To Salt, or Not to Salt? Discuss...

Short video on the use of Salt in my pond.
I try to keep my levels around 0.4% to 0.5% during the summer, and round 0.3% during the winter.
A lot of people say no to adding salt, but I prefer it in the pond.

Hiya, Great video. Thanks for sharing Keith.. I've been so tempted to use salt in the past but always bottled out at the salt ordering point... Maybe one day I'd give it a go. Not sure I I'd use it all year round but as an alternative to chemical use to start with. My Kactoily is good at recording Salinity so should be good to measure if I ever went for it..😉👍

I like the use of salt for specific purposes, but not a fan of year round salting. The main reason being is the adverse effects it can actually have on healthy Koi if used on a long term basis as it messes with the Kidney function in regulating the Osmosis system, Not to mention the fact that any parasites that are present will also regulate their own osmotic system to that of the water. Horses for courses, It's always going to be one of those touchy subjects.👍👍

Enjoyed the video, thanks! I used salt for the first time last year after some issues coming out of winter and it helped loads. I took it to 0.3% and have left it to drop away via water changes after that. I am considering doing the same now, no real issues but get the feeling it helps them coming out of winter.

Thanks for watching Simon 👍 That was the main reason for me increasing the salt levels, coming out of winter, although they've been at 18°C all the time with 0.2%. Now at 0.4%, it'll help them when the weather changes for the better. Hope you're well.
