Kumudakriya is derived from Pantuvarali/kamavardhini , probably the lone kriti in the ragam. This sensitive ragam's Arohana does not have Panchamam n Nishadham n Avarohana does not have Panchamam alone....ie. Aa: S R1 G3 M2 D1 S /Av: S N3 D1 M2 G3 R1 S . Its difficult to sing while prone to fall prey for griha bhedam, will spoil the rendition; Thus vocalists must have thorough repeated singing practice. Here TN Seshagopalan is found at ease to present a wholesome exposition of theragam in the Aalapana. He maintained the just needed tone n tempo as evinced n proliferated gamakams to fill gaps in between short phrases. The N3 ...Kakali Nishadam in the avarohanam is the key for sweetness . TNS sang a beautiful swarakalpana.
