Daniel Orrett Which books in particular? The popular Star Trek characters are all bound to end up in a leadership position, regardless if it matches their personality or not. Aren't they? I really enjoyed Garak and he ended up being part of new Cardasia's government after the Dominion War. Well and then I liked Quark and he will always remain the bar keeper he was when we were introduced to him. Well Julian Bashir will never be a commanding officer, but I am afraid I am one of just a few fans he has got. I guess Ro was very high in my list of my favorite female trek characters. Perhaps only second to Jadzia Dax.
@KeepersDan9 жыл бұрын
Rylan Joran Later into the typhon pact arc, the best arc in trek books by far is the Destiny Timeline, which is basically the three Destiny books, then a singular destiny, then the typhon pact books, and then on to the newest books "the fall". But to be honest I think everybody should at least just read the three original Destiny books, they are some of the best sci fi stories I have ever read, couldn't reccomend them more :)
@KeepersDan9 жыл бұрын
Daniel Orrett Also, my fave trek character, female or otherwise is Ezri Dax (as much as I love Jadzia) but that is probably biased based on how much of a badass she is as captain of the USS Aventine in the destiny novels :)
@Ryan_Winter9 жыл бұрын
Daniel Orrett That sounds cool, even though I do feel tempted to think that it is the same again with Ezri. I don't see that character in a leadership position. That's not a negative thing at all, though. I do have difficulty seeing Ro as commander of DS9. She is too much of a "tomboy" and a rebel. And Ezri, well I can see her as a councelor, but not as sitting in the captain's chair. She is not Jadzia and even with her I am under the impression that she already had many interests and wasn't that much concerned with taking command. She was a scientist, an adventurer, someone who needed variety. She certainly had been a competend leader, but that's not the point. Not everybody wants to fill that role on a daily basis and not everybody is able to do it for years and years to come. And second, all these stories assume that Star Trek heroes inevitably have to become "captains", if they are meant to be portrayed as "successfull" and that's just not true. I see that it does fit Neris Kira, who was portrayed from the start as a soldier. Someone who can deal with casualties and the terrible aspects of leading. I can see her sending young women and men into nearly certain death, if she has no choice left, but I don't see Ezri doing that. Especially not doing it over and over again. Though I reckon I always liked ST characters the most who didn't really aspire to become "captain".
@KeepersDan9 жыл бұрын
Rylan Joran Yeah your absolutley right, and that is adressed in the books, without spoiling anything a serious of fairly horrific events kind of lead Ezri to sort of lose faith in social science and counselling and stuff, and she gets forced into a couple of command situations due to circumstance, eventually she becomes far more confident and sure of herself and feels that she would rather be protecting people as a captain and stuff, this leads her to switch over to the command decision which Bashir completley disaproves of feeling that she has betrayed science and stuff - which leads to him leaving her.
