Thank you so much. I’m an older rider with spinal implants who have a group of ladies that I sometimes ride with & some who are 20+ yrs younger than me, & I don’t want to ride & need to be the old lady who needs to stop & rest. They say they understand, but they are out to have fun, & me knowing that I am the reason to keep them from fully enjoying themselves makes me feel worse. Yes, I must listen to my body, & riding by myself, no alone is still an awesome experience. TY

My wife is named Vanessa also. Unfortunately, she passed away on July 3rd. I understand how you feel about riding with younger riders. I hope that they are taking consideration for the older riders in the group and do not mind making those stops. They are probably thinking the same thing, but you know how the younger riders are, they don't want to appear to be one to slow the group down. They are probably wanting to stop more than you do. Please listen to your body. This "old man" does. " Ryde Strong, Ryde Safe, and Ryde to Ryde Another Day".

GREAT video!! Lots of great information for new riders. Here's a few tips of my own: Ask questions before going on a group ride. Will there be stops, if so, how many and when? What's the average age of the riders? I find SOME young riders are looking to impress one another and aren't safe. It took me riding with several groups to find the one that has similar riding style and similar interests, in terms of destinations. I, also love riding alone but do feel safer in numbers. Very important to listen to your body, and ride your ride! Be safe, feel good and keep riding Roaddog!! ps I love your voice, great for Vlogging.

You got it, the key is listen to your body. I am fortunate to find a group that values safety and is very communicative of the ride plan step by step. But there have been a few instances where I and a couple of friends have broken off from a ride waving good by to everyone else because we were either too tired or wanted to rest up a bit. The best part of group riding to me is making new connections and forming small number of riding partners of say 2 or 3 that have the same understanding as you and ride with them more often compared to a large group. That is what I do mostly. Thanks for the mention and always do what's best for you.

I hear ya. I've been on unorganized rides which were a nightmare. Little to no communication and when you have clubs participating from all over, it gets big and crazy. I ride with smaller groups, many of whom are retired. I lead small groups about 6/7 bikes and we do 3/4 days. I ensure we stop for a coffee break every 1.5 hrs or whenever someone needs a stop for whatever reason. I brief the group on the ride destination and stops and have the gpx file if they so desire. At the end of the day, I just want to make sure we have fun and we all return home safely to our families. Peace out

Combining comfort and safety, that's why I'm thinking of changing my Harley-Davidson Trike for a Spyder RT Limited. I took a test drive and my wife much prefers the Spyder. Me too by the way but I admit that I will miss the H-D sound. I rode H-D for several years, alone, and you know what? At 66 I realized that H-D owners didn't reflect my own individual style. Don't get me wrong, I'm not making a value judgment here, just that their style and my style don't match and I've realized that's why I always ride alone. 🤷‍♂️ All that to say that I agree with you, we have to find a group that looks like us. 😀 Thanks for your video.

I've always held to the philosophy that you should ride your ride. If you're in a group, ride your ride, not the groups ride. As you mentioned, some riders have years of riding experience, others may have only a few months saddle time under their belts. The very beginning of a group ride should pretty much tell you everything you need to know about how the ride is going to unfold. If that little guy on your shoulder whispers into your ear that this doesn't sound good, listen to him. Thanks for your honesty in sharing your experience.

Thank you for the video. I just took the beginner trike school 2 day class and we rode the Riker. We rode for about 4 hours off and on for the first half of the day and then had a class for about 4 hours with a test. On the second day we practiced for our skills demonstration ride and then rode 5 different circuits to graduate. Yes I had fun but about half way through the second day I was exhausted and my back was telling me that I had enough. I even took some Tylenol in the morning but it did not seem to be helping. I'm 73 and yes I passed the written and skills demonstration and received a motorcycle trike certificate to take to the DMV. @@roaddogvideos The trike was a Can-Am Ryker. I am assuming it was the base model with a 600cc engine. I have looked at spyders in my local dealer and he had 3 that were like new and used. Dave, I’m 70, with both neck and lower back problems. The Ryker and F3 both have riding positions that seem to inflame both areas. The RT away the answer for me, especially the 2020 and up design. I also follow alot of youtubers that you mentioned and watch alot of videos on here. I just want you to know you’re not alone in your thoughts. If we’re ever in the same ride again I’ll support you on taking breaks durring the ride, I’ll even bring it up to the group if you don’t feel comfortable doing it. Just dont give up on group rides, my wife and I have participated in a couple more since then and they went great, not too long without stopping and our leader organized them well. I hope you’re feeling back to 100% soon, it’s warming up, time to roll out !

@@briangibbsbd Thans for the comment Brian. We may have met at the restaurant. That was a fun event with a lot of great people and Spyders. I may have taken a photo of your group. It was brought to the attention of the group I rode with that caused the sciatica. Have not received an apology, which I did not expect to. It was definitely a learning experience. Next time I will listen to my body and if the ride is going to be two hours or more, make sure there will be some planned stops. Perhaps we will meet up at another event. Ride safe my friend!

Most Spyder group rides I’ve participated in have shown to not have any experience in group riding. They make it up as they go along. Need to learn how to do it. If there is no bike to bike communication then use hand signals to indicate a need to stop. The leader should explain the ride and ask if anyone would need to stop. msf-usa.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/AI4-pdf.pdf

The group I rode with when I had the issue supposedly had experience group riding. I ever rode with them before, but they belonged to a sister chapter. It was not a sanctioned ride. They had communications. I realized that I should have said something or signaled. It was a lesson learned. The group rides after that we’re great.
