Those two would 100% not survive a long distance relationship and college. There is nothing wrong with the guy you date in high school not being the love of your life. Peter-"you chose distance" is kind of manipulative
@alm.20003 жыл бұрын
Changing long plans in last minute and getting mad at the person for not being happy is what’s manipulative. He got a scholarship he cannot change schools just like that, she can, she did choose distance herself for no actual reason and he as a boyfriend in love +his father’s pre trauma has every reason the feel bad about it, he doesn’t want their relationship to end and in reality? It would in 99% of cases.
@pix84033 жыл бұрын
you can feel bad about a situation like that, you can be unhappy about it, but the minute you start throwing a fit and complaining that the person you love is trying to go to a school that would best suit them, “choosing distance” over you, you don’t genuinely love them. you should want what’s absolutely best for your person, whether that means 30 miles away or 30,000. and to add to it, the minute you start blaming distance for a failing relationship, when you’re not even away from each other yet, should mean the end of things. if you don’t full heartedly believe that the distance is worth it, (for someone’s future or happiness at a school) and you think they should throw their life away to follow you, or vise versa, that is the end of a good relationship. if you genuinely want that relationship to work, you will work for it and distance won’t matter because in the end, you’ll be back together, and living happily because you both had to opportunity to grow in the best situation possible for your separate personalities.

Thoughts from someone who read the books then watched the movies: I liked TATB3, even if it’s not as good as the book (the books were great and focused a lot on the family grieving the death of the mother). I love the Asian and BIPOC representation in characters like Lara Jean and Lucas! :) the scenes in Seoul made me feel like this is the closest we can get to travelling 🤣 and the scenes in Korea overall play homage to their Korean heritage and their late mother so it was refreshing that Trina the stepmom was there and honoured that too. I find LJ’s character especially relatable as she is an introverted, shy, quirky teen that’s both smart without being a nerdy typecast. Her love for baking, books, good style and 80s movie - gives her personality. She’s also obviously gone through loss too so she has emotional wisdom. I think as a protagonist she’s got her own mind and it’s refreshing to see Asian representation/a character like LJ her play a lead. Trina the stepmom is also great and I like that she doesn’t play the stereotypical “evil” figure, but is really a great new mom figure to the girls especially after the loss. Love the female friendships and redemption of Gen. The sisterhood was heartwarming too. It’s refreshing how she doesn’t get into a university because I’m sure many students can understand rejection or when life doesn’t go according to plan. They did change the schools from the books. Netflix loves the Ivy Leagues. But I want to be clear that it’s different in the books. Also refreshing that LJ gravitates to a school that’s right for her, not out of proximity to a boy and isn’t even an Ivy League so people can stop being petty about that. As for the relationship, I get why people can be meh about it, because things weren’t always healthy (I’m a John Ambrose gal myself, but I get how LJ and Peter were written to be meant together). Was LJ and Peter’s relationship perfect? No. Was he kinda dumb/emotionally immature at one point? Oh for sure. But we have to remember this is fairly realistic... they’re young. 17 or 18 probably? they’re still figuring out what healthy relationships and communication looks like. Peter also felt threatened that LJ was going to be far away because of his own abandonment issues, that’s a valid (not an excuse but a valid backstory). LJ and Peter also broke up for very valid reasons in the previous two movies (would you stay with someone who you believed was cheating? I appreciate LJ’s self respect to leave). Peters apology and romantic gesture in the end was also super sweet, and in my eyes, redeeming. A lot of people were like why didn’t they have a conversation, but I’m sure they did. That’s why there was a montage of them hugging/dancing (where they probably exchanged words and then, as Alex would say, doing the devils tango (except in this case it’s a lot more wholesome/out of love). As someone who studied counselling and see couples and individuals in my practice, even adults have this problem (poor communication, lack of boundaries, childhood wounds that still affect their adult relationships) that I think LJ and Peter are fairly decent as fictional characters go. Flawed protagonists sure, but charming and relatable. Let’s not be so quick to judge. It’s realistic/hits home for a reason... I mean, a conflict-free couple isn’t really realistic. I think for a bunch of teens about to make a decision to go away for college is fairly realistic. To be fair, they did change a bit from the books where the book focussed on them actually doing the long distance so LDR couples can relate. And for those who haven’t read the books, I do recommend them. I read them myself years ago and even though I’m no longer a teen or considered an early young adult, I think it’s reminiscent of those adolescent days & it’s nice to support Asian American work right now. Han writes a rich world and there’s a lot more growth and dimension in the novels. Netflix doesn’t always get adaptions well (look what happened to the cartoon Winx and the live action mess that was Fate the Saga... what the heck is that if y’all change the characters) but they did alright with TATB1-3. I think because the author herself was very involved in the process of casting and writing and they wanted to respect the original work which is refreshingly good.

I mean. I remember not many people in my class caring about the student loans. They just didn’t see the reality of it I guess. They saw a school, and the “college experience” and decided to apply without even considering tuition. What’s worse is they go without even knowing what they want to pursue. They literally just go throw tens of thousands of dollars out the window, find out they don’t like the “experience” or whatever random degree they chose, and drop out. @@septemily It baffles me how community college isnt promoted more as an option. You can do a lot of your prerequisites, explore different electives, learn your educational preferences, and figure out if you even like college. Blows my mind how people disregard it because *MuH PrEsTiGe*. The fact is most colleges have similar quality programs, only few are exceptional in certain areas. But what do I know, I just got a bachelor's from a decent state school.
@septemily3 жыл бұрын
@@Celalec YES. EXACTLY. I literally tell everyone I meet that is considering going to college, but doesn’t know what they want to do, Im like “COMMUNITY COLLEGE IS PERFECT FOR YOU THEN.” It’s sad how much it’s not promoted as an option, even if the community college I go to (and work at) is advertised a ton. High schools are just like “here are colleges. Strive for the best ;) “ but there’s a stigma against community colleges for some reason, that they’re inferior. In Missouri, there’s this thing called MOTR classes, basically meaning if it’s listed as MOTR it can transfer to any college in Missouri. So taking English 101 at a community college for $300 is the same exact class (in the eyes of the state) as a University for thousands.
@jcrlb2153 жыл бұрын
@@septemily it actually makes me sick knowing that people do exactly what you described. I personally know 5 people who went to my high school then the same university as me and all dropped out by the end of my freshman year. I chose the university route because I’ve known what field I would like to be in since my junior year of high school, and I was offered a great scholarship and tuition lock for 4 years with admission. My school is also far enough from my home town that I’m able to live in a completely different climate but it’s about 2 and a half hours from home. That being said, I’m about to graduate in a couple months and I still wish I completed all the credits I could at a community college first. My school is a state school and the cheapest in my state at that, but universities are ridiculously expensive as it is. Though now that I think about it I would’ve been pissed to only have one semester of the university experience due to the pandemic completely changing the second half of my junior year and now all of my senior year. So I guess it kind of worked out🤷♀️
@jcrlb2153 жыл бұрын
@@Celalec lol my boyfriend took a couple classes over the summer a couple years ago at a community college, one he was retaking and the other he was just a little behind on credits. The one he was retaking was a chemistry, and three chemistry classes taken at our university later he still says it was the best chemistry class he’s taken. And he thought the campus was way nicer than ours. Community colleges definitely seem to be underrated

i'm honestly really glad that they let Lara Jean actually go to NYU and do what SHE wants to do and not have Peter guilt trip her into staying with him and going to Stanford/Berkley
@andreebernieringenito53213 жыл бұрын
Not it's not a guilt trip... I've been in Peter shoes more than once. First because I had a dad issue similar like him. Since childhood, even if our father figure didn't left US, it still feels like it. It's called feeling of abandonment and sometimes it only grows bigger in our heart. Secondly, my ex "choose distance" and it felt like he was leaving me like my father. Like Peter I was so sad and devastated. Then I accepeted the fact that my ex needed to be happy, that everything will be alright. But no, it wasn't because. In our head the person we're with is the most important thing and we would do f*cking anything for that person... but that person, isn't here with us. We "choose" that persone while that person "choose" distance. After a year I moved in with my ex far away from my family, my friends and that's when I realized I lost myself. So no it's not manipulative it's just a different way to see things, because we are hurt. Laura and Peter are sadly not meant to be toguether because they don't have to same ideology. She has everything (the college she choose and relationship)while he has...half of it (college but no relationship- not the one he wanted anyway). Unfortunately. I think they should brake up in order for Peter to be happy as well....

@stanbtsforaclearskin3 жыл бұрын
It wasn't about that but he having abandon issues with his father + Lara Lean changed all the plans after months without telling him + sorry but she cheating on him wasn't something that we should forget. I mean, she have every right to decide what university she wanted, but he also have the right to know that she changed his mind. Lara Jean listened him say how happy they would be, how excited he was, and then after months she told him that she would not do it. He felt betrayed and that the she would do the same thing that his father did to him. He made it clear that he wasn't comfortable with a long distance relationship, he had every right to break up with her if he wasn't happy. But he noticed that his personal issues were interfering in their relationship and apologized, then he become really supportive. But you have to remember that Lara Jean was the one with a bad communication, she waited a lot to told him something really important, that's why she didn't get mad. If she would have told him her decision (or not even her decision, just her doubts), they would have talked and he would have understood and supported her since beginning. So both were guilty, she for her bad communication and he for being kinda selfish and let his daddy issues affect the relationship.
