Way back in 1971, when I was a young boy, I found Mr. Corbett's book, "Man Eaters of Kumaon". I was fascinated back then and I am still captivated by the man's adventures. This beautiful video adds to the flavor of the book and the beauty of India.

A film put together from the Hi8 footage of a tourist, in the year 2000. Is it worth watching? You decide. The film is a tribute to the silent protectors of the tiger. It has been motivated by the belief that the Indian tiger has a better chance of survival when it is worth more alive than dead. The film makes a subtle statement about saving the tiger through Subedar Ali; not in so many words as from the obvious passion this mahout has for wildlife. The film has been screened at the Delhi International Film festival for short and animation films in 2001 and was also screened at the Y.B Chavan Auditorium, Mumbai in November 2002 as one of the films selected at the IDPA Awards function. The film has been telecast by Gyandarshan Channel of Indira Gandhi National Open University.

A great film and specially for me because I have frequented JCNP for many years. However a small mistake that I noticed was that the deer that was barking was not a Sambhar but rather a "Kakkad" or Barking Deer. Sambhar's dont make that kind of sound. Cheers!

Thanks Sahas for appreciating the film. I tend to agree with your observation that the sound is made by a barking deer. Thanks for making the observation.

That was a very nice film Susan, which I just watched having read about it on Twitter. It is very well made. Subedar Ali's experience was very scary, even to hear it. How the man faced the tiger and came out alive and is also able to narrate the experience is amazing. Thanks for the film.

I`m translated the Whole stories of Corbett in to Kannada. These stories are very popular in Kannada in name of HIMALAYADA NARABHAKSHAKAGALU ( the Man eaters of the Himalaya). This book is in TOP 10 for several years. Particularly Man eating leopard of Rudraprayag story was translated by K P Poornachandra Tejaswi.

Jim Corbett was a great man. He undoubtedly saved many hundreds of human lives. If you think about how he walked possibly thousands of miles in some of the toughest terrain and high elevations during his lifetime. These tigers and panthers he hunted were killers some killing over 400 people each. These big cats had been hunted for years and were almost impossible to find. The world's greatest wildlife preserve is named after the world's greatest hunter JIM CORBETT

'When he is exterminated ---- as exterminated he will be unless public opinion rallies to his support India will be the poorer for having lost the finest of her fauna', said Jim Corbett in his famous classic Man-eaters Of Kumaon. Actually tigers adorn the jungles as such all their species must be saved from extinction.

@SusanSharma-WildbytesTV
@SusanSharma-WildbytesTV 7 жыл бұрын
The background music was created by S.P Sunny of Mumbai specially for the documentary. The flute in the beginning of the film is by Aravinde Kumar, a street vendor of flutes. This piece was incorporated as part of the music produced mainly on a key board. The raag is Pahari Dhun.
