This DLC was not what I was expecting. Any expectation I had was destroyed because this was sooooooo good. That was such a "Kratos" answer at 8:04. Sigrun:How did you even get past the gate? Kratos: I forced it open. The whole Valhalla thing was interesting with the whole "Drawing on the memories" thing, and you can't tell me that Kratos and Freya aren't flirting right here at 8:35. What Eir and Gunnr said was interesting because what I get from it, I can't keep completing something the same way. I gotta do things in different ways, how I adapt to my enemies, and how to overcome obstacles. That whole conversation with Kratos and Mimir is interesting at 12:48 - 13:55 because, yeah, Kratos has been through some shit and has done some very messed up things in the past. And even if Mimir says that Kratos is not that "Man" anymore, there ain't no say when that "Man" can come back from time to time. When Kratos was talking about the Judges of the Underworld, I didn't see because I wasn't looking up. First time, going into that throne room, I recognized Helios' voice, but i was not expecting Valhalla to swap Mimir with Helios. And getting to the chamber of sacrifice was unbelievable, and such a throwback. 27:19 was amazing I was not expecting them to bring back the BLADE OF OLYMPUS for the rage. And Valhalla really swapped Helios with Mimir at the last second. As for what happened to Sigrun after she violated the rules of Valhalla I'll leave that to your imagination.

24:36 I remember once hearing or reading something that one of the directors of the game had said about how they typically view the characters. They said something along the lines of no one in the games is really good or bad, or at least they don't try to look at it that way when they're creating the games. I think Kratos as the main character kind of fits that perception pretty well, and if you think about it, its kinda true. There's not really been any truly 100% good person in the games and many of the bad people had good things about them too. So was he evil? Maybe, maybe not. Depends on you I guess, but personally I don't think he was necessarily evil or good. He was just a product of his environment, and probably one of the worst cases of it considering what he went through. There's evidence to suggest he could have been for sure but there's also evidence to say he wasn't as evil as people make him out to be. Like for example the guy he burned alive in the cage. Well that was definitely an evil act but if you go back and play it again you realize that the only way the gods allowed you to get through that trial was for you to make a sacrifice like that. The Gods did many little things like that actually. So it was necessary. And almost, if not every, god he killed in God of War 3 for example tried to attack/kill him at some point, but many of them would still be alive if they hadn't tried to do that(i.e. Hercules, Hephaestus, Helios). The proof of that is the fact that Aphrodite is still alive.😂 Kratos knows he did a lot of wrong though, and he's beat himself up over it a lot for many years. You can tell a lot by playing these last couple of games, and in fact you can tell by just listening to the dialogue in this DLC. Its like he's not allowing himself to experience a good thing because he doesn't believe he deserves it. He's so afraid to take back the throne of God of War even though he knows he'll fight for peace. And if he were truly evil I don't think he would have given the power of hope to humanity. I think this journey in Valhalla is slightly less of one about accountability but more so one about acceptance and confronting the past that he keeps running away from so that he can move forward. On a different note I just wanted to point out that Kratos must be REALLY strong if he not only was able to force his way inside a magically sealed door to Valhalla with his bare hands, but he was also able to break Valhalla which almost led to their death.😲He wasn't supposed to be able to break open that cage to get Mimir. And now I'm curious where it was they were falling to.

Finally downloaded this- it did not disappoint. :) It was inreresting to hear Mimir's back-story, which kind of delves into Celtic mythology with his old master, Oberon. Of course, in "traditional" Norse mythology, Mimir was a giant/ Jotun who guarded a well of knowledge that Odin wanted to drink from. Mimir's cost for Odin to do that? His right eye (which if of course why Odin is always portrayed with a patch, or otherwise having his right eye covered). :)

Kratos wasn't necessarily evil. Selfish yes, but not evil. After pledging his life to Ares, he was bounded by his blood oath to do Ares' bidding whether he liked it or not. Ascension made it clear that breaking a blood oath to a god had SEVERE consequences and it was the Furies that carried out that punishment. Kratos only cared about his home, his people, and his family, but he occasionally saved people too, and showed concern or empathy to those who were dying, like holding Aletheia's hand to comfort her during her final moments after Calistor buried her under rubble, or comforting a fallen Spartan warrior after Erinys tortured him for intel on Kratos' whereabouts. The gods consistently ruining his life more and more eventually caused him to break, with Zeus' betrayal being the straw that finally broke the camel's back. At that point, he lost his home, his people, and his family. He had nothing left to lose.

One thing to explain about why Valhalla doesn't look very 'heavenly', first and foremost as you may remember Valhalla was a part of Asgard, when Asgard blew up it did as well, so we're only seeing a remaining chunk that still serves the same function. More importantly, everything past the entrance gate, the 'real' Valhalla you might call it, is made up of a persons memories, which is why everything looks war torn, in part because its only a partial reconstruction of a realm from Kratos' memories and in another part because most of what Kratos remembers of the nine norse realms was during the events of ragnarok when fimbulwinter and the final battle were tearing the realms apart.

While I agree for the most part it's worth noting that while serving Ares his humanity started slipping away as Ares replaced it with bloodlust. Killing his family basically broke the stupor over him until the Furies started messing with him. It's why he's more mellow in Ascension until he gets his memories back. He even saves a guy from death in that game while he wouldn't be bothered in the later games.

I'm not saying he's a good guy by any means, but while he became evil later on in life, he wasn't always that way. I mean if you think about it, Kratos would technically still be with Freya in a relationship, as his role as Norse God Of War. Because remember in the original Ragnarok story, it's was supposed to be destined with her and Odin. However, they only linked because they were rivals that was supposed to bring peace by getting married. But it never happened cause Tyr was locked up, and Odin was selfish, a liar, and a manipulator that everyone grew to hate, even Aseir. So by there being no Odin or no Tyr (because that's originally who she could have been married as well), the offer goes to Kratos. Quite frankly, it makes sense for those two to be together. Yeah he may have killed her son but Kratos is literally wearing the ashes of his dead family lol. Which according to the DLC, she and Mimir knows all about, so there's no judgement at all💯. @@dbosliceWhat? He's talking about how they know what happened when he became God of War, there is nothing to imply he told them about the ash on his skin. Also, he says they know what happened, not that they know everything, because he is talking about how they know what happened when he had the position as God of War in Greece. He'd have no reason to tell them about why he's pale, we don't even know if Atreus knows, so I doubt he'd tell them if he didn't outright explain it to his son.

I wouldnt say he is evil, but he has done evil things. He is mostly the definition of a Greek Tragedy. His ambition lead him to be a the youngest spartan general, his ego lead him into a battle he couldnt win and a deal he shouldnt have made. During that period, he committed heinous acts in servitude - which manipulated or not he committed. Even after renouncing Ares he still committed those acts (boat captain, burning the man in the cage), The only time he even questioned anything was if it related to Sparta (when he realises he has killed Atreus). His Greek story is always about him losing control to his ambition (the Barbarian army, killing the last Spartan, releasing Pandora to the Flame of Olympus to get to Zeus). It's only at the end of it all that he has that moment of "what have I done?" (beginning of original GOW, and end of GOW 3)

Whether Kratos was 'evil' is...difficult to describe. Its very interesting you bring this up because the DLC goes in depth into this very conversation. Personally, i don't believe that there is a single point in Kratos' entire journey where he could be described as either 'good' or 'evil'. I think he was always more than either of those words. A truly evil person never rethinks their decisions, never doubts themselves, Kratos even back in the original saga was shown to have compassion to certain people, he was moreso cold and uncaring than evil, imo. Back when he was a Spartan captain, he was overly ambitious, but still acting for the good of his people. I wouldn't describe that as evil. Brutal and ambitious definitely. His ambition led him to choosing servitude to Ares over accepting defeat and death on the battlefield, after which he was continually exploited and manipulated up until the very moment he killed his wife and daughter by mistake. Is that evil? I wouldn't say so. Then over a decade of servitude to the gods and up until he killed Ares, he became more and more detached, only clinging to the hope that his sins will be redeemed. I think this was as close to Kratos got to being a genuinely good person, remember he chose to tear himself away from the opportunity to stay with his daughter in paradise in Chains of Olympus all so he could defeat Persephone and Atlas and save the world, that was a massive personal sacrifice on his part. When he killed Ares and was crowned the god of war, he lost his brother, mother and homeland up until GoW 2 when he was killed by Zeus, this just caused him to completely snap, and this is the closest he got to being truly evil. His rampage against the gods who lied and manipulated him drove him to slaughter them one by one and in doing so cause cataclysmic damage to his world, damage that ended in what could be said is genocide. Yet he still chose to sacrifice himself again and release the power of hope to humanity at the end of GoW 3. Does his careless rampage make him evil? Do his good deeds redeem him? I'd say no to both, because hes had moments of either extreme Overall, its a stretch to call him either word, i think. Kratos' has always been more complex than a simple description of good guy or bad guy, and thats a testament to how good the writing of this series has been

I wouldn’t say that Kratos was evil even in the beginning. He was a spartan general who almost lost his life in battle and offered himself to Ares as a servant but when he was tricked into killing his family, he was a man on a mission; to kill Ares. And as time went on, after taking the throne, it was like the gods turned their backs on him n they still relieved him of his nightmares. So for their actions, he was like they all gotta go, titans too cuz they used him and basically casted him aside. I’d be pissed too!

Kratos was born resntful and angry as we see in chains of Olympus, although to be fair, he was raised as a Spartan, and the gods stole his brother from him at a young age which already instills the trauma into him. I don't think Kratos was evil, I think he was cursed, even before his birth, which set him into the path of being the monster he would become, Zeus clearly never wanted him to be born and that hate led destiny to play it's part in Kratos becoming who he was. Kratos was a tragedy, which was unfairly placed upon him who acted monstrously, but never truly evil. That's my take anyways.

I have never in my life wanted to do something so bad. I look so much like him that everywhere i go people call me Kratos. I am putting a short film together and sending it to Amazon. Anyway, i'm 6'5 243 pounds and counting. I have always succeeded when i put a goal in front of me. I'm also 49 years old as well. The only difference is the shape of our nose which can be fixed with prosthetics. Keep your eyes peeled for my Kratos live action video. Instead of buying a badly made costume i'm slowly piecing mine together. Cant wait for the final reveal. Promise your minds will be blown.

Kratos was definitely evil. I think when people see you say that about Kratos they think of his intentions, but no matter what his intention was he was still slaughtering innocent people just for “getting in his way”. Yes he showed some degree of feelings for his family but other than that he was brutal.

He wasn't evil during Ascension, but after that he was pretty villainous. Although, while he was brutal, it's worth noting that even in the later games he tried to spare people if they didn't bother him, Theseus, Icarus, Perseus, the Fates, and Herc come to mind, obviously he wasn't a good guy or anything though.

Kratos was not evil evil, let me tell why i said that. when the gods died in god of war 3 for each of them there was some natural phenomenon where the world changed like seas rising up, plants dying, sun was no more. but for athena there was nothing like that. FYI she is a high tier goddess, not like some low tier gods like hercules or something, so what changed in the world. athena is the goddess of wisdom, as soon as she died all intelligence and wisdom left the world. so thats why kratos seeked to save titans even though they are just as bad as the olympians, sure he got help from them but he never said or promised he would save them from the great war. Zeus went even dumber, in god of war 2 he personally tried to kill kratos, but why did he do nothing when he saw kratos destroying the world he just stood back and watched and waited for kratos to kill everyone, and many characters lost their wisdom and just attacked a guy who just massacared many gods single handedly. This also caused kratos to go even more crazy and kill gods who didnt attack him at all like Hera, and he knew the world is getting destroyed but he kept going like he was blind to it. Kratos helped many in the previous games who begged for help like Orkos the son of aries and a fury, who shouldve been a target of his rage. Sure, kratos was evil but not to a point of murdering every single guy who even begged for mercy. This all got even worse when athena died. And also we dont yet know why kratos even began his war with the barbarians at the very beginning. he didnt start out to destroy everything and everyone. the gods he met along the way turned him into a monster.
