She did it perfectly, I agree, paying homage and respect to the song. Those “show-off trills and yelling” as you so term them, have a perfect place in music also, and it takes amazing skill and talent to deliver them. You may not prefer this type of singing but it is certainly powerful and moving and has its place (a very strong one) in music past and present, a was born out of true raw emotion. One type of music doesn’t have to be spoken of condescendingly because you prefer another. They each have their place.

What an absolutely stunning tribute to this song! I can't imagine anyone doing it better than Cynthia did. I read some of the comments below and I echo, that she was the perfect choice to perform this song. No oversinging, no embellishments, no efforts made to "make" the song her own. Her voice, the lyrics and the background music were not competing with each other, but rather harmonious.

@@nataliyanabakova7419 look you may or may not be familiar with how America works ( I know there are lots of international commenters) but I can guarantee, all the bullsh!t he wrote about no embellishments, no oversinging, etc. was an insult. These pompous purist ( and I see the dozens of comments repeating this insanity) are just sooooo suuurrree "certain artist" will 'fk up' their beloved Broadway standards, they are soooo shocked "those artist" can do the song "properly". All the b×tching about oversinging only gets thrown at "certain" artist. Wanna guess which artist? So yes, I'm okay. Are you?

you kno i usually feel like the overall concept of angels is so tired and boring but every time i watch/listen to cynthia erivo perform i'm like goddamnit maybe there is a divine force and she is its agent after all. just a spiritual beauty whether she's in trousers and a shirt or looking like a bougie wedding cake topper as here. and i also have always felt similarly about julie andrews, so this was an apt production choice. a great tribute! and made me tear up to watch her watching her, seemed they were both touched, very lovely!
