Handel Weekend in Wardour Chapel, Wiltshire given in 2023 by Cherubim Chamber Choir & Orchestra,
conductor Harry Bradford.
DETTINGEN TE DEUM
To thee Cherubim & Seraphim continually do cry: holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabaoth - heaven and earth are full of thy glory.
This single passage from the Te Deum has been selected because of its reference to our tutelary deities. The whole work (HWV 283), celebrating the victory by the British over the French in June 1743, was commissioned Handel, and composed in under a fortnight in July. The first performance was in the Chapel Royal of St James’s Palace in November.
