I loved it! It was truly beautiful. I play and guitar, my boyfriend plays the flute, and our friends plays the piano so all we have to do is recruit my sister (that plays the Theremin) and we can play this song!!!

It looks like pitch is based on where the hand is placed. I would assume that with practice he could get the pitch perfect, but yes it does look more difficult because you only have one physical part of the instrument - your hands. With no resistance (like in guitar and flute) it is harder to control exactly where to place what controls tuning.

@dominic9961 Actually it's nothing at all like a sonar, but if you are thinking of a radar then you are close. The science of it isn't actually too complicated if you understand how electromagnetism works. Basically any current carrying conductor, in this case the antennae on the theremin generate a magnetic field. This field is affected by any object that moves into it, like how touching a radio antenna can affect its signal. A theremin converts this proximity into a pitch range.

No, a theremin is played differently from a laser harp. Theremins use capacitance and are completely analogue, laser harps use light to trigger digital notes via midi.
