Very appropriate cover for Freddie. The backing singers are Freddie, his friend Peter and Roger Taylor, Queen's drummer. The video was very expensive as he re-produced several Queen and solo promo videos

Nice reaction! This song is a cover of The Platter's song, a 1950's hit. Freddie released The Great Pretender as a solo because Queen never recorded any covers. The song resonated with Freddie because he felt that he always had to put on a show, and be the entertainer. Bohemian Rhapsody has some similar themes. Another Queen song with a similar these is, It's A Hard Life.

This is a great cover to the Platters's song from the mid 50s and it summerizes Freddie's life very well. He created the character of Freddie Mercury who was a flamboyant performer, but he always remained a shy, caring and loving guy under his chameleon skin. Freddie had several solo projects over the years like his solo album Mr Bad Guy, later his collaboration with a famous opera diva and some singles like The Great Pretender. Did you recognize Freddie under the red wig at the vocalists? The blond one was Roger Taylor and the black one Freddie's friend Peter Straker. 🤣 Pls, do more Queen reactions.

Loved this cover of The Platters 50’s hit song. I’ve never seen this before. I think Freddie could have done anything and gone anywhere in music or theater or film had he lived. His theatricality and stage presence would have made him a natural for Broadway. As far as any more Queen songs, it’s dealer’s choice for me. You react to whatever they are and I’ll be there guys. ✌️

You know Freddie HAD been asked to do Broadway as well as film acting? The reason that he said “No Thanks” to performing on Broadway was 1) He said he’d get BORED having to do strictly the same performance every time (In the context of the Queen concerts, he was able to change things around in every show and adlib a lot) 2) He said he would never want to do the early matinees! As far as film acting went, he just said he was happy at-that-time being creative within Queen… and besides, he told an interviewer, “That’s not my bag!”😂

More Queen please 🙏🏻 You have so much to choose from style wise. I think everyone except John, the bass player had solo projects too. Lots of Queen fans weren't happy about it though, so a lot of them didn't do too well.

Roger was the blond backup in this one too. Freddie was the redhead. All four guys were dressed in drag for the other video. I want to break free. Roger dressed in drag for at least one other Freddie video. It was one for Fred’s bday in a mid evil castle.

This is a cover of a "Pkatters" song. Freddie always incorporated old rock and roll songs in his shows. He did Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Buddy Holly, anyone he could. He was just a classic all around performer. He could song anything. You should hear, " Who wants to live forever" for the highlander soundtrack.

Freddie felt the song conveyed the way he felt about his public image. People knew him one way, but he was the ‘Great Pretender,’ and someone different behind closed doors. It’s also notable to know that at this time, he had been diagnosed with HIV, and was lying to even the closest of his friends by pretending he didn’t have it. The music video for the song featured Freddie parodying himself in many of his Queen guises through video medium over the years, including visual re-takes of “Radio Gaga”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love”, “It’s a Hard Life”, “I Want to Break Free”, “One Vision”, and “I Was Born to Love You”.

This is one of Freddie's last songs, not his very last but close to, as he was sick and had to remain as clean as possible hence the reason for the lack of Mustache. Of course not his last song, that song was Mother Love. I enjoyed the music of Queen as "Father to Son" continues to rock my world; even to this very day. I was on Active Duty, Army, at Fort Deven's Mass, and did my best to follow Queen. I, too, fell ill late 1987 but for other reasons, cancer, but I survived and my life changed drastically. During my recovery I had more time to spend but it was before the Internet so it wasn't easy. I took Freddie for granted and thought he's live forever. When Freddie got sick he changed very quickly as his illness just consumed him and almost like overnight Freddie went from a mighty Lion to a meek new born kitten almost unable to walk or even move. It was sad to witness his decline and brings tears to my eyes as I type because the World is a bit sadder now that Freddie Mercury is gone. Yes all men die; but some, those like Freddie, should be reserved to live forever but reality has a different path that we all must follow. RIP Freddie Mercury you are sorely missed...

There is an interview where Freddie explained that he wanted to do this cover because he related to being a “pretender”. He considered his performance on stage as his “job”. He plays a character, in real life he’s actually very shy and “boring”. (Although I can’t imagine Freddie ever being boring). So in this video they added snippets of the different characters he’s played in the various music videos they done. I Want to Break Free, Radio Ga Ga, I was born to Love You, Crazy Little Thing Call Love, Made in Heaven, and IT’s a Hard Life. (I think I’m missing one). For a totally, totally different Freddie definitely check out his collaboration with the opera diva Montserrat Caballe. My favorite is Golden Boy, Freddie’s brilliant fusion of opera with rock/gospel/soul.
