My Goruck GR1 is almost 10 years old now and literally nothing on it has either broken or frayed, and I EDC and abuse it daily. It has been to many countries and states and has literally never let me down, ever. I've overloaded it, dragged it through the beach, forest, water, etc. The only thing to scar the bag ever, was when I used it for a shooting rest for my M14, and the muzzle blast scarred the edges. I bought it on sale back then for $240, in the rare Ranger Green colorway. Best equipment purchase I've ever made. Random people mention the bag to me all the time, even people that wouldn't normally be into EDC and rucking gear. I've had countless security guards, police officers, and military dudes point it out by name and say it's awesome. It actually gets me greenlights through security, because the security people know that a guy with a Goruck is probably not a bad guy. Employees especially mention it; I've had a security guy in a Harry Potter/Hogwarts wizard costume at Universal Studios, sheepishly asked me, "Whoa, is that a Goruck? Sweet bag!" Admittedly it took me out of the illusion of the Wizarding World, however.

We have a similar system. I use a 10L bullet though and found it has been more than enough. I recently outfitted my GoRuck bullet with two things, one a Peak Designs camera clip that has been the best thing for my Fuji x100s while hiking and I carry a 90degree light both of these always hang on my shoulder straps and I have found it doesn’t hurt the aesthetics plus it makes things highly functional. Just my mods. Great video.
@TobisTings5 жыл бұрын
Sounds awesome! I have been eyeballing that peak design clip for ever. Also great idea about that light. I use the olight H1R nova headlamp that I show in the video for that if I need it. Just clamp it on the molle on the shoulder straps. Works wonderfully 👌🏻

No patch on that Rucker? Excellent review. You certainly make the most of that space, though personally I enjoy the extra space and feel of the GR1 or the 25L Rucker. The GORUCK Black Friday sale doesn't hurt either.
@TobisTings5 жыл бұрын
haha, yes I am tempted by the black friday sales. The 20L is perfect for me for Everyday Carry, but I would still love to get the 26L GR1 as well as athe 34L GR2. Had I not just spend an ungodly amount of money on other stuff I would probably get a GR2 for an upcoming trip to the US.

Interesting GoRuck doesn't advertise the Rucker series as being able to carry a laptop, but it looks like it works with a 15in laptop just as well as the GR1.
@TobisTings5 жыл бұрын
The GR1 has that separate "bombproof" laptop compartment on the bag, which is probably more protective and can be accessed from the outside. Also that frees up the inside sleeve for other stuff (papers and such). While that is all good I didn't feel like it was worth an additional 100 USD or so and I don't regret my decision. The Rucker is an amazing backpack for EDC in my opinion :)

@Rangefindergeneral5 жыл бұрын
They are a bit like marmite. I love them, but I have always thought the X100 would be better with a 50mm equivelent lens. but they are light and give a bit more versatility to the camera. you do have to use the EVF tho as they block the OVF.

haha, yeah the Maxpedition Skinny pouch is awesome, but I love all of my maxpedition pouches. They make some quality stuff! And I agree about the Leathermann Free-line. Haven't had a chance to try them but from what I have seen its more of a gimmick and not really thought through. Also they are expensive af for what they offer ...

Love your video and can you tell me if the back of Rucker is too rigid/hard to carry on everyday basis?
@TobisTings4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And no, its really comfortable after a break in period. How long that break in period will last is up to how often you use it and how much weight you carry in it. For me it took roughly 2-3 weeks until it was fully broken in. Since then I haven't come across anything that rivals this for carry comfort.

I saw a Vanquest Ibex in your collection. How does the Vanquest Ibex compare with this Goruck?
@TobisTings5 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is an IBEX 26. It is something completely different compared to the Goruck. Even though it has only six liters more capacity it carrys a lot bigger, because the top of the backpack extends over the shoulder mount and it sticks out a lot further from your back. Also it has a more sophisticated carrying system, including some serious hip belts to transfer weight from your shoulders to your waist, whereas the Goruck was designed to carry all the weight high up on your shoulders and flat on the back (better center of gravity IMO). The IBEX has tons of pockets and internal organisation and you can pack a lot more than you would expect from a 26L backpack. In terms of robustness I don't know since have not tested the IBEX as much as the Goruck, but both are definately sturdy and very well made. The Goruck is obviously made completely out of 1000D cordura whereas the IBEX is made partially of 500D (as far as i know) in order to safe weight. I don't think either of these would fail under normal use though. The IBEX is what I would choose for long distance hiking, overnight camping or an emergency backpack. The Goruck is my choice for EDC and Rucking for medium distances (up to 15k).

Hi, I just had your video recommended to me by KZbin, great bag and contents. Just a question, I thought that in Germany you can't carry a one hand opening blade 'on your person', but also in your backpack where you can't immediately reach for it? Here in Belgium there is absolutely no problem with a leatherman wave on your belt because it's a multitool and not a tactical locking blade, at least when you don't go to a court, a nighclub, a soccer match etc...
@TobisTings4 жыл бұрын
Hi, the law is kind of vague here when it comes to what is and is not ok to carry and a lot is dependend on circumstances. For the most part the same rules you mentioned apply. Don't bring a Leatherman to a court room or night club, but realistically speaking nobody cares if you got one when you are out and about minding your own business. The laws surrounding this topic are a bit more complicated though so you might still end up in a legal grey area unless you have a "socially acceptable reason" to carry that tool. Personally I have never been stopped and searched to begin with and also thats not something that can be done without reason (there are exceptions though). But even if it came to that you could definately argue that you are not carrying it "ready to access" when its in a bag in your backpack. With that being said, if you get searched and something that falls in this grey area pops up, the officers might disagree with you, confiscate it and fine you. You can of course challenge that fine in a legal battle but that is stressfull and annoying and you might end up losing anyway. So, even though I never had any troubles with anything I carry and probably never will, I tend to go with items for my EDC that I know I won't have any trouble with.
@steviejanssen4 жыл бұрын
@@TobisTings Right. Just to give another example, I've gotten twice in a situation where all persons inside a bar were checked and searched, my leatherman surge hanging on my belt didn't give any problem. The old spyderco tenacious in my bag was subject of discussion but it passed, but my tactical pen was confiscated because the glassbreaker was seen as an impact weapon. It finally all depends on your appearance, the interpretation of the law by the acting authority and the situation you're in.

@TobisTings5 жыл бұрын
That's kind of hard to tell since I use it on a regular basis, but if it has been sitting for a while (3-6 weeks), mainly because I switched to another powerbank, at least according to ita display, it has never lost any charge whatsoever. The display might be off though...

@TobisTings5 жыл бұрын
It can be used to charge lithium ion batteries via a Micro-USB Port and was included in the box of one of my flashlights. Its great for on the go charging since its so small and lightweight, but at home I use something more sophisticated with a display to show the current voltage etc.
@kevhunt805 жыл бұрын

Just looked it up. It was included in the box of my "Sofirn SP32A V2.0". Sadly I don't know if it can be bought seperately, sry. The Nitecore UM10 would be a good and still fairly small alternative. Its superior in every way but slightly bigger and heavier. I did get one for my father last year and he loves it. Hope that helps
