Hi John. I'm a pin guy so here is my advice on LED mod for your Ecto-1. You can purchase leds that flash on their own when power is sent to them. They even have changing color leds if you like. Most LED pin mods you just use wires, hide them down the nearest hole and alligator clip them to the GI light that under the play field. That way if you ever sell your pin or need to quickly remove it, you can. Some people hook them up to the flasher so it only goes off when certain events happen.

Another great video John. I have to say that I live my nostalgic arcade life watching your videos. Ever since I was a preteen in the mid 80's my grandmother would drive me to a number of different arcades in our area... different strip malls and plaza's and such. I lived my weekends at many arcades and after school (teen years) with my friends playing the NES and SNES. I spent all of my allowance money to play Qbert, Pacman, Excitebike, Tron, Star Wars. I am now a dad, my son is 6 and I bring him to the arcades (whats left of them when I can) Your pure enthusiasm, knowledge and positive energy truly inspire me to learn to restore one myself. I may never acquire the knowledge and skill that you have restoring great cabinets and games, and thats ok. But watching you bring a game "back from the dead" seriously brings me so much joy, its hard to put into words. I am priveledged and honored to be able to watch these videos and hopefully one day my son can watch (and understand) them too. Perhaps he may restore a cabinet.... something I could never accomplish. THANK YOU!! *Hand shake* Tom, NY

John When checking your fuses, lift one end out of the clip. Just checking them in the fuse clip is not 100% reliable, there is a possibility the resistance of the circuit the fuse is in will be low enough to make your meter beep. Great videos, I watch every week.

Would you ever consider doing a Multi PCB Cabinet in this High Impact? I went to a arcade parts store locally the other day and they had a converted Turtles cabinet (Along with Firefox, Dragons Lair, and what he said was Steve Smith's personal Journey) he was going to restore. I asked him what he was going to do with the Turtles and he said he was considering making it a Multi Superhero cabinet, with TMNT, TMNT2, Spider-Man and X-Men 4P . Good idea?

High Impact is a classic. The sequel/update Super High Impact is a bit better but you can't go wrong with the original. This was Ed Boons first video game. Eugene Jarvis worked on it. Dan Forden ("Toasty!" from Mortal Kombat) did the sound. The announcer is non other than Steve Ritchie (same voice he used for the announcer in the Rollergames pinball). It's a nice compliment to your new Mortal Kombat cabinet.

Hi John, your videos have been such a brilliant resource over the years. I’ve learned so much from watching you fix, restore and troubleshoot. Like you I had always wanted a Konami 4 player in my collection, but living in the U.K. made it very hard to find one. I did recently manage to import a completely beaten up (empty) 4 player Konami cab. It was in a very sorry state, especially the control panel. In short I’m part way through turning it in to a Turtles. Like yours this is also a single speaker cab which coincidently was also originally a Crime Fighters, which was then hacked into a Konami Fishing game! It was missing everything by the time I got it. I’m just wondering was there ever a Part 2 to this video series or even any pictures of how your restore turned out? Thanks again for all that you have done to help others in this hobby/madness 😊

oh you did get the [name redacted] cabinet! :P and agreed on the 'taking photos' tip -- I had a USB joystick I had to replace a microswitch on, and luckily I had a photo of the microswitch when it was still connected so I could remember which wire went where. (and the joystick thing did kinda happen to me too I forgot where the switches went so I had them set wrong, lol so I just had to have the stick open while I swapped them around, LOL) Also, I assume 'EJB' is Ed Boon and 'MJT' is Mark Turmell, right? anyway so far so good! can't wait to see the next update on TMNT!

I work at a headshop and I convinced my boss to get a pinball machine. He bought an Elvira pinball but ended up having too many problems for a retail setting so he took it home and we now have a brand new Walking Dead pinball machine. The game is so intense and play MUCH more smoothly than Elvira did. Elvira was about $4000 and Walking Dead was about $5500.

If you decide to keep the High Impact Football PCB, see if it is a quick ROM swap to Super High Impact Football as I tend to like that version better then the original and it just came out a year later so it's like to use the same PCB. Looking forward to seeing more of the turtles restore though.

Hey John I have a MAME emulator on my Dad's Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and I have Bucky O'hare and NBA Jam TE. Bucky O'hare is like the Ninja Turtles the graphics are amazing and the sound is good. And NBA Jam TE is a add on for the original NBA Jam. Konami did a Bucky O'hare NES game but it is different from the arcade. That High Impact Football you got there can be use for another cabinet. I did not even Know that Williams made a football arcade game that looks like a NFL Blitz clone.

Could still be playing blind. If the sound is dead, there's no way to tell. Might be worthwhile getting a Gonbes board and an cheap old VGA monitor to rig up a portable test monitor. Not just for this specific game, but for any time you've got a suspect monitor. In the meantime, the obvious test would be to see if you can get Power Drift to display on the K7000 next door.

It's interesting to logically narrow a fault down and more rewarding to know you used your own knowledge to systematically run down the problem rather that just shot gunning everything, There's more to gain there in the long run. I would bet my last dollar that it was the bad solder joints on the fly back anyway, since the problem showed up after the game warmed up a bit.

john, thx for the upload, look forward to watching it later this evening. I'm curious, how many GB of footage do you shoot in an average weekend? From the camera, before editing. It must be stupendous, what with 60fps and so many hours of recording. Appreciate all the hard work. just thought I'd mention that power drift was a big success in weymouth uk. there was a sit-down version that had pride of place in the middle of the arcade and the whole seat was articulated and move up and down on hydraulics. my mate was pretty good at it.

John, I have a Dynamo arcade and it's a 25' and I have a question about the monitor. Since it's a CRT does that monitor support VGA hookup? I've seen a few Wells Gardner 25' monitor that has VGA in it and do all Wells Gardner has that or no? The reason why i'm asking is because i'm using a Pandora's Box 4s+ and it has VGA to hook it up but i'm just using the regular jamma and I think the picture isn't sharp enough and the color is green yellow and it's not bright colors.
@Johnsarcade
@Johnsarcade 6 жыл бұрын
some of the later models might have a VGA hook-up but in general most do not, they are CGA. There are converters out there but I have never tried.
@FrostyMikeGaming
@FrostyMikeGaming 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I don't know if mine has VGA in it and I just bought that dynamo cabinet this week so I can test this Pandora's box out but I notice the color was kinda dual like not being to bright so I don't know if that's the way it suppose to be. I just notice i see green and yellow tint in the games and I know the picture is set perfectly but I haven't mess with the colors yet. Now for the adapter to VGA that your talking about I will have to give that a try and see if that works. Thanks for the feedback help. :)

If you could only have one or two cabinets.. Why not pad hack a couple of Dreamcast controlelrs (take a 3rd party with all digital buttons because the analog triggers are tricky). So you can have a Dreamcast cabinet. Since Sega made their arcade hardware the same as their dreamcast hardware (except the Dreamcast had less RAM). So if you like the Sega Noami games, make a dreamcast arcade cabinet. So you can have one cabinet and still have several games in actual hardware..

John's Arcade Game Reviews & Tech oh ok didn't hurt to ask. I haven't bought a video cabinet yet. That will probably be my next purchase. I'm searching Craigslist daily.

Ah, John, I was hoping you'd bought that bootleg Pong game instead. Disappointed, although Power Drift is a cool game as well.

I saw the unlisted teaser on twitter so I knew he didn't but I'm keeping my fingers crossed he will go back to the warehouse and pick it up. I think it will be a nice restore project. Just as Computer Space, the kind of troubleshooting will be a bit different from the more modern games. As opposed to Computer Space, though, the game is likely less documented. John.... You know you want it! :)

Hope you get Turtles in Time! I think it's superior to the original. Used to have it on the Super Nintendo and loved it. Keep up the great work! P.S. as I'm from the UK it pains me to see an American 'Football' game in a Turtles cab! ;-)

I have Konami 4 player 2 speaker cab. that I want to make into a simpsons or Xmen. haven't decided so it's just plain for now. Started out as a simpsons and was converted by an operator into a killer instinct . no sideart. I'll have to create a new cp top.
