I have seen that with belted cartridges. It’s the only cartridge I’ve had head case separation problems with. Obviously I don’t own custom firearms. I doubt I ever buy a belted cartridge firearm again because of the loose tolerances. Even trying to bump the shoulder 2-3 thousands the brass just doesn’t last long because it has stretched so much from the first firing. Your custom chambers are something completely different. Good info thanks for the explanation. Happy shooting 👍👍

I shoot a 300 win mag and reload for it. An issue I've dealt with is a discrepancy between my chambers belt/shoulder relationship and my dies belt/shoulder relationship. When I only move the shoulder back as you described it leaves a bulge in the case right above the belt as the die is cut for the belt and that leaves a gap between the case body and belt cut in the die. After a few firings this small area that doesn't get sized back down begins to make extraction sticky.

Dear Sir - phone me, too much for this format. Thanks.......

I know exactly what you are talking about with the belted case reamers. I measured my 7RemMag nosler brass, new vs once fired. The chamber allowed the brass to bump forward 10 thousandths. Some belted cases have case length as much as 20 thousandths.

Dear Sir - very true; but unknown to most average shooters. Thanks...............

Wasn’t the 7 rem made to “sell” since it is essentially a copy of the 7 weatherby? It may not have been as blatant as the 7 prc in marketing, but the 7 rem didn’t improve over the 7 weatherby

Agreed - but no double radius shoulder. Merry Christmas.

He should go with a 300WSM with a reamer like mine - bumped out the body 0.002 like Alex Wheeler did with the 6.5 and 7PRCs to reduce early clickers. My reamer is based on a Norma brass dummy with a 210 Berger VLD seated out like a PRC cartridge, thus, it takes a medium to long action. The 300WSM has plenty of power.

Please explain “clickers” what is it? I’ve heard the term never got a explanation.
@Accuracy1st9 ай бұрын
@@chadperry4021 A clicker is a pressure sign during bolt lift. SAAMI spec PRC reamers, specifically 7PRC and 6.5PRC contribute to early pressure signs, whereas the Alex Wheeler reamer design much improved the chambers so as to try and obviate early clickers. I'd post a video title but if I do youtube will delete my post

@@Accuracy1st do you think it’s a design flaw or a built in safety? Like how randy pobst discovered the then new c8 corvette understeering when pushed hard on the track.
@SigmaBallistics9 ай бұрын
@@chadperry4021 over expansion at the 0.200" line. Either from overpressure or a poor match between the die and the chamber.

so basically if you reload even with a factory chamber and dont push the shoulder back too far there is no advantage to non belted?

Just a thought maybe you should make the rifle then sell it and price it by how it shoots. A flawless diamond sells for more money. A 1/8 MOA should sell for much more than 1/4 MOA Rifle

Dear Sir - Unfortunately, only highly competitive, extremely knowledgeable, experienced shooters will pay for quantifiable performance. The ill-informed masses just want what they want without regard to logic or performance. This is why I want to transition from building to teaching; tired of casting pearls before swine. Just watched this video, basically you don't like all of the marketing these days. It's 2024 it's here to stay. Just like automobiles, they make new models every year that does the same thing, get you from piont A to piont B.
