To take it a step further, Geralt doesn't even know what she is being charged with. They were listing her crimes before Vesemir and Geralt rode up. This also illustrates Geralt being more reactionary than anything. He has no idea what is actually going on. He just sees something he doesn't like, and reacts.

The myth that Witchers are completely stripped of their humanity when they are mutated is exactly that, a myth. Some it does, some it doesn't, though it will affect all to some extent. Some it twists and actually makes them evil (Assassins in the School of the Cat for example). I think you will both enjoy playing Witcher 3. My wife has played it through, and she enjoyed it.
@aleksandramarciniak25212 жыл бұрын
Ignorant people say witchers don't have emotions. The truth is witchers are simply able to perfectly control them, Puss in Boots and his big wet eyes have no power here 😅
@nitrokid2 жыл бұрын
That's mostly because the mutation made them very deadpan. Not that they don't have emotions, they do. They're just not capable of showing it, so they often came across as cold.
@fantasywind39232 жыл бұрын
Additionally one can imagine the witchers common perception and what it does to their psychology, they are viewed as freaks and outcasts, and of course there's also the thing that the witchers are basically 'child soldiers' raised from young age, subjected to rigorous training so it probably could mess some of them up psychologically, then there are the infamous Cat School witchers some of whom turned to be almost psychopaths, some considered them 'failed mutations' the harsh training from hell and hard lives they lead would put some pressure on them but indeed the witchers by their very making process are not deprived of their humanity or ability to feel emotion.

CD Projekt Red is a Polish company. Projekt in Polish translates to the English "Design", but also Projekt looks cool! Like Korn spelling it with a K instead of a C. I think it catches the eye and was a good design choice.
@Kondiqq2 жыл бұрын
Projekt in Polish can have different meanings and it's definitely not "design" in this one. The company CD Projekt was founded in 1994. Projekt also means "project" or "plan" or "sketch" and stuff like that. The company was just a publisher back then. They wanted to bring legal video games to Poland, so they started to make translations to Polish and releasing the games on CDs as legal physical copies. Before 1994, there was no copyright law for software in Poland. CD Projekt popularised buying video games in Poland by making quality translations with dubbing from top Polish actors and beautiful physical boxes with extras. CD Projekt RED started as a part of the CD Projekt, but they're entirely separate independent companies now. Basically, CD Projekt was a project to bring legal video games on CD to Polish market.

You guys completely misunderstood the beginning. The war-torn world of witcher, where a local has nothing to eat, looted the wounded soldiers on the battlefield, and ate their flesh to fill her stomach. She had no other choice to stay alive.Evil. Soldiers should just complete the order, execute the woman, but instead they started to beat her - "play" with her for what she done to their fellow soldiers. Evil Geralt stepped in, killed two man. Evil. Leaving a criminal, with the choice, to hang another criminal. Try to make justice in that situation. Books are filled with such situations.

I don't want you to get me the wrong way but I was genuinly impressed with your wife's immediate understanding of the trailer, not only for its action (as opposed to other reactions I've seen). I love this trailer especially because it summarizes what makes the witcher such an amazing universe. It's complex, dark, yet very humanlike. The woman is said to be guilty of murder, cannibalism and looting, which are in fact fairly common in no man's land (called Velen in game), as it is a very hostile place where people die of war, hunger, discrimination etc. Even though we are not given the proof of her guilt in this trailer, her committing those crimes is likely in fact, which means she either killed people to eat them, or found some corpses. Although Geralt doesn't want to meddle in other people's affairs, he is always forced to do so. Witchers are said to be emotionless killers who only work for coin, no matter who hires them. They are hated by many who often insult them and call them mutants. Yet that is a lie and Geralt is a perfect proof of the contrary : he is noble and more human than those 3 butchers who were going to kill a defenceless woman by tormenting her (whatever that means, including rape etc). Did he make the right choice ? That's a question that is rarely answered in the Witcher and it is up to the player/viewer to have his own opinion.

there are some cases in the game where Geralt says He is the White Wolf and Butcher of Blaviken. and some of the guys actually believe or know the stories and actually just go like "Oh no Im not messing with that guy... For context, the nilfgardians are invading temeria and witcher 3 takes place during this war and this is likely a territory that is being occupied by the nilfgardians. Almost all of the temerians that are still there are resisting in some ways as well. Many of them are also suffering from starvation as a result of the war consuming everything, so the Temerians are also desperate and committing what would normally considered crimes, but in wartime it's a bit more complicated. Nilfgardian laws are also much more strict than Temeria, not to mention wartime law is march harsher as well. (you see this in the game as well) I guess I should stop, a lot of this is shown in the game really well, so you'll see it first hand when you play.

The 'evil' quote originally comes from the short story "The Lesser Evil", in the first book "The Last Wish": "Evil is evil, Stregobor. Lesser, greater, middling, it's all the same. Proportions are negotiated, boundaries blurred. I'm not a pious hermit, I haven't done only good in my life. But if I'm to choose between one evil and another, then I prefer not to choose at all." Moral uncertainty, and having to choose between evils without enough, or reliable, information is the theme of Witcher 3, and often you never find out what the 'right' thing was.
@runbaaPl4y Жыл бұрын
It's never really confirmed if the woman actually cannibalized corpses or not. Her being executed wasn't what Geralt had problems with. It was the torture. If she was indeed guilty of her crimes, and had they executed her and be done with it, Geralt probably wouldn't have intervened. But he he hated seeing the torture, to see someone who is obviously not fighting back continuously being tormented needlessly.

Its actually pretty vile, normally young women who would help on battlefields as nurses or the very least triage. Would reject advances and then be condemned as some "evil sorceress" and clearly all these charges were false. Cannibalism, looting corpses, and failing to save wounded soldiers just to have them turn around and say you "murdered the wounded." Unspeakable inhumane treatment to try and justify punishments like death by torment. Which is an absolutely horrible thing to do to someone.

To play Devil's Advocate: Keep in mind that as a Termerian, it's very likely that the woman might have done all those things they accused her of. The Nilfgardians invaded Termeria, there was a major war. There are starving people who have lost loved ones to the Nilfgardians. There is more then a decent chance a poor starving village would try to get loot from a battle field and even kill any wounded Nilfgardian they could.

You may think that saving that woman is a good thing, but without evidence, you never know. While playing this game, I made the mistake of helping some lady. Turns out, she was worse than the monster. It would have been better to let her die instead of helping her. “Innocent” people often trick Geralt into helping. That’s why you must investigate the evidence while playing the game. Trust the facts, not smooth words or pretty faces. Unfortunately, the situation presented in this video was either “help or don’t”. There was no time to investigate if the woman actually deserved punishment. So, in this video, Geralt either saved an innocent person, or rescued a psychopath. That’s the problem with people. Unlike mindless monsters, they can pretend to be good.

The funny thing is, the men were completely justified, morally and legally for the duty they were carrying out and what they were doing to the woman. She was guilty of all the charges and more. The trailer just does a masterful job of making the viewer sympathize and want to help her. It shows the men enjoying their job a little too much, muddying the "who is good, who is evil" dynamic when Geralt shows up, which leads to him stepping in. And that's a big theme in the game. Stepping into and getting involved in ongoing situations without a full detailed picture of what is going on beforehand. Such a masterpiece.

just as a little note : The games are a sequel to the books, not an adaptation. Meanwhile, the Netflix series is *supposed* to adapt the books (they're not doing a very good job of it) So, if you're playing the game, I can highly encourage you to read the books as well, and go watch a summary of the first two games, cause context is really importantin the wolrd of The Witcher. There is a lot of references everywhere and overall the games are really accurate to the books. BUT, bueing sequels, they will spoil the hell out of you if you didn't read them or if you intend to watch the full show. Cause in TW3 in particular, the devs really considered that you read the books before you played the games. Talking about book characters like you're supposed to know them, talking aboutthings that happened that you're supposed to know about. SUre, you can do the game without all of this, but it will leave you confused a handful of times for sure

I can say this now because you've probably played the game now. Still, minor spoilers. The theme of the The Witcher games is 'the lesser evil' and perhaps 'unintended consequences'. If you spare someone at one point, it may turn into a boon or a bane later. The refugee you save from a bunch of soldiers may turn to banditry later with his wife and children waiting in the bandit camp. Or if you let him die you'll find his family, killed by monsters because he wasn't there to protect them. Many times during your quests, bounties and missions, there is no 'right choice' but only a bad choice and a not quite as bad choice, and sometimes it's impossible to tell which will be which. Paraphrasing the game: 'A witcher carries two swords, one of silver and one of steel. People assume one is for killing monsters and the other for killing people. The truth is, they're both for killing monsters.'

If you wAnted to rank the versions of Geralt as an all around character it would be like so. 1. Game Geralt 2. Book Geralt 3. Polish series, "The Hexer" Geralt 4. Netflix Geralt (not Henry Cavill's fault. The writers ruined it on purpose.) There are so many individual stories of "Geralt vs Anything you can imagine" that you could have done multiple seasons and people would have loved it. But Netflix, of course, decided to put their focus on Ciri and Yennefer. That could have been cool down the road once people understood Geralt's character and the world he inhabits. But to start like that and jump into a girl power storyline with Geralt on the side? That was a horrible call. So far, the best thing Netflix has done for "The Witcher," is the animated movie " Nightmare of the Wolf. "

In Polish version Vesemir father figure for Geralt and his companion in the video speaks disapointed tone coz Geralt once bean in such situation when he was "young witcher" he slay bandits attacking from ambush a trade caravan ....and he had hope for geting a coin for his service plus gratitude of trader and his daughter - in reality Trader fall on heart stroke after he saw Witcher in blood with black eyes ...and daughter thinked that he slay her dad in need of gread (every body know that Witchers are gready on coins ) and run with scream puke disgustied all the situation and dead body's. That's why Witchers dont mess in human / human situation Geralt is the soft ball here. Normaly he should pass them and dont even bother. Btw the leader of the groupe is the deserter from Redanian Army hes on battle field When Nilfagrd charge on Redanians and Yenefer cast spell of earth burring. Take care !
