I think it's really brave for you to come out publicly about your forbidden love , hope your parents don't take it too badly. Sat on the Honda x adv recently but don't dare test ride one so I'll stay in the closet for now. Definitely getting one of them blanket thingys for my Tuono though.

I was touring through Wales on my z1000sx last year, was pushing on pretty well and came up behind a honda adv scooter, when he seen me in his mirror he decided to have a play with me, and, I'll own up here, he pulled a gap on me and there was nothing I could do about it, the way he was riding I could see he wasn't even trying and he had even more pace if needed. I was giving my all to stay with the guy. Respect to him and respect to scooters lol

Few of us were at snetterton last summer and there was a dude on an Aprillia scooter (no idea which one, looked old) - he was sending it hard, passing everyone. Not ashamed to say he did me on my gixxer 1000 either, bloke was a legend.

RE THE LOST KEY CODE: according to an article I found (dated Nov 2023, so should still be relevant), the 6 digit PIN code is written on the chip inside the key fob. Not sure what's involved in opening the key fob plastics to get to the chip, but this might be worth exploring.

I'm in Australia and there are plenty of delivery small scooters, but I've had my 2015 Forza 300 for 7 years now and it's an amazing machine. But here we have the same problem, people don't think it's a real bike. They really just need to try them. Mine does the motorway at well over the speed limit, plenty of storage and I have the top box when required. It's just a great, practical and fun machine.

Keep these vids going please - great watching. If you ride and talk about 2 wheels you get respect! - Winter corrosion - I replace all fastenings with 316 stainless steel (A4-80) from Westfield Fasterners. No corrosion or deterioration. Some say this may set up a galvanic cell with a steel / aluminum frame but I have never experienced this. Allows winter riding with no deterioration of cheep stock coated carbon steel fasteners. - Insurance - Why is it possible to get £3,300 and £450 quotes for the same rider, same machine and same area? Someone should do something about the insurance racket! (rant over).

After years of bikes issues with my left hand/foot forced a re appraisal.Long rides on the twisties hurt and as I knew you were a fan decided to take a look at a T Max. a test ride on an old one convinced me that it was the way to go. Found a really nice 2012 low mileage 500 and I love it and so does my partner who lost interest in bikes but bought new kit and loves getting out on the T Max.

Never had a maxi scooter till I got an '09 xmax 250 which I absolutely loved, for all the reasons you mentioned. Don't have deep pockets, got a lot out of that scooter with very little in it, was saving for something better while that got me through a few years, I had a bigger budget and a short, variable list of machines, only room for one machine, got a bmw f750gs with all the bells and whistles and a topbox (it was simply the bargain that came up first) which I love (used often like a scooter!) but when the belt has to be tightened a bit more I'll end up on an adv 350!, anyway I can understand why you love the Tmax, makes perfect sense to me!

Hi Michael, I’ve been wondering how you’ve been getting on with the MIGHTY MAX especially as you’ve no car. It’s great to hear everything’s going well 👍 I was quite excited when I got a notification from your channel, especially when it’s TMax related 😉🛵 I can’t wait to get out on mine when the weather improves! Good info about the pillion comfort, my wife usually comes out on the back. I had to modify the rear foot pegs as she has long legs and she didn’t find it overly comfortable so I fitted a pillion peg lowering kit which isn’t specific to Yamaha. Just waiting on a few tricky bits to land which will probably make the bike more stealable. Keep up the scooter content as we look forward to it. I have to say it’s such a refreshing change to the usual bike content. Stay safe & enjoy 😉🛵🏁

Mine got nearly stolen from Pyrmont, Sydney .. The main gate saved it that needed a swipe to leave the apartment building. Still 750$ damage, steering lock, ignition, top triple, KO.. So yeah don't worry, if it's a nice bike it can still be stolen in Sydney. Later down the track my MTB got actually stolen.. Just be aware, but of course it's not as bad as in The UK...

Michael, I purchased my Tech Max new back in 2022 and like you I use it for my supermarket run but as we have a car I have not succumbed to a top box thus far ! Given you can cast your mobile phone to the TFT screen I just wish Yamaha would provide a software update that would enable Apple CarPlay and Android Auto rather than have to pay for Garmin Motorize. I can also confirm that if you ride a scooter 99% of motorcyclists completely ignore you which I regard as a bonus. We lived in the South of France for ten years and I had a T Max there and the same rule applied. The service manual (page 437 and 438) seems to imply you can add additional smart keys ( up to six) by using the “ Smart Key System Emergency Mode” . Keep the videos coming and hopefully you can resolve the spare key issue.

I’ve done almost 12000 miles from new in 23. It’s my go to machine for any ride. Took it over the Picos d Europa and down through Portugal to Gibraltar and back up through central Spain. If I need to pare down my garage, the TMax will be the keeper.

Love the the in depth review of the Tmax! Really wish we had them here in the United States. I replaced my 1st gen Tmax with a Kymco AK550 and couldn't be happier. Just a small correction - the AK does have an aluminum frame like the Yamaha yet I do agree this maxi was let down by some of the odd dash aesthetics. Keep the ride reports coming on the Tmax!

Thanks for your content, really enjoy your work. I am a scooter convert too. I sold a Multistrada for an ADV 350 in 2022 for practical work reasons - and I have so much fun on it, it's outrageous! I live in London so insurance is simply wanker tax. I don't know how you get 100mpg from the 350 Honda engine, I average 72. But then that might be how I ride it? I also have a Termoscud blanket for mine. They're brilliant but I've found you can't wear lined trousers with it, you cook...! One or the other, not both. I have bought a KTM 1190 Adventure since I bought the ADV, but I rarely ride it because the Honda is exactly what I need for what I do. And yes, supermarket runs are fun. I have a Givi top box and the 2 helmet sized underseat storage so I can get loads on the bike. Only issue, my OH also likes to ride it. She knows I love it, and I always tell her that I worry more about her than the bike, but she knows I'm lying🤣 Keep up the good work. 👍🏽

Back in the mid- late-naughties I owned a Honda SilverWing 600. I live on the South Coast of NSW (Australia) and used the scooter for local riding AND touring. I've covered the bottom 2/3 of NSW (from Dubbo/Newcastle) south and most of Victoria (from Echuca/Warrnambool to the east including the Victorian high country). I could put everything I needed for 5/6 days in the "boot" under the seat. Note: I don't camp but stay in old country pubs where ever I could. I've ridden it in all sorts of weather, in pouring rain on a freeway I remained quite dry even without water proofs. It was a great bike. Friends had BMW RT's and GS's and I toured much further and much more often than them. Later I exchanged a Kawasaki VN900 for a Honda Forza 300! What was I thinking? I know you spoke well of the Forza but for riding outside the city in Australia it really is not a good choice. I always fancied a TMax but they are just too expensive here in Australia. If I was in the market for a new scooter today either of the Honda 750's looks very good or maybe (probably) the Honda NX750. Lastly, maxi scooters SHOULD be taken seriously! Particularly if you do one-up touring. Thanks for a great video, Peter

'Real bikers' look down their noses at scooters until about 20 seconds after riding one. At which point they git giddy eyed and go out and buy one. I often chat to bikers about mine, some can be pretty dismissive, I then role off a little of my biking 'history' (and other current bikes) and remark that it (forza 300) is about the most fun bike ive ever ridden.Ive thought about trading up to a bigger one like yours or adv/forza 750 but it kinda then misses the point. And more to the point I probably wouldnt ride the others at all. Thanks Michael, a great pleasure listening to your thoughts once again.

Congrats on the scooter! Thank you for coming out against all the scooter hate! LOL. Until recently I owned a 2019 BMW c400x (a scooter), a 2020 BMW S1000XR, a 2023 Triumph Bobber, and a 2012 Triumph Street Triple. I rode the c400x more than the other three bikes. The Street Triple is getting old, you can't haul groceries on a Bobber, and I was always worried I'd get arrested on the XR, because it just makes you want to misbehave and ride 30 mph over the speed limit. I sold the XR and the c400x a couple months ago and bought a 2023 BMW CE04 (electric scooter)--the range isn't great, but I don't leave the city with it and I can charge it in the garage in a couple hours, or stop for a coffee while it charges on a public charger. Now, I'm looking to sell the Bobber and buy a Multistrada V4 S or a 1300GSA for longer distance stints. However, I know I'll still be riding the scooter 75% of the time, even with the adventure bike in the garage, because it just feels easier to run errands on.

Hi Michael, Thanks for the video. I’m happy to hear all of that from you as a journalist I trust. It’s a pity that people look down on the TMAX. Around the city, it might even be more comfortable and agile than a GS. I’ve owned a number of bikes, ranging from smaller to larger engine capacities, with plenty of power. Once I tried the Burgman and TMAX, I fell in love with those bikes. The TMAX really feels more like a motorcycle. To be honest, if I needed a bike for commuting and occasional travel, I’d seriously consider the TMAX or the X-ADV as an all-in-one solution. They might not look fancy to “real bikers,” but the comfort and tech are hard to beat. Honestly, I don’t think motorcycles are even necessary in town. As for the price-yes, it does seem pricey at first. But if you look at the TMAX as a motorcycle and compare it to anything else on the market, the closest bikes in terms of tech, features, and other characteristics (excluding performance and power) are over £15k. So it’s actually within the price range-just a different concept. I think riders need to be open-minded about that. Thanks again, and I hope you can create more content about top-tier maxi scooters! Cheers!

I agree with your comments about bikers looking down on maxi scooters. As a daily rider and commuter (HD Lowrider ST; completing 1000 miles a month + in all weathers) I do notice the lack of other riders on my daily runs, living in S Wales where roads are fantastic for riding, I also note loads of weekend riders, especially on sunny days. This suggests to me that (most) people use their bike as a leisure vehicle, rather than daily transport. TMAX will be my next bike. Obviously once I can get my own ego in check lol.

Great review Michael. You're one of the few motorcycle reviewers who appreciate scooters verses motorcycles. Firstly, I agree that the Honda 350, (330cc) scooters are probably the best option for most people. The Forza and ADV have better underseat storage than the SH. The SH is a genuine step-thru scooter, with bag hook. It can carry a shopping bag full of groceries home, with extra beneath the seat. Weight: This may not concern a younger rider. The Forza 750 is 235kg. The TMax is 221kg. The Honda 330cc scooters range between 174 and 186kg. I would be interested to learn about the CVT drive belt on the TMax. It appears to be external, whereas most scooters have the drive belt fully enclosed. Does the external belt pick-up road debris, which gets into the transmission?

As a current Honda ADV350 rider...I wish I got 100mpg! More like 70-80mpg from winter to summer. The under-seat storage space is unbeaten though in the scooter world though, my XL helmet drops in no problem and I can fit my jacket or a rucksack under there too. With my top box I can carry over 100L of stuff!

Such a cool bike. I think the stigma around "sccoters" is the fact that they were/are generally used by people riding only on their CBT - meaning the majority of riders of them haven't done a bike test or ridden anything larger than a 125cc etc, so then they are considered, "Not bikers" - at least that's my impression. However if you're on two wheels, regardless of motor or experience you are a biker to me. We need to drop all the shite really and just be more open minded and welcoming.. not just in biking, but generally. Another cracking vid Michael. Thanks for the in depth look into it. If I didn't have to drive the kiddo around i'd also have a scooter. The Honda X-ADV looks super fun to me.

Brilliant video, informative and truthful.. I am now a pensioner, riding all types of bikes but never a scooter.. But I have briefly ridden a 350 Honda and a burg an 400..I must admit it was brilliant.. Still haven't got one yet but I'm now considering one in the future.. Why? Getting older, dodgy hips, arthritis is making me having more difficulty getting on and off my bike.. I do love the look at the Tmax, but unfortunately a bit big for me.. I have noticed more bikers now buying scooters in my age group. So I think it may be a growing market as bikers like me will either have to move over to scooters, or give up riding.. Look forward to your update in a few months time..

I've never owned a T-Max but do remember seeing my first one back in the early 2000's, and thought it looked cool for a scooter! It smoked me at the traffic light grand prix up to about 45mph whilst i was riding my FZS600. I've owner 3 different scooters, one SYM Maxim600i which was a fantastic bike with a similar presence to a Burgman and had plenty of space under the seat, enough for two helmets, I also had a large Givi topbox 46L I believe so it had great touring potential. I had an unfortunate encounter on the road with a deer which totally wiped out the front end and left side panels on the bike, I was pretty much scratch free though! I claimed on my insurance as I had full comp at the time, but boy did the panels and headlights take forever to come in from the importer, some 4 or 5 months later! (pre C19 too!), so that was the last time I told myself that's I'd ever purchase a scooter from outside of the big four manufacturers. Next up was a Honda Forza 300, which was lovely, nice and light, great storage under the seat, good fuel economy and an electric screen! I wish I still had one now! My last scooter was the Forza 750 and another great bike handling wise! The engine had plenty of grunt for a 750 and after a while of running DCT on auto I switched to manual paddle shifting and it was a lot better to ride, otherwise the bike would change gear at the wrong time which was quite annoying to me. The bad points of the 750 were no heated grips or electric screen, which for a bike costing just over 10k at the time is a massive oversight by Honda, oh plus chain drive!!! Yes, I knew all this before I purchased of course, but with hindsight I shouldn't have switched from my 300 Forza. Oh, one final thing on the Forza 750, In the video you said it had motorcycle sized wheels, well that's half true, I believe the front is a 17 inch and the rear 15 inch, looks weird from a side angle of course but rode fine really apart from if you were on gravel or dusty areas of the road where it would make me think if it was gonna slip out a little while banked over. Sorry for the long post! Keep us posted on the T-Max though! Scooter rule when you're older!

I used to use a Suzuki Burg something 400? I cannot remember the exact name as the bike was so damaged all the branded had come off. I got it for free crashed off of a neighbour and I commuted with it for years and loved it as it's just nice having a bike/scooter you do not need to care about. I'd just leave it unchained all the time and no one was ever interested in taking it. Though the dash had all rotted away and the key didn't work, so you had to do some weird stuff with the wires to get it to run lol. Sadly the garage wouldn't MOT it anymore so it had to go as I didn't want to spend any money on it, but I sold it for a few hundred and bought a £700 GPZ 500. I have to say back in 2010 the GPZ 500 was the best bang for your buck! I went right across the world on that thing where I'd keep seeing GS owners stopping and turning around when anything off road came about lmao. Though for whatever reason the GPZ500 had THE worst front suspension that was like a bouncy castle and I crashed about 20 times bouncing around corners as it just just traction :/ I ended up with several of them and all half taken apart as I stripped them down for parts lol. Guy came and bought the lot off of me and said he's the same and he has several of them too.

Key, the question becomes, can it be updated, or is it hard coded (based on an internal chip or something). Yamaha should know.

I can't believe your insurance, just renewed my TMax for second time with Hastings and paying half what you said with just 2 years no claims. I'm in South West so maybe that is the difference. The heated grips could definitely be warmer, feels like there should be a 4th setting. The seat though is super warm, settling 2 enough otherwise i get cooked lol. Keep enjoying it, great machine 👍👍

I can see the attraction as 66 years old here and with over half a century riding/racing, past Christmas 2024 I sold my 2012 R1 and bought a black/graphite scheme MT-03 and I'm laughing every ride. Cost was AU$8,349.00 rideaway new (2025 UK Quid 4,194.91) Beautifully smooth and Yamaha's Indonesian factory impresses me overall. I've never felt so relaxed on public roads since I was 17 a long time ago. Australia here by the way! Enjoy!!!!

I am looking forward to Greece this summer and hiring a 600 scooter, I would love one for buzzing about. There is no comparison to public transport Mr. Neevesy. Used train tickets are worthless, the scooter will depreciate but still worth something, as my old mate always used to point out. The rack looks well handy it would become a third seat for village pub visits in the summer. 2 pints of Scrumpy and both my kids on the back going home,

Brilliant bikes, i had a 530 but now have an Aprilia SRV850, another level of performance but tmax is better handling, maybe the new 750 will up the game. 100% convert here, wish i'd done it sooner 🤣

Not a hundred % sure, but I think some of the rift between bikes and scooters, harps back to the mods and rockers . Knocking nine bells out of each other lol. Now just bike snobs I think. Just look at the fuss over the Yamaha Niken 🙄. I nod and wave at all, if it don't get a response,so what. Had a stint away from bikes and on returning, I was looking to get a scooter and had folk who didn't even ride, trying to convince me not too, oddly. Ended up buying a 44 yr old air head, no mot or road tax, "Stuck Farmer" and loving it. Enjoy your videos neevsey 👍

Thanks for doing the videos- look forward to them each week. Glad you're enjoying your scooter. Was wondering whether you considered the honda nc 750. I know it's a bike and probably not as nimble as a scooter but does come with DCT or manual, has storage in the frunk, very fuel efficient and insurance probably lower? With a top box storage nearly as good as your scooter and touring capability maybe better. Different vibe than a scooter tho! Can't wait for next video. Cheers Cam

As someone who commutes in freezing temps for about decade now, the least useful things I could think of are heated seat and that scooter skirt... Not mentioning the hand muffs, LOL. I simply switch to winter gloves, winter balaclava, plus the usual, 2-layered touring gear. Never ever felt that my bottom or my legs need heating.

I was never interested in motorcycles but always fancied a Vespa 300. Eventually got a brand new Vespa after having to take a full motorcycle test due to the power of it. Kept the Vespa for about 12 months and now have a Honda adv350 which I think is great, although not as cool looking as the Vespa! Now wondering about a brand new Tmax or have the adv350 and another Vespa, decisions decisions!

don't know if you'd be willing to make a trip down to london for it but there's a guy on youtube that i love to watch that does locksmithing and key fob copying called access denied car keys, he seems to have every single key fob under the sun and a crazy hacky device to recode them all. he charges way less than dealerships too. might try giving him a shout!

You can do serious distance on a scooter. I went down to Lands End and back on a Honda Supercub C125 in winter a couple of years ago. It was uncomfortable but doable. I bet doing that on your T-Max would have been wonderful.

Awesome video! The thing is with scooters , they are so approachable and easy. Would I take my GS to the market? Probably not. I don't think the Tmax is available in the States. I am looking for a scooter because it would be fun. BTW it looks like the skid has moved out of under the seat. Hopefully we will see the Skid soon. Best!

I bought mine from Tamworth brand new and within 10 miles of the dealership, 4 guys on two scooters tried to get me to pull over because there was “wire on my back wheel”. I realised instantly they were going to take the max, I took off ( running in) and they followed, stopped at a red light I watched them like a hawk pulling in front of a stopped car. Eventually I opened her up and got onto the M42 and left them.

Terrible story. It's good that the TMax had the power to get away. I don't ride without my forward/rear helmet camera switched on. This is invaluable evidence to the Police, and Insurance Companies, should the worst happen. I hope you also told your dealer about this.

Thank you, There is another negative to both the muffs and the blanket... they destroy the smart looks of the TMAX... I simply use my motorcycle gear on my Aprilia. This brings the added benefit of having protectors in it. Most of my commuting is done on the Aprilia. I also do a bit of long distance travel on it, it shares the drive train with the Piaggio MP3 500, power is really sufficient when you stay within the legal limits. I mainly use it long distance because it is so easy to clean. Much simpler than my 'proper' bikes. The drive train is fully enclosed, which makes cleaning and maintaining a breeze. Yet I still have my car. Do you use your TMAX on real slippery roads? Like snow and/or black ice. For me that is the reason I still have my car (and... I love cars). Oh... I also have a top box. When I ride the Aprilia for fun, I leave it at home. It is so f.... ugly! And I am old enough not to worry too much about looks 😊

I enjoy riding my scooter at least as much as my bikes. This is the 9th winter on the Honda Forza and it is covered in salt but only gets a wash and wipe over with WD40 every month or two. Still comes up like nearly new.😂

I purchased an Xmax300 about3 weeks ago for commuting following your comments on scooters. P/ex a Tracer 7 for it. I still have a ‘proper’ bike for the summer but for commuting it is so easy. I was one of those bikers that looked down on scooter riders and now I know I’m being looked down at but don’t give a monkeys.

This debate about scooters are looked down, it's just the same as people used to say about automatic and hybrid cars, not a proper riding/driving experience yet, most people use these vehicles for commute and there is no better vehicle than a maxi scooter or a hybrid car. For the occasional weekend blast, a nice naked superbike or a manual sports car, but for everyday comfort and frugality...😊

I've been wanting a new Jawa 350 twin 2 stroke classic for years and yes they still import them to the UK in 2025 but the Honda 350 single auto scooter out prices and out performs it easily and I really need an automatic for health reasons so now I'm nearly a convert to scooters.

I would add the BMW 400GT to your list of alternatives. More power than the 350 Forza, nicer ride, more toys. Pricier than the Honda but an update means the 24 models are being discounted at present.

Regarding the spare fob key, I bought a new one from the Yamaha dealer in Malta, and had no problems with them to code the new fob key with my 2019 Tmax. They should have the software to do it. Also for your old fob key code, when you remove the key from the fob you have the code printed in the actual fob key. It’s a white sticker with black numbers. Hope this helps 😊

I am pretty sure the service intervals are not every 3000 miles... first is at 600 miles then 6000 - 12000 - 18000 etc. So 6000 miles intervals or annually.

You'll be interested to know that down here in Melbourne you can pick up a 2020 560 T-Max with 8,000kms on the clock for about $13,000. That comes out at around £6,500. So a bloody bargain I reckon.
