I bought the New Retro Rerelease of Ray Fillet and his arm broke completely off right after I opened him. Playmates definitely doesn't have the same quality as it did back in the 90's.

Playmates don't seem to bother anymore. Amazing they stay in business. In the 90s and early 00s they produced amazing toys with real passion in the sculpts. TMNT, Toxic Crusaders, Skeleton Warriors, TMNT 2003. But around 2010 onward Playmates stopped putting any effort in.

After the re-release of the bad guys in the module box were missing SO many crucial paint apps (only half of Rocksteady's helmet painted? What?!), I took a wait and see approach with this set. Glad/Sad to see my caution paid off...

@@idkwhattohaveasausername5828 I think that's part of the problem. There were paint apps that were missing across the board. But then also bad QC when it came to individual figures. My Rocksteady only had green on the back 1/2 of his helmet for instance.

Thanks for pointing this out. I got a set for me and a set for my son. He is a little too young for them now but we all know how time flies. I am keeping them boxed until then but glad to know the disappointment now instead of later. It’s a shame as I’m mostly down for any rereleased mutants. I hate it for those that will be uninformed.

Supporting this line is a mistake. It simply encourages them to keep churning out subpar stuff. You could literally get the same origi8nal vintage figure for about the same price. Playmates cant even do its own toys right! They literally could have bought a vintage set of parts and recast. But they do everything on the cheap, so im betting they lost that mold for those parts and just went ahead and made the figure anyway.

Big reason why I haven't got these, when they did the terrible paint job to Bebop I was out and now they are doing it again. Not sure who these are for if they aren't even bothering to make the same figure we got years ago. Stinks too as I'd love to have some retro TMNT in my collection.

I have this box set on the way from Amazon. It's dissapointing that Mutagen Man is missing stuff. The foot soldier has already been re-released before a couple of times so it's no suprise that its good. It would be interesting to know the reason why that stuff was not included: was it lost mold issues or cutting costs.

@@GeekDadLife The only thing i could think of for the little pieces not being remade is if like Child toy safety regulations have changed and they didn't want to spend the money on that so they just excluded it. But thats no excuse for not including the yellow gun and tank piece.

If they were unable to replicate those pieces, for whatever reason, there were plenty other characters they could’ve included in Mutagen Man’s place. It’s a big fat middle finger to fans and consumers to say “eh, whatever. Deal with it.”

It’s a shame that these playmates re releases are lackluster. They’re often missing paint apps and even accessories, as well as having poor quality control. I was gonna get this set but I’ll just see if I can find the vintage ones for a decent price

I considered giving these Playmates retros a chance, as I really wanted to recollect my old school TMNT figures. But they skimp out on too much stuff. Super7 is satisfying my TMNT retro needs right now. I realize that they're not for everyone, but they're so well-done. Captures the spirit of the originals while improving on them.

Always appreciate your honesty Jay. I was never a huge Mutagen Man fan but really I feel that's a huge miss too. If you managed to re-release the rest with all the accessories this really falls flat.

Can't wait to see what they exactly mishandled and completely miss next on their next set of re-release sets. After they announced this set I was really looking forward to it but now not so much. Between this set and the Mutant Module Villans Set along with the Moviestar Turtles set all either containing the wrong molds entirely like the movie stars or missing paint apps like the Mutant module Villans Set and now we're getting more missing accessories agian like we originally got in the moviestars set. What is exactly going on Playmates and who are you exactly making these retro figures sets for anymore? Because it sure doesn't seem like it's for the true Collectors or people who originally grew up with this stuff and would noticeably pick up on such big glaring omissions. I was hoping for a Turtles Allies pack next with hopefully a April O' Neil, Casey Jones, Metalhead and maybe a Muckman next to name a few. But just like everything else they release their is definitely going to be something either missing or entirely wrong with those figures as well. So I am sadly just not simply excited about these Turtles Retro Re-releases anymore and I really want to be. Considering their original perfect 25th anniversary TMNT retro figure releases and After The most recent release of The Kenner Classics The Real Ghostbusters Toyline form hasbro. You would think Playmates would have taken notice and gotten a clue on how to exactly do these types of things right by now but sadly that's once agian clearly not the case here. Anyways just some of my personal thoughts on this mess by playmates once agian. Thanks Jay for keeping all of us Vintage Toy enthusiasts up-to-date on these things. Rereleasing these things incomplete is a total sham. They should all come with everything they originally shipped with. They even took out his floaty bits. So they nixed his play feature and removed his accessories. Friggin lame.

But seriously, yeah, that's crazy that all the other figures got their accessories, Wingnut even came with Screwloose, and yet Mutagen Man gets nothing?? Really? Nothing? Mutagen Man not coming with accessories is definitely a bummer, but if I had to guess, they probably did that due to safety issues. These figures are rated for 4 year olds, but I think these might too small and considered choking hazards. I have no idea, but MM is the only figure that got skimped on accessories. Even still, that isn't my big issue with this set. For me, my figures feel like legit rubber! I have no idea why they are so soft. The other re-releases don't feel like this, but it's crazy to me. The figures barely stand, Wingnut's wings pop out so easily, and Leatherhead's mouth barely opens. They are so gummy that they can't retain their shape and they just rubberband back to the standard shape. I'm glad to have more figures in the collection, but this is a mondo bummer, dude. Time to track down the vintage!

I stopped buying thes after buying one Donatello for 7 bucks Canadian and thats Canadian dollars and it was not good quality at all. I'm out of collecting these. There is Super7 and NECA. Too bad Playmates can't do something more with TMNT.

I dont know how i feel about all these re-releases, they are just devaluing genuine vintage items and making it easy to palm off re-releases as originals on ebay. Maybe the accessories were skipped to avoid people saying they were original as this figure is highly collectable and nearly always has parts missing.

I can think of a few reasons for it. They may not have had the weapons part of the mold anymore. Or the little pieces don't pass modern safety standards. Their a choking hazard. Though we're ordering them online this is still a retail product that could be purchased for kids.

No excuse for that. They could have retooled the pieces to make them bigger and made a new gun for him in the same style. The entire point of a reissue is to match the original release as closely possible.

I don't think this is a cost cutting move. What might have happened is that the factory couldn't find the mold. Keep in mind these toys were originally released 20 or more years ago. With the pandemic meaning people can't go to the factory as easy as the past, means less inspection. In the past this has happened before with the movie star Leonardo in the Leonardo anniversary pack was missing his belt. ALtho later on the movie star turtles re-release did include his belt but lack the accessories. (Also probably because the mold is misplaced)
