I had the pleasure, many years (decades) later of meeting both Mitch Miller (I was on a commercial with him) and Jane Meadows (at the dedication of the Steve Allen Theatre at the Center For Inquiry West in Hollywood) . Mitch was pleasant, but Jane was one of the most gracious people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting.

Delightful episode. To whomever runs this channel. THANK YOU for giving me a daily 23-25 minutes of fun & laughs to enjoy during my lunchtime. You are too generous, and while I don't post too often, I do watch everyday (for certain) & try to give a like to every episode. As always have a very pleasant Tuesday evening.

Jayne was always camera-ready. Catch her during the introductions making sure that every bit of jewelry she had on was in frame... good thing she wasn't wearing an anklet!!! LOL Tom was very jokey/schticky this time out.

It was great to have the legendary Mitch Miller on the panel. That Steve Allen was a lucky man.

The "WTF" look on the Baroness' face when Kitty asked her what an escutcheon with 16 quarterings is was precious. What she was asking has to do with heraldry. "Escutcheon" is another way to say the shield part of a coat of arms. "16 quarterings" means that the shield displays the designs of 16 different combined armorial shields (typically a shield would have many quarterings because a family/dynasty is showing a combined version of the different shields of families that married into it or of different territories in their possession). A "bar sinister" is a symbol put on someone's coat of arms to denote their being illegitimate.

The only Bar Sinister I know of was Simon Bar Sinister, from Underdog. 🤷‍♂️

@@lukeheaton5336 Guess I'm too mature to know Underdog, (though I sure have known a lot like that). But did you know that "sinister" is Latin for "left-sided", and "unlucky"? That was mean to the child in those days. And there are several tools made specifically for "lefties" to use.:)

As a lefty myself, I am well aware of tools made specifically for us. I used to shop at the Ned Flanders "Leftorium" until it closed. Wait, knowing who Underdog is makes me immature??

The panel got totally focused on the nobility factor of the Baroness. Seeing that the woman works two jobs that aren’t ‘high-falutin’ and didn’t know the hierarchy from king to baroness, it’s obvious she didn't have the upbringing of a noble.

How come Jayne Meadows has been on there 3 days in a row? and Bud in all 3 episodes, he introduced her as part of the panel. He didn't say "Welcome back" or "Nice to have you back." He just introduced her as part of the panel, and Polly was never mentioned either.

Anyone know what happened to one of the imposters: Lawrence Davidson, baritone Metropolitan Opera? I tried to find a biography. He lived in Great Neck, NY. I have relatives who lived there at the time. Found lots of recordings, and I saw a newspaper clip about him becoming a Cantor at a synagogue, but nothing more about him.

@watchman1178
@watchman1178 3 жыл бұрын
I had never noticed that until someone mentioned it in the comments section of another episode. Now I can't help but notice it everytime. LOL! I guess Bud must've had a bald spot in the back of his head. What's really intriguing is that the "covering" is darker than his real hair. Looks like they would've made it the same color. He had nice hair, but must've been missing some of it in the back.

No, it was the times and that’s how celebrities / people dressed. And that meant they dressed for evening attire and they were well groomed. That’s why many of us enjoy these episodes from the 50s and 60s. It was a different time and it’s long gone and in many ways that is a loss for our postmodern society.
