Hey, even when you are busting someone's balls I learn something lol. I wasn't sure how "look ahead" actually worked in the mix. Now I know! Small look ahead time = louder more transients/slightly saturated mix, longer lookahead times = less transients/quieter mix. Thanks David!

I think the simple solution to this would be on fab filter to simply move the attack knob to the right side of the release knob indicating that it comes after the release.. or they can call it something like "transient makeup" or "post release attack"I suppose if you are an engineer you know this already but if you are a DYI type and indicator would help.

I don’t have this plugin and I never used it but, from what I understand, this “attack” is a sort of “delay”/“hold” (maybe those are not even correct definitions, especially “hold”)? I’m trying to think about the naming of the controls on the envelope generators avaible on synths for reference, especially the more advanced multistage ones (not your standard adsr), but I can’t find any inspiration for a clearer name than “attack”. “Attack” is not the greatest UI choice here indeed (and I say this as someone working in IT; when a lot of people gets something wrong and need to read the manual, maybe it needs some attention) but I have a really hard time at figuring out anything better. I’m confident that the Fabfilter guys thought a lot before opting for “attack”.

I think people are so in their own world with their own ideas about how these tools work. The other thing is people quite often don't trust KZbin content creators or are very quick to make comments without thing and feel no personal accountability because they're just a guy swiping up and down on their phone. Quick trick for everyone. EQing after ozone limiter can be cool. If you go into ozone setting and set eq to soft clipping you can do little peaks that can make things like snare, claps, percussion etc. pop out the mix in a unique way.

I don't use the Fab Filter product, but I appreciate the explanation of these counter-intuitive settings and the overall lesson: read the manual. BTW I hope we have evolved enough as a species not to judge each other on superficial things like hairstyle, clothes and tattoos. It's the content of the character that matters. And what a wonderful world we live in today that that I can learn mixing and mastering from people from all over the world.

That's not what I use a brick wall limiter for, I use it to add body to a kick. but hey , each to there own, sometimes I use it more like a clipper, but mostly, I use a clipper for that !

Limiters don't add anything. They just raise the volume. And distort badly if you push too much

Channel strip would have an attack time which will control the attack of the compressor tho'

@@mixbustv Of course, but in this case, it's the PSP InfiniStrip, which has separate modules for each effect. The buttons only control the parameters on their dedicated unit, so I would have guessed it does what you said. I could probably have a listen and see, but I haven't used it in ages, and don't have it on my computer any more. Either way, this was a fun video
