To Live and Die in LA was one of my favorite 80's movies to watch on rented VHR tapes. Growing up on the east coast this was what I thought LA looked like. I now live in Southern California and have been to every location shot in the movie from Palmdale to San Luis Obipo to San Pedro and of course LA.

I also had a VHS copy that a father's friend gave to me. I watched it until I wore it out. RIP Darlanne Fluegel. I enjoyed her performance as William Peterson's informant girlfriend.

Very cool. You covered a lot of locations. One of my favorite 80's movies. I just watched it again 2 days ago and so you doing the locations is an amazing coincidence. I remember the first time watching the movie and i was shocked when Master's bodyguard shot Jimmy dead with a shotgun blast to the chest. I wasn't expecting that. That was so brutal! It kinda set the tone for the movie. Great upload. Thanks!!

It's also weird to see a cop going all psycho to avenge the demise of his partner. That also was part of the 'tone' of the movie. It gave me the creeps how Chance behaved... like exploiting his informant in many ways...causing massive traffic jams and horrible accidents, kidnapping a federal plain clothes officer to get his flash cash for the deal with Masters. I mean how dirty can a cop be ? They could've named the movie Bad Lieutenant 2.... 😂

Wanna convey a belated THANK YOU for going into great detail(s) in showing the locations and/or buildings that are now vs/ what they looked like during the movie. And insofar as movies go, "To Live And Die In LA" is not only one of my all-time favorite flicks, but it's also "criminally" underrated. IMO, the car chase scene is still the best in movie history.

I saw this film with my father the day it opened at the Mann National in Westwood. I loved it. This film also surprised me in the way events unfolded. I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen this Friedkin masterpiece from 1985. It's a great L.A. movie and a time capsule of the city in the mid-eighties. It's based on a novel by Gerald Petievich, a former Secret Service/Treasury agent who has written several good novels including The Sentinel made into a film with Michael Douglas and Money Men adapted as Boiling Point with Wesley Snipes and Dennis Hopper. But his best book is Earth Angels about an undercover cop from the LAPD's controversial CRASH unit taking down an East L.A. Gang. Absolutely badass novel. Brian DePalma should make it into a movie NOW.

Excellent video, Dude. Longtime Pasadena native. Useless trivia: The house that was Max Waxman's office was, around the time of filming, a chiropractor's office/home. The Union 76 gas station at Walnut and Los Robles (pronounced by non-Hispanic Pasadenans as "Las Robels" for some reason) went through a number of changes to become an Arco station which currently sells cash only gas (debit cards OK) at the lowest price in Pasadena. The guy who played Max Waxman, Christopher Allport, died, along with two others, in a southern California ski resort avalanche in 2008.
