So, I have a toaster oven and been toasting my bread about 2 days ago I said I don’t have butter. So, I got some olive oil and drenched my bread in oil and popped into the toaster oven. And oh my goodness so good.

I just tried this and was blown away! No butter needed and it's crispy. I may not ever use my toaster again!

Love it with peanut butter, love it with sardines and cherry tomatoes.

Oh peanut butter is a great idea! Agree on sardines and tomatoes. It’s also very great with brothy beans if you haven’t tried that yet!

I dont own a toaster. I was wondering if it can be made with a pan but without eggs. This is the first video I watched and I got my answer. Thanks!😉

Great video! BTW, I love your theme jingle, it almost made me laugh but really I just smiled like this 😊 I was tryna find a way to toast bread with a dry method. It's funny, I haven't used this method for toast but I take the same approach when toasting bread for a sandwich 🤷♀ I find that you can control your crunchiness by cooking the bread on a lower heat for longer. You've convinced me that this is prolly the superior way to toast bread so I'm gonna do this cuz I don't have counter space for a toaster and I really don't like appliances that only have one purpose.

I tried this today with sourdough bread, and it tasted like oily absorbed toast, with a bad flavor. Could I be using the wrong olive oil? I’d like to do this correctly to give it a fair shot before I decide I don’t like it. Please let me know what I’m doing wrong.
@ProbablyWorthSharing11 ай бұрын
Hey, my guess is that your temperature is too low. You want the oil close to its smoke point, it should be very fluid and shimmering - that’s roughly the indicator for around 375F. If it’s hot enough the bread should start to fry almost instantly. If the oil is not hot enough the bread will absorb the oil and be soggy instead of crisp, and taste oily instead of crispy. The bad taste could be your oil has gone rancid - this happens if your oil is open and a few months old. I usually buy smaller bottles of olive oil at a time for this reason. It could also be the opposite of what I said above, and if the oil was smoking very heavily then it’s too hot - past the smoke point the oil will taste plasticky (when oil exceeds its smoke point it polymerizes). I hope that helps.

Thanks I’ll give that a try, the oil is about 2 weeks old so should still be good. It’s the more yellow kind and says it’s supposed to be used to sauté. Hopefully it’ll still work

What kind of pan are you using?
@ProbablyWorthSharing27 күн бұрын
The pan in this video is a carbon steel pan, the model is called Shiba’s Pan. It’s really beautiful, light, and works well, but the handle gets very hot. knifetoronto.com/products/west-japan-tools-shibas-pan My daily driver pots and pans are the All Clad Copper Core stainless steel pans.

does normal vegetable oil taste ok?
@ProbablyWorthSharing27 күн бұрын
It will taste how the oil smells. You’ll still get the crispy bread taste, but it might not add any flavour.

WHAT ABOUT CANOLA OIL
@ProbablyWorthSharing4 ай бұрын
Sorry for my slow reply - most canola oil is highly refined ("RBD - refined, bleached, deodorized") and I would try to avoid RBD oils if you can (the chemical processing is not good for you). You can find cold pressed canola oil if you want to use it.
