This ain't no walk in the park...this is Mountain Thunder!
To celebrate 50 years of friendship between Steam Incorporated and the Glenbrook Vintage Railway, the two groups teamed up to form the largest passenger carrying service since 1986.
3 locos with over 3,700hp collectively, pulling 20 carriages. 380 metres long at nearly 600 tonnes.
The train originated at Paekakariki in the early hours of Saturday 6 August 2022, with Da's 1431 & 1410 pulling Steam Inc's 13 carriages. At Palmerston North, the train combined with GVR's 7 carriages and their DBR 1254 to make up the impressive train.
The train was a historical event amongst the history of the New Zealand preservation scene, and will be remembered by the over 800 passengers who travelled on the sold out occasion, as well as the many railfans and members of the public who came out to witness the event.
GVR & Steam Inc have many joined trips planned for the end of the year, keep an eye out on their websites and social media pages for more info on these in the coming weeks.
