It appears that the vocalist has tried to bring in the unpredictability like in Hindustani vocalists without disrupting the laya structure of Karnatik. Best of Luck to the vocalist Pundit ,& accompanying artists. Late Pt BMK use to take the accompanying artists for a ride with his unpredictable singing which used to appear100% shashtreeya. That's correct. It's called Carnatic music. A quick way to identify if it is Hindustani (Indian classical music practiced in the North & Central India) or Carnatic, just by looking at the artists on stage is to see what instruments the accompanying artists are playing. If it is violin and mridangam (horizontal drum), then it is Carnatic music. If they are accompanying with a Harmonium & Tabla (pair of drums), it will most likely be Hindustani music.

AKKARAI Subbalakshmi reminds me of the sublime violin of Lalgudi,TNK and MSG .Her smiles and stage presence are great and her invovolvement is so spiritual. The Carnatic world will be hard pressed to search for an Award bigger than Sangitha Kalanidhi for her.TMK is not at his best in the ragamTalam pallavi. That is not his forte I guess.
