I felt this video so much. I was a swimmer for my whole life and I had to quit last year. Was I particularly good? Not really, but my whole identity was that I was a swimmer. I developed a rare medical condition (its not life threatening at all, but its chronic) and that stopped me from swimming. I broke down mentally and broke my femur later in the year while skiing (unrelated). I began watching your tiktoks and youtube videos after that and you have inspired me so much and are one of the main reasons I love myself, my surgery scars, and all my imperfections. I love you so much!

Girl we may love the volleyball Victoria Garrick, but we also LOVE the PERSON Victoria Garrick. With or without volleyball. U don't have to be worried abt the content on this channel, bc the people watching it are coming for YOU. I definitely can relate to the feelings you described by not having a perfect “friend group” ! I have experienced several occasions at different events where I struggled so hard to fit into a group of girls and even tried to get pictures with them for Instagram or Twitter. Without having their insta feed in my face of all the parties and hangouts I wasn’t invited to I am not realizing that I am so beyond happy without having that. Also I loved this video, it’s my favorite ;) Keep being real, and don’t mind those who misunderstand us 💛

I’ve also def struggled during the lockdown but for a different reason. I’ve always been really introverted. I still have friends, super fun friend groups, etc. But I really identified with being an introvert and was proud of those qualities. But since lockdown started, my loneliness has been completely overwhelming. My mental health has plummeted, right when I felt like I was making real progress. I didn’t realize or want to admit how much I need other people but I definitely do. And it honestly seems like there’s no end in sight, and things just keep getting worse. But thank you for being real, especially about mental health.
@victoriagarrickbrowne4 жыл бұрын
Ahh sorry to hear that things feel worse, but on the bright side you learned something really powerful about yourself, that you are not as introverted as you might have thought! While it's tough to be lonely these days, that is something special to look forward to... plus the ways you are going to grow now that you realize that

I totally relate to your friends comment. I've had one "ride or die" friend since 4th grade. And I've made other friends throughout my life, but none have stuck with me like my one best friend. I used to feel bad about myself because I didn't make a big group of friends in college, but I've realized that I would rather have one friend that I can rely on than have a bunch of friends that I'm not super close with.
@moribuntarou20584 жыл бұрын
Hey, hm, I know I'm late, I got here from the Haikyuu reactions, tbh, and I actually liked the overall channel so much, that I wanted to share a bit of my personal thoughts, on something slightly deep. People have layers. And social media in general allows you to get inside some of those layers from other people's lives. So the people like Victoria, here, have oppened up quite several very intimate layers of her life, and that private contact feels so real and wholesome, that it is simply amazing. But, at the same time, it's super important that she also comes out into saying, it pulls a strain on me. On who I am, bcs I'm showing something, and I want what I show, to be true to what I am. And that is admirable, but it also makes the content a lot harder to make, it's a toll on anyone's mental health. So I wanted to tell you, personally, Victoria, numbers are not equal to value, and and what you are doing with the mental health aspect of ppl related to sports, is extremely valuable and extremely true, so, as long as it keeps making you happy, you don't need to humble yourself so much, I, personally, am IN for these types of drills. And it makes me learn a lot.

I was always conscious that I have a small group of friends, like you, and that it was ok for me to be like that, cause they’re few but I truly care a lot about them. So one thing I did realize during quarantine is that I’m always reaching out to them, asking if they’re ok, etc etc, and some people don’t do that back. I was kind of hurt at first, but it made me realize who was really there for me, like for real, and that my true friend group is even smaller than i thought LOL but that’s ok too!!

She is definitely my favorite youtuber to watch because she is the only one that seems like an actual person that I would truly enjoy talking to. 3:00 🥺 awe Vic, you are so amazing and I started watching you at the beginning of quarantine back in March, and I literally fell in love with your channel, not only bc of your vb tips, but your positivity and what an influence you have made in my life, I don’t have enough words to describe how amazed I am of you and all that you’ve shared with us, you’re absolutely amazing and thank you for everything, I enjoy watching your videos, they’re the best!!!! Such an inspiration ❤️ also yes, 8:35 I feel like that’s what all content should be about, what makes you happy, and what you enjoy, and not about the likes and views (I mean easier said than done) but I feel like that’s how it should be, bc then posting/uploading things will make you feel/ think to yourself, “why did I start this in the first place” and it just won’t be good for your mental/emotional health. (I know I’ve said a lot but...) 14:16 I feel like quarantine has helped me realize what friends I am close too, and in the words of one of my cousin’s “who your real friends are” I feel like bc of quarantine it helped me realize what’s important, and what/who I shouldn’t take for granted

I just wanted to say that you should do what makes you happy, do what you want and enjoy it, as you said there will be someone that doesn’t like it, but know that at least I will be watching your video, your Instagram story, I will like your post... I will buy your merch... 😍 I am excited about that. I can relate with everything that you said, I think during quarantine I was able to know who are really my friends, I learned (thanks to you) that I need to listen to my body and that I work out for myself, not for others. // i listen to folklore every single day, it’s sooo good, I love TLGAD and betty 🤩 // I really want to say thank you, Vic, just go for it ❤️ //// PD. Dope video Victoria! Yes it’s true athletes after their sport is done they feel like they have a “what am I going to do next” it was like that for me after both sports I played we’re done and going to a community college and not knowing what I’ll do on my “free time” eventually the sports come around and found me again through coaching. Eventually one way or another the sport finds its way even if someone doesn’t try to do it. What thing about quarantine is that coaching has been part of me and most of my “me time” is coaching my high school kids. It’s my inner peace and my going away from an issues or stress.

ahhh love this, I think I eventually want to coach too. Not till later in my life but I can see how it's special to work with the next generation of players. Glad to har you love it!

Victoria Garrick well I’m not doing it for long until I get accepted to medical school and become an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine. I want to be able to help my community medically in sport injuries type of way. So a couple years left if you want I can offer you my volleyball job after lol. Yes I do love it it’s good for the next generation cause you show them the way and especially when you add the mental side to keep them mentally healthy can help athletes enjoy the sport better and the sport they fell in love with.

I found your volleyball videos somehow through the rabbit hole of youtube my senior year of college, and while I may not watch the recent videos about how to serve or anything I love when you post videos that touch on mental health/sports. I had an awful sports experience throughout college on my team (was frequently excluded from workouts/meetings/events) but it was my whole identity and everything I loved at the same time which made things worse for me mentally. It's hard to put into words but the impact you have with your videos means a lot to me and its inspirational. You've done a lot for mental health/athletes through your videos and Ted Talk and I want to work my way to a point where I can also have that positive impact on others. I'm still struggling dealing with being done with my sport but hopefully I can get a better handle on that

I’m going to be honest, when I started to watch your channel it was because of volleyball. I loved those videos but I feel more interested in these types of videos because I can relate to you with the friend group thing. That was always so big for me because I had friends that would just stop reaching out to me after quarantine happened. Then I really realized who my true friends were thanks to you! You have helped me a lot! So to be clear I would much rather you do vids that you love because it makes it much more enjoyable to watch knowing that you wanted to do that video. Love you! And I will always be here for you!❤️❤️❤️

Thanks for being brave and posting this kind of stuff. I live for this vulnerable, raw content. In my opinion, it’s more relatable and helpful then volleyball stuff, and I say that as an ex college-volleyball player too :)

Vic! I would like to say that I never followed you because you were a volleyball player but because you talked about body image and your relationship you have had with food in the past and how you recovered! And I love you for that because truly, thanks to you I bought a book (How to overcome emotional eating idk) and my relationship with food and myself is getting better! So yeah, I'm glad people want to see your volleyball videos and heck yes, keep doing that for them but I really really enjoy your content related with whatever you want to come up with! Once again, thank you for being so so inspiring to me, I have no words to describe how grateful I am to have found you here Vic!

AAHH AND yes! I can relate 100% about the friend group situation. I came to the terms that I do not need a group of friends in order to feel "secure" "fulfilled" etc, but just the few ones I have around the world who do not know each other but make me feel safe and I know I can go back to them whenever I need

I'm 5'5'' and I am a defense player at heart. I played football trought High school as a defensive player and failed my tryout when I got to college. It was a HUGE down in moral after that. A year later I started volleyball out of coicidence(Haikyuu gang ahah) and I LOVE IT. I'm a really competitive person so I immediatly wanted to get better, cause I SUCKED at the game at first (really bad). I practice alone and/or with friends about 10-15h a week the whole summer and now I'm in a semi-competitive league in my home town. I want to get better and try to get into a "real" competitive team next year so I still practice a lot to improve. Your videos changed everything, I love watching them I they helped me to learn a lot specailly the libero drills one. I love your content (not just the volleyball your personality is awsome). Whitout your videos and the hype I got from them to play volleyball I don't know if I would've played this much and the ability to play sports again helped a lot in my life. Thank you Victoria

You know I agree that in this time I don’t have the desire or need for another group of friends. If anything this crazy time has taught me how I can stay connected to my friends that are not in the same city. Fav Folklore songs. The 1, Cardigan, Exile, Seven, August, This is me Trying, Invisible String, Mad Woman. BUT I love the whole album.

well for that second life changer, it kind of opened my eyes and caused me to really think about my never ending desire to have a group of friends that have an aesthetic and do everything together and trust each other with their lives. i came to the conclusion that maybe i still want that because even throughout quarantine i still saw everyone hanging out and having fun and being with their set group of friends and i don’t have that. i have a friend who wants to be my bestfriend but i’ve grown out of. a bestfriend that has other bestfriends that are the main priority. then my other really close friends and out of these 4, none of us hang out in a group and they don’t talk with each other and it’s just like they all have one trait in them that would add up to my be my ideal bestfriend. i still crave and want that one person that’s my everything and has everything, but i’m starting to realize that i’m setting my standards too high and closing myself off. i need to be putting more time and effort into the relationships of those who care about me and love me enough to be there for me and that number 2 life changing revelation for you, might be a really good start to mine. I might just start being honest to the friend i’ve grown out of about how i feel and the bestfriend who i prioritize, but don’t want to burden w plans because they have other friends about how i feel, then go from there. building healthier, stronger, and better relationships bit by bit. (i just realized how much i wrote out and ranted here, sorry💀)

It's so strange because I've always been known for trampolining and now I'm so confused by my identity. And the friends thing, you are literally me. I have friends from all different aspects of my life but most of them don't even know eachother and I actually have realised how much I love that since they're all sooo different!
