Seriously, that melted menthol was POTENT!

I believe you. For future reference If you need a test bunny, I'll be your guinea pig. I have a super sensitive sense of smell and taste. I don't eat mushrooms because they only taste like dirt to me. There's stores I can't shop in just because of the Aroma. Victoria Secret. Seafood places, bath and body works. Anything near the laundry detergent, candles, or cleaners aisles. If there's a difference in potency. My taste buds will know. Yes I actually taste scents. I'm in the middle of some big projects, but hopefully it will be done by the end of May, and then, hint, hint, I'd be happy to buy and test out a special Mini samples collection of whatever you want to assemble including "misfits and others" - test out the granny nose for grins and giggles... LoL... How's the Jaw? I hope it healed well. Thanks for the recipe, video and information on steamers. Always fun to learn something new and see how they are made. 🤗

I'm sure somone already mentioned it. But I measure out the crystal and witch hazel and alcohol and set it in a jar and let them naturally Disolved. I shake a few hours before use and have it set aside as a master batch.

Oh I recently learned a trick that I must share with u! Adding the menthol crystals in a container & add alcohol &/or essential oils in it (in this case EO) & leave it for 24 hours & it'll dissolve! I tested & is no hoax lol. Idk if you knew this but I wanted to share😊 Hope it helps!

You are absolutely right about the potency of the melted menthol. It knocked me off my feet. I prefer the crushed method, thanks for sharing that. Otherwise I’d still be doing it that way. 😂❤️

I let the crystals dissolve in a little bit of rubbing alcohol. Takes about a half hour.

I'm recovering from covid (thank you daughter that works at Wal-Mart) and the shower steamers absolutely were my best friend for the first week when I couldn't breathe through the crusty snot lol. Congestion is my worst enemy, it makes me throw up and steamers helped break it up.

Those heart molds are the same ones I use for shower steamers! I love them.

It does loose potency heated. I brake crystals a little bit and let them dissolve in essential oils, in dark glass or metal bottle with a closed lid, over night. It seems to work stronger.

I was sitting next to my drying shower steamers when watching this and had an OMG! moment when I briefly thought I HAD smell-o-vision! Lol. I've only melted, but will try crushing.

I've done mine by melting the crystals in alcohol, still potent...and I worried about the crushed...but I'm going to try it now. I always thought the crystals would give out a freshness during the melt in the shower. Thank you!!!

Ooh these look so fun! I’ve never made bath bombs because my tub isn’t deep enough to sit in without some part of my body being above the water and cold (😑) but I could actually, like, USE these!

OH. MY. GOSH!! Total Dexter vibes on the thumbnail and extremely disappointed you didn't take advantage of the plastic and taped room for the "mess" of this recipe!! LOL ;D I'm sure you totally Dextered your sinuses on this one though! I don't even make soap (YET!) and I know all about the Level 9000 strength of menthol! WOW, you're a CHAMP!! Have a wonderful weekend Sweets!

@@DD47N1 Well, believe it or not... I now have a slew of people clamoring and asking me when the soaps I just made will be ready for purchase... just from posting pictures on FB and my FB profile is set to only friends and family; there's less than 300 people in my friends list. Most of which are mechanics or truck drivers. 😂 So... I just ran with it and now I have a side business. It's merely a side deal, because I work full time from home making darn good money... and it's not like I have someone else to make these soaps... it's all just me in my kitchen. 😁

@@DD47N1 Pretty much. But also, I am making soaps for my family too, because most soaps and body washes contain coconut oil or some other derivative... I can't use it, so I make my own now.

I have a tip on how to melt menthol cystals without heat yay .. add the crystals into your essential oils you are using for your recipe and let sit about 15/20 minutes and the menthol should be completely dissolved ..

I usually heat my oil alone. Then add my menthol to the warm (not hot) oil, cover dish with press & seal for several minutes and let the warm oil melt the menthol. Heating the menthol in microwave is way too intense for my lungs to handle.😵😵

These definitely seem like fun. I might try making them at some point. Maybe with my next order of supplies, I'll get some citric acid... that's the only thing I'm missing. One question though, and it may be dumb, because I'm pretty sure I know what your answer will be, but can you sub the oil with a different oil. . . . . . . . . . . . For the record, my guess as to the answer is ultimately yes, but to make sure that it has similar key fatty acids and overall properties.

I just melt mine down in alcohol overnight In a sealed jar 2/1 ratio. So no heat,, I feel like it would loose something in translation… where in the sealed jelly jar everything is contained.. but I could be wrong

I love and make your steamer recipe often! So thank you for sharing!! I have a question though on making a steamer strictly as a smelly good though. I have a friend who can not do the peppermint, eucalyptus or menthol. I have a fragrance that she loves and asked if I could make steamers with that. When I tried just subbing out the E.O’s for the scent and more epsom for the menthol, they did not unmold well at all…so I am using the crumbles. In a dish in my shower…..they smell great!! But curious on how to properly make this kind of steamer work for those who can’t do the original version. Thank you again for being you are sharing your wealth of information and experience. Also, if I want to send something your way…. Best place to find current mailing info since website is still in progress and I know you’ve made location changes.

My eyes were watering just thinking about the melted menthol lol. Just curious, I want to make a batch of these for myself and friends. But how best to package them to keep them from fizzing etc with the humidity. Like would I need to plastic wrap them first?

I'm sorry if this is a ridiculous question,lol. If you use coloring(you said lab?) Regardless, would you need to add Poly 80? Or is there not enough coloring to make a difference. I'm hoping to make these soon. TIA!!!😊
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 жыл бұрын
Hey! Poly 80 is really only needed when you want to disperse micas in a tub; not necessary in a steamer as it isn’t meant to color water. Have fun!

Just curious...what purpose does the Epson salt serve in a shower steamer?
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 жыл бұрын
Epsom salts help prolong the fizz of the steamer, and it is said that magnesium inhaled with the warm water can further help breathing problems. Whether or not that’s the case, I do like the prolonged fizz.
