The water feature's not really an issue for me. I never filled up my vintage figure, either--I didn't like to get my toys wet for fear of the paint wearing away.

Personally, I'm firmly in the camp that doesn't have any desire for action features (even as a kid, I wasn't really a fan), so it's a bit hard for me to relate to disappointment on that score.

That's one of the coolest figures I've ever seen, but the water leakage is a bummer. Especially for the price. I'd love to see an updated version of Pizza Face (the disgusting chef). As a kid he was one of my favorites.

I wonder if you can remove the legs and seal up the cavity with a thin layer of clear silicone? Crazy that a figure from ~30 years ago could be watertight and this one is not!

Thanks for doing the water test! It was my concern because of how the vintage one worked. Disappointing this one doesn't do the same. It would have made him that much better!

I always wondered why he had trash floating around in his life support system when I was a kid. Did Bebop and Rocksteady randomly decide to play Let's Put Things in Seymour when he was an unwilling henchmutant for Shredder? Poor Mr. Gutz. Man, this guy's still one of my favorite freaks from the original Playmates line. Seymour, you melting monstrosity, may you ooze forever.

So far this line does not disappoint. 8 figures in and they're all pretty awesome. The lack of water holding didn't bother me all that much on this figure but I get why other people were. Metal Head was my favorite figure in the original line and he's up next. Ray Filet was a close second. I'm hoping he's in one of the waves they offer this year.

Did they really release this figure WITHOUT the ability to store water?... It's one and ONLY Gimmick. I'm sorry but that is unacceptable. This was one of my favorite action figures from the original line as a child. Even now all this years later that figure still holds water without any leaks whatsoever. This thing never should have released in this condition.

I think the original Mutagen Man was supposed to be filled with the retromutagen ooze. Most of us kids filled him with water because our parents didn't want to buy the ooze.

Adult collectibles tend not to have the action features. None of the MOTU Classics figures had the action features of the originals.

Great, blanaced review of this. Would've loved to have gotten him, but it just wasn't in the budget. I had the original one, which was a great figure, too, and I made multi-coloured versions of the "garbage" out of Super Sculpey to go in his tank.

Yeah I was sad it couldn't hold water or slime. I tried my reproduction Ooze in it and it leaked slowly as everyone said. However from my observations the reason is because they didn't design the hip and shoulder joints the same as the classic. The classic had joints that were part of the glass body mold to just pop on the limbs. The new added ball joint limb was added wrong. Possibly from being reused in the line. They left open areas in the clear shell where the new ball joints are. If you look at the shoulder ones you can clearly see what I mean. There was No Molding over a area of it to seal it. Seams more like someone didn't cast the mold right. They could reissue it fixed or with a added seal over those areas inside.

PDanny - get some clear caulk silicone from homedepot, attempt to seal those edges (from outside as a test) and yhe may be be able to retain fluids, maybe not - but essentially using a qtip (remove the cotton) and attempt to apply a thin wall of silicone to seal that edige join, elminating any air gaps, it will make it water tight (unless the water is coming out at joints ). The silicone can be super easily removed as well, rubs right off - no perma risk or damage!

I wish they could have found a way to maybe just have some sort of watertight "floor", at least around the brain. The magnification effect of the water is so cool for the second and a half the water is in that area.

I also think they should have painted his gun with more detail as to what kind of weapon it is.. slime canister gun type paint, plus included an additional Yellow gun like the original like all other figures have had.

Didn't Brian Flynn confirm in his chat with you previously that Mutagen Man wouldn't be water tight? He knew it was a sacrifice they had to make to get that articulation into the figure. I'm sure if they kept the hip joints the same as the original figure then it would have been water tight, and then you would have fans complaining that the articulation was limited. Ive never had this figure in hand before, only pics and vids etc, so I have no real nostalgia for him, but one thing I will say is I never noticed the actual skull inside the figure until I saw the new version, and you compared both figs side by side. That does look cool, and the newer details on his insides I really like.

I love this figure a lot. Of the details are almost exactly the same as the old one. To an excessive degree. It’s kind of a bummer though that you can’t add the garbage and remove it easily. Once I couldn’t get the apple in I gave up and figured I’d rather getting the other pieces stuck inside.

They should have made him watertight and I'm surprised Masquitor doesn't have the blood. The battle damaged Spinosaurus from Mettal Had a similar blood feature a couple years ago.

I saw the part where he leaks this is to Pixel dan & everyone who got him. Try Bondic to seal up just go out line the casing with it & after it hardens He can hold water then I tried it with mine. Bondic works great to seal stuff like that & to fix toys as well welds it together.

All the paint will come pre-cracked and the the joints will be broken in the box as a way to save you some time.

No reason they couldn't make it sealed. When I was a kid I would add a drop of green food coloring or red sometimes just to make it even more gross looking and sucks the option isn't there on this especially the price tag these have.

MetalHead and Mutagenman were my most favorite out of the TMNT vintage line, Stinkor was my favortite in the MOTU line. I'm expecting when Super7 Metalhead comes out it wont have light piping in it, which is a bummer because that was a reason Metalhead was one of my favorites in the vintage line, So although Mutagenman looks cool, and feels the part, that little feature missing is disappointing. so again i'm expecting the same from Super7 Metalhead disappointed

My biggest problem with this figure is its lack of paint application. I know they want to keep true to the original, but I thought part of this whole line was to IMPROVE on the Playmates versions. Instead, they left the guts all pink (including the skull). The exposed bone on the left knee is intact, but is still flesh colored. The bumps and creases on the skin could also have used some kind of gradient to make those details pop more. When compared to Baxter, it's clear how much Super7 really didn't make as much effort to bring new life into this figure. And yes, not retaining the action feature is a real let-down. Having the floaty bits (which include an UNPAINTED pizza slice) just adds insult to injury.

The new size, design and articulation are the improvements. The original barely moved. But a lot of collector lines shy away from play features now. The MOTU Classics, Transformers Masterpiece etc etc

I fully understand why Dan feels the way that he does about this figure. For me personally, even if the figure were water-tight and designed to be filled with water, I still wouldn't want to do that for concern about how that could effect the figure long-term. and I wouldn't want to worry about accidentally knocking it over and water going all over the place if the thing on the top of his head were to open or something. Not that it's a big issue for me either way (I have this TMNT wave in hand and Mutagen Man is a great figure as-is IMO), but if it had been feasible, it would have been nice if somehow the body/torso could be open up, and if there was a way to place those little accessories that would float inside the vintage around the inside of the new figure so they stay in place, suspended inside the figure, giving the appearance of floating. As-is, the issue with putting those things inside of him is that they just sit at the bottom. Maybe they also could have included some kind of optional part to attach along the inside "wall" of the torso that would somehow give an appearance of him being filled with water. It is not a deal breaker for me either way, but these would still be nice options IMO. That said, while the wasn't one of my personal favorites (I never even had the vintage figure), I can fully understand and agree with wanting Mosquitor to have that blood pumping feature. That would be like Robot not having gears that move (which they did include in the MOTUC figure).
