Great content and editing, would you consider doing such a video completely in slow Latvian with English subtitles? We would get so much more input that way, and especially learn how to explain ourselves! That's how I've learnt other languages, and quality material in Latvian , there's just very little available, thanks!

I loved that beautiful song you sang! What a weird presentation, but absolutely wonderful! I am really enjoying watching your videos about learning Latvian! Please continue to make them! 😀 They are fun and easily enjoyable! Thanks for the insightful and engaging content!

Thanks, the only one of these that I knew was "Putting down the spoon". Sample conversation "What are you doing?" "I am just putting down my spoon" (laughter) "Oh come on Andrew, the cheese salad isn't that bad".

As far as I remember "Gāja bojā" has a Livonian origin, not the other way around. In Livonian the word was "Pūoj" ("base, bottom"), so it was used in a sense, when someone drowned in the sea ("He went to the bottom (of the sea)") which we afterwards loaned literally into Latvian and from which we afterwards created verbs "Bojāt" and "Bojāties" (in a sense that something sank, therefore went bad.)

1:58 it's similar in Serbian - izdahnuti (the continuous form sounds even more similar - IZDISATI)

So creative and interesting! So white slippers are not a good gift? Had to play that Saule poem twice - beautiful.

Thank you for your kind comments! Well footwear is a gift-no-no in general if gifting to a spouse or bf/gf. But white slippers… it depends! Many people might not know this expression, but if they do, they might wonder :D

We use also in polish "kopnac w kalendarz" = to kick into a calendar, or "wachac kwiatki od spodu" = to smell little flowers from the bottom. I wonder how it would sound in latvian😅

My pet exploded? Latvians are so weird! I guess that’s why they are so lovable. By the way Anete, what did you do with the money your mother gave you for the singing lessons? I may have nightmares from listening to that song.

@@irregularLatvianAw. I’m sure you’re extremely talented on the kokle and that more than makes up for your inability to carry a tune while singing. It would be nice if you gave us a recital on the kokle sometime. I’m sure there are many of your fans that would also like to hear it. Please say you will!
