You know, honestly, I know Wilford is a maniac, but his ideas make sense. Life can't sustain itself indefinitely. He us also the only one who understands the snowpiercer like no other. His genius with big Alice can't be questioned either. She was a prototype, not yet ready for service, but he was able to fix her up and catch up to the snowpiercer. He also does show some concern for the people of the snowpiercer. He slowed down when big Alice switched onto the track, preventing her from knocking off the end of the tail. If he did, the Snowpiercer could loose a lot of it's cars, since it doesn't have a normal coupling system.

No she was ready for service and intended as a Snowpiercer supply train. The only prototype was the Engine. Which means that it's an earlier version of Snowpiercer's Engine and that Big Alice came first.

His big plan is to capture Snowpiercer and might move everyone except the worker into big Alice, if one car derailed the whole train will collapse and destroy everything he wants.

Well Melanie Javi boki and Josie from season one all had off screen deaths but Josie comes back from being frozen when we thought she was dead. So that means these three may still be alive just boki and Javi in a prison and Melanie out in the cold because she does have some resistance to the cold

Wilford is extraordinary charismatic. He’s a bad dude but I can understand why people like him when he acts like he knows everyone personally and acts like he cares for them. Even if in reality it’s for his own gain. Layton has 0 experience leading and is just trying to do his best. He isn’t charismatic and isn’t selfish enough to force a peace.
