The Yankees lost to the Milwaukee Braves in the World Series that season. I find Ralph’s voice soft spoken and calming.

Kitty Carlisle in 1966 sang for the first time at the Metropolitan Opera. Her character in the Marx Brothers movie "A Night at the Opera" sang "Il Trovatore" with Allan Jones at the Met in 1935. Their finale duet was fantastic.

Her duet with Alan Jones of the song 'Alone' by the famous team of Freed & Brown was a HUGE hit and quite lovely. Many roll their eyes now at the romantic and musical interludes in the Marx comedies but in the 1930's audiences wanted comedy, great songs, dance numbers, romance and a story. It helped pace the Marx Brothers comedy nicely and made Night at the Opera their single greatest financial hit.

Ralph did a pretty good job but he is no Bud. You can always hear Kitty Carlisle laughing. She enjoys herself a lot on these shows. Thanks for the video.

I have always thought that Kitty Carlisle has the most adorable and disarming fake laugh. A most interesting lady.

The paths of Kitty Carlisle and Eaamon Andrews crossed as late as May 1963 when they both appeared on "What's My Line?" the night after Arlene Francis was nearly killed in an auto accident.

Nothing reveals how difficult a job is, or how well a person is doing it, than having them absent with someone else filling in. Game show hosting, an often parodied occupation, is not for everyone. For example, I'm still completely unable to watch Drew Carey on TPIR. The show died for me when he took over.

Bob Barker was the best host on a lot of shows. No one was or is better than him. Equal maybe but not better. The man is a legend. 97 years old now.

i thought ralph handled it well, people are being too hard on him. i can't find anything on eddie car as a yankee bat boy. yankee bat boy frank prudenti was on wml in 1960 and wrote a book about being the yankee batboy from 1956-1962 (in the title), which contradicts this persons claim. then anthony florio wrote a book about being the yankee batboy from 1962-64, and their was a tell all book by luis castillo about being a yankee bat boy from 1998-2005. there are several books by new york yankee bat boys. then there's eddie bennett, "the most famous mascot in the world". someone who experienced a lot of hardships in his life while becoming famous as a "lucky" batboy.

I don't know if you just wanted to write a comment or what because going down through this list, I didn't see ONE person who was hard on Ralph Bellamy (although, personally, I don't like him as a host)

Panelist substitutes for the host. Bellamy looks and sounds real uncomfortable. Henry Morgan on "I Got a Secret" did this sort of substitution on the notorious episode that supposedly got IGAS producer Allen Sherman fire. 3 months later, G-T tried this same substitute arrangement on "What's My Line?" with Bennett Cerf who was also real uncomfortable and who was irritable with Ernie Kovacs. Cerf was on hand when Kovac asked mystery guest Henry J Kaiser if he were Abraham Lincoln.

soulierinvestments Interesting to read a different perspective on this. I just agreed with the comment by ***** on this page that I thought Ralph did a pretty good job of it -- much better than Bennett did on WML.

I think Hy Gardner would have been the better choice as sub; He would have kept the mood light. I find Ralph Bellemy to be a bit stiff.

Eamonn should have been able to get the bat boy, right off. May 13, 1956 he and a bat boy form the Dodgers were on What's My Line, while Eamonn was a panelist.

I wonder what happened at the 1957 Miss Universe Pageant!?!
@savethetpc6406
@savethetpc6406 9 жыл бұрын
maremacd fromen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miss_Universe_1957: "Miss USA Disqualified- Miss USA 1957 Leona Gage (MD) was announced as a semi-finalist, but she was ejected from the pageant the day before the final after it was discovered that she was married and the mother of two young children; therefore Miss Argentina, Mónica Lamas, who had placed 16th in the preliminary, took over the vacated spot and Gage was stripped off her title as Miss USA and was replaced by Charlotte Sheffield. However, Sheffield was not able to compete due to the fact that the preliminary competition already took place with Gage competing in it, marking the first time that a Miss USA would not compete at Miss Universe. Sheffield would therefore compete at Miss World 1957 but was unplaced."

Zachary Dunlap-Tunnage Long-time NYC newspaperman hooked on with the Yanks just after WWII, ran "speakers bureau" which he arranged players for media guest appearances and after banquet speaking. He also fed players one-liners (many linked to Yogi) and wrote speeches. Was known as "VP in Charge of Kids Who Want to Shake Mickey and Yogi's Hand". Produced pre and post-game TV shows for game broadcasts. Also, took care of many things that Yanks PR guy Bob Fishel didn't want to deal with.

Too bad Kitty changed her mind on the lie detector operator, from #2 (the right one) to #1, based solely on the Sodium Pentothal question. She didn’t notice that he mispronounced Pentothal. He left the ‘h’ out of the last syllable, pronouncing it ‘tall’ rather than ‘thal’. Still on the lie detector guy, I wonder what was going on in Eamonn Andrews’ life at the time that he was so focused on women lying. Sounded very much like a personal agenda prompting his questions.

Ralph Bellamy is horrible as moderator, no sense of humor, and very stiff. Bud Collyer is the best and funniest, smartest and wittiest moderator, especially when compared to those who try to take his seat.
