Happy New Year Traci! It’s officially been 1 year since I got back into sewing after twice abandoning the dream as a girl! I begged my mother for a sewing kit to be just like my grandmother. She passed that year. I reignited the dream in high school when I had a great teacher but becoming a “fashion designer” got buried with practicality and detracted by boys (teenagers sigh) Today at 39 years old, I’ve taught myself to sew (again) thanks to you Traci and many hours of errors! I’ve worn my upcycled creations (art teacher chic) and have more confident than I have in years! Despite the “new” body I have now that I’ve had my babies. So anyways- thanks Traci for EVERYTHING! Beautiful tribute to sewing later in life. Im with you on that. Fashion design school seemed the wrong choice for me so I kept sewing using patterns like my Nana Lavoie showed me when I was 10. Then the 1970s changed it all with restyled jeans and upcycling took off ever since. Im a subscriber for life too! Robin in NC

This is going to be my first project of the year…. I have been trying to figure out what to make with my deceased husband’s flannel shirts and some of my new flannel stash…I had been doing shopping therapy with my 92 yr old mother at all her favorite resale shops … this dress is just IT! This is gorgeous! I love your original ideas here. OMG I HAVE THE BOOTS HA! Right now they are in need of repair. Last time I wore them I was disco dancing at a local vintage store in Winston-Salem NC. My friend owns the store and we had the place to ourselves so I cranked up some Donna Summer. THEN MY BOOTS BROKE HA! The platform cracked across the instep and fell off! The funny part is I didnt even know it and kept dancing OMG. Then later I looked at the floor and there were the remains of what fell off. I must figure out how to salvage them. Meanwhile this memory is emblazened in my mind. The owner of the store passed away before Christmas. God bless everyone. Now lets find the joy of living and creating amen.

i love it! wish I had one to wear. i have an old flannel plaid shirt, like so many old pieces of clothing. can't let it go, just love it so much. love the red plaid, have no recollection the name of the family/pattern but it's a very popular one. i love the fabric, love the fit, love the way they used snaps, the shape of the pockets, just everything. it was made so well. i got it when it was already old and worn out too, its not like i was even the person who wore it out, so i dont have many sentimental memories of wearing it, and yet i find it imposible to let go because it used to be such a perfect thing. i love my favorite plaids, in heavy cotton flannel. some of us have valid reasons for being materialistic, since material does matter after all! i love your dress, love all the plaids together, and how light and worn fabric is good enough for ruffles! it looks so pretty on you like everything you make, and because you are so pretty too.
