Hey des the reverse deck stack you’re talking about was done by a player named Trevor Humphries where he would take a peek of the bottom card of his opponents library and put non land cards on top essentially mana screwing his opponent and the opponent would have to mulligan every time. Glad you are raising awareness of cheating in magic.

I showed up to my first FNM and entered last week I was talking to some of the players say hi meeting people etc and I was informed that the guy I was playing on round one spends ludicrous amounts of money on his deck so once it was time I introduced myself explain that I was new and all he said was ok this will be quick then now I'm fine with a bit of trash talk but that just came off rude the first turn he drew 8 cards and played all innocent about it tried paying the wrong mana costs and I repeatedly corrected him and I called him out on the cards in his sleeve (seriously what kind shit card trick is that?)at that point he was banned 4 people came up to me after and gave me there thanks everyone from then on was super cool one guy gave me a booster and helped me make my deck better ps. sorry if this sounds like a rambling I just got home from my birthday 21 today never had alcohol before kinda drunk

I think the only other person that has ever made videos on cheaters is ‘MTG Degree’, but other than that, I haven’t seen anyone. But this is very important that people need to know, so it’s good that people are willing to show others how to catch others

I always make a point of taking the top 15-20% of the deck and putting it om the bottom as a cut. Its quicker (you usually just have to snipe at the top with one hand and drop it next to the pile before sliding it on top). If they were trying to stack the top, now its on the bottom.

love the video and the idea but do people really see cutting the deck as not trusting the opponent? I've always seen it as more of a sportsmanship thing for each player to cut the deck.

I do it out of habit. I have 100% trust in awesome players from my local Pauper community (less with the standard folks though lol) but I still cut the decks. It just feels like a default thing to do. The only exception is the Burn player. He doesn't cut the opponent's deck and I feel awkward cutting his, like I don't trust him. So I don't cut top ^_^

I once let a 2 headed giant game start after seeing one of the opponents put 2 or 3 counter spells on top of his deck after the cut from under the table, and once he cast the first counter on my team mate's spell stated, "but, because (insert cheater's name) tutored 3 Counter Spells to the top of the deck at the beginning of the game, every spell of ours that he counters with those three is instead copied and cast again." so he had half a hand of useless cards after cheating.

A friend of mine cuts the top 7 cards when cutting just to spite cheaters. Another friend refuses to give cuts. His thing is "if you have to cheat to win, you know how sad you are" and "if he beats you whike you are cheating what does that say about you as a player?"

bit of a story time! I used to be a little shit and I would stack my deck, I would leave it with nothing too overpowered I was just really bad at the game and I wanted a fighting chance, so I would do the hand in hand stacking, well I had gotten really good at it, I could feel which cards went were not based on marked sleeves just knowing basically how many cards I had picked up, I would look up as I shuffled and stack everything I wanted into the middle and I would set up three of four good starting hands, then I would force them to cut, even if they didn't want to and wanted to rush I would focus more on them cutting my deck, then when they cut I'd have on of the perfect hands, I don't do this anymore but just a warning, people can get seriously good at this method and it gets alot harder to counter

Going to an RPTQ this Sunday because I won a sweet sealed tournament (Modern Masters 3). I am so cautious about my opponent cheating and will be watching them like a hawk. I doubt this will be used but I am a bit nervous about it. Glad these videos are here.

i had a guy get mad at me for shuffling his deck at an fnm. he claimed it put more wear and tear on his cards. lol. he was using cheap ultra pro sleeves, and one split while i was shuffling, he got super mad at me. it was hilarious.

I've been around cheaters and I once easily leveled the playing field against an opponent who was stacking his deck (this was my freshman year when I had no clue about cutting because no one had taught me that) I obliterated the guy but not before wiping out his Garruk, Apex Predator.

I casino shuffle my own deck in front of other MtG players and then casino wash and cut my deck in front of the opponent and then request to shuffle their deck every. Single. Time. I. Can. Needless to say I once went 3-1 without ever having to play more than 2 rounds in modern because the fear of my riffle shuffle and casino wash scared the opponents lmao.

Be careful as this can be done with mash shuffles as well and mixed with hand in hand. I use this commonly when doing card tricks with my friends. The real danger is when they stack the bottom then crack a fetch and force it to the top. Please go over this as I saw the OWNER OF MY SHOP! Do this once.

Always shuffle your opponent's deck well when they offer it for cut. It's totally in your right to shuffle your opponent's deck when they offer a cut. It will shut down any deck stacking shenanigans.

If, in a tournament, your opponent fails to present his deck for you, allowing you to shuffle and/or cut the deck, that is at least a warning for your opponent. Also, for tournaments, it has become a requirement that you're to shuffle your opponent's deck; this because some people find it rude to shuffle an opponent's deck, so instead of making it optional, it's been made a requirement. Source: a lvl 1 judge.

When you mash shuffle as well, you need to put the back 15-20ish cards in the front every few shuffles. Otherwise the same cards tend to stay at the back of the deck. An opponent can effectively make his deck only 40-50 in size if they don't this. And even with a cut, those cards are still going to be around halfway through. Also you really should do a double cut instead.

Quick Cheat Story: Second FNM EVER, and I had lost all previous matches. (Didn't matter to me, I was there to learn the game, not to boss roll all of the other players.) It was the last match in the evening and I was paired against a blatant cheater. He was running some kind of blue/white enchant token deck and I was running black/green removal with haymakers. Dude won the first match due to me getting mana screwed. 2 lands for the entire first game. I won the second game, and we moved on to the third. Now remember this was my Second FNM EVER. After game 2 he just swapped decks to an aggro mono red for game 3, which at the time I didn't realize was a HUUUUGE no no. Either way we get into the game and I effectively stall out his aggro past turn 5 and his deck runs out of gas. I am getting ready to swing in for the KO and my first ever win, dude was completely tapped out of mana and had nothing on the field, this was my chance to take the remainder of his LPs, and out of no where, with no trigger or active effect on the field, dude untaps 2 of his land and throws a counter spell at my attacking creature. This blew my creature off of the battlefield and left me open for his next turn. Next turn, he summons this huge trample beater and took the win. I learned a couple of things from that experience; 1. NEVER assume your opponent has the same level of integrity as you. 2. When you want to call someone out for cheating, but don't want to be "That Guy" that calls everyone a cheater, question the opposing board state to have the opposing player explain how the interaction of their cards is doing what is being done. (All I had to do was ask what on his board state allowed him to untap 2 lands during the battle phase.) 3. When in doubt call a judge to ask questions and verify if the moves are legit. It's pretty scummy when players focus so much on getting the "W" that they forget that the game is supposed to be fun. Also, I wonder how many kids the dude effectively steamrolled with his shenanigans and nonsense. His win was more important to him than sportsmanship or community growth. What cheaters fail to realize is that they are contributing to the toxicity within the community in which they are a part of and they are creating a hostile environment for new players and children that are interested in getting into the game. No one wants to go back to a location that allows those types of plays and players and the participation at the LGS will diminish the longer players like that have a hold within their respective shops/communities.

My friend is such an idiot, he always puts his planeswalkers on the top and a couple of mana. He takes cards out of his graveyard without the right amount of mana and counters creatures with dispels 3 turns after they were played ;-;

well it is possible but you can only ONE riffle and keep it in staht "orderly" fashin and dont cut so ether most spells or lands are on top...however he stacked them first. the main problem is a perfect one is REALY hard and some cards stick together so is practically impossible. I personally dont play magic but i play other cardgames and i can defenatly imagine someone going out of his way to make the front of his lands and the back of his spells "stickier" so he dosnt have to stack them and it still happens...dont know how to manipulate sleeves tho.

Also, I love love LOVE to cut their deck in such a way to make sure I make their hand. Sure its random but you can really piss on some cheaters cheerios. And I never let their excuses get in the way of the game, if you need to go you drop from the game and I'll take my win.
