Tobruk is Coming the HLL…What Other Maps Should They Bring?

Refreshing to hear someone talk about the British, Canadian and commonwealth forces efforts in Normandy. I’d like to see a map about the battle of Walcheren Causeway, depicted in the movie The Forgotten Battle. I know a D-Day Veteran who was a sniper in the RM Commandos, he said it was worse than D-Day.

Easy (to choose): Berlin. Not so easy to design and all. Enlisted did a great job designing Berlin. It would be iconic. Other than that, Pacific is requested a lot and would make a lot of players happy. But I'd rather see, say, Crete, with the introduction of a Paratroopers squad mechanic (and the ability to set up garrisons) replacing airhead command.

Problem with Arnhem is that the British would have no tanks... Something in market garden would be good though, but I think people hate bridge maps already. (I don't!)

@@JackChurchill101 Well, the Germans hardly had any tanks in most battles on the Western front either but here we are, up to our asses in Panthers and Tigers on every damn map. Also, why do the Germans get to use air power and artillery on the same level as the Allies when in reality they were outgunned all the damn time? My point is that if the Germans get air and artillery support and as many tanks as the allies on any maps from 1944/1945 the Brits can get tanks in Arnhem.

Problem with the British on Normandy is the commonwealth forces would mostly have bolt actions and have to face a lot of machine guns and semi-autos

Fair point, but at the same time, they deal with that on Driel already, I wouldn’t be opposed to them having a handful of M1 Garands though

A potential battle where you could make two different maps would be the Battle of Monte Cassino. Over 75 Thousand Allied and German casualties would occur and considering the level of the Operation, you had British, American, and French Troops used in the battle.

Having a Pacific Theatre map would just be *horrible* in my opinion. Think about it. Stereotypically, the pacific is just full of jungle forests. Now, we already have a map which is basically just a forest (Hürtgen forest, who would have thought) and I'm yet to meet a player who likes it. It's terrible! But if the devs would manage to fix this issue, there would be an another, unfixable issue. The Japanese Army. They lacked AT guns, proper tanks (they mainly used 40mm cannons which was very outdated) and they basically had no smg(the type 100 was very rare). So the american side would be a lot stronger. Adding the Pacific Theatre would be a nightmare. But, I'd give my left nut to see Hungarian, Romanian, Italian soldiers in game. And even though their army was weak, just like the Japanese, they were able to get proper equipment from the germans. So this wouldn't be an issue. And for a map with these factions, one option would be Budapest, like you said, or Uman in 1941 where the Axis encircled 200 000 soviet soldiers, or Voronezh in 1942-43 where the soviets destroyed the Hungarian 2nd, and the Italian 8th army. (It was so succesful, that in Hungary, we call this event the Don Disaster) Long story short, we need new factions for the Axis, but not Japan. This is my opinion, pls don't crucify me. Anyways, this turned out pretty long, if You've read it, thank you :)

I like forest maps, it's very easy to get kills. The trick is to be constantly looking around you and move slowly. I must admit the thick foliage makes it a bit hard to aim at long distances.

Your opinion on the Pacific Theater to HLL is just like mine. It would be way too unfair for the people who are playing as the Japanese faction.

I meant to get back to this earlier, sorry about that, I’m not going to be ruthless, just giving my take😂 So yes, Japanese small arms, AT weapons, and tanks were not the best compared to the Allies…to put it lightly. It’s why I’m not advocating for a Iwo Jima or Okinawa like some people want, it would be too unbalanced. Guadalcanal on the other hand was more of a “fair fight.” US marines with M1903 bolt action rifles and only a handful of M1 Garands and Thompsons. The US had M3A1 and M2A4 light tanks at the battle with only a slim handful of Matilda heavy tanks from commonwealth forces. Versus the Japanese with Arisaka bolt action rifles and Ha-Go and Ka-Mi light tanks. It wouldn’t be perfect, but something could be worked out in my opinion. This should be a one off map, only other area I could see that would be balanced and historically accurate is the Burma front in India. But besides yes I do agree the pacific front isn’t the best idea. But Guadalcanal would be the best option to include that front. For the Italian and other minor axis countries, the aid provided to them really wasn’t that much, at least compared to the US and UK lend lease equipment to their fellow Allies. Hungary for reference was really the only minor axis country that got really any actual good aid on the Eastern Front (the got Pz.4s Panthers, hell even Tigers as examples.) but besides that, aid to these countries weren’t that good. I think you could add some weapons from these nations to maybe a “German Army Group South” sub-faction, but I don’t think they could stand alone as faction, especially against a 1944/1945 USSR. I don’t mind the long message, it was a decent read. I’d rather someone explain their reasoning and have a thoughtful discussion then to sling insults and such. So i appreciate this bud

Considering 4 years of the six year war was Germany Vs Soviets, it's a real crime that there's only three Soviet maps. The soviets have the best range of infantry (ignoring terrible MGs) and I love playing them for the change of pace. Certainly Berlin, I think should be their next focus.

There will never be new sub factions in this game again, this community is filled with casuals that would prefer skins as part of an existing faction and call it a “new faction” instead of an actual fleshed out faction. This community for some odd reason doesn’t like map specific factions and skins, I don’t think the devs should listen to these people.

the British 8th army faction is a decent example, it doesn’t need to have major changes from the main faction it is being a sub faction for. Just change some of the weapons/tanks around, give it a division name and there you go.

I would counter that, because the game needs the recon, the commander, the engineers and support, etc... But, if they could work out how to give double fuel or triple fuel, on open maps which simply makes infantry redundant, then people would know it's the tank mode. I would like it. Maps like Kursk for example rarely have more than a few tanks each side.

we have enough Europe post 44 maps Ive been playing ww2 games since 2003 Im so beyond sick of D day maps. I want France in 1940 or just keep pumping out africa maps. Italian fronts too.

There are plenty of missed opportunities for 1944-45 maps. Warsaw, Budapest, Breslau, Köln, The Kurland Pocket. But i respect your opinion, France in 1944 and the Battle of the Bulge is quite boring now. Monte Cassino or Anzio would be amazing in Italy.
