@@theabandonedhunter3604 as long as your expectations are right, and you're not too fussy about what veg you get then you'll be fine with it. At £3.29 it's around a third of the price of the eat-in meal. But it's less food and you can't choose it!

The offered meat portion is awful. Making themselves a nice little profit on what is essentially waste. Doesn’t seem £3’s worth. These definitely favor the companies using them, not the consumer purchasing them. I downloaded the app during the lockdowns and deleted it during the lockdowns, these reviews always confirm it’s best left deleted. 😊

@@EdsCanineAcademy I think it's definitely a mixed bag (excuse the pun!)... Some places have been consistently good, such as Greggs. Others are very hit and miss. This one was ok, although as you say, the meat portion wasn't great.

The greggs magic bags are incredible in my area, around £2.50 and I get around £20 worth of sausage rolls, pasties and sandwiches every time.

Wow, that’s brilliant. Round my way the Greggs bags are £3.15 I think, and I normally expect to get around £10-£12 worth (although I do sometimes get luckier than that!)

I got over £18 (once I found a price list online so I knew how much things cost) worth of stuff from a local Costa yesterday for £3.50. There's a Greggs even closer, so I might try them next.

With everything considered, that was not bad and certainly not the worst you have had from our friend Toby. For me, the absence of gravy was the biggest let down. I know it is quick and easy to warm up a bit of Bisto but it would not be the same as the original gravy from Toby. I have to defend the hardened yorkies and veg a little bit, because it was mainly due to reheating, but I also acknowledge that reheating was completely unavoidable. So far in the world of TGTG Greggs is winning by miles!!!

Here's a top tip for you Greeno... You need to buy yourself some Knorr Beef Stock Pots... You can buy a pack of 8 x 28g for £2.80... Just stir in one Knorr Stock Pot to your regular Bisto Beef Gravy... And it's concentrated flavour intensifies the punchy Beefy taste of your Gravy my friend... I was a little sceptical about trying them at first... But trust me pal... You won't regret it... Before you add the Knorr Stock Pot... Pour out a small cup of your regular Bisto Beef Gravy... Now that's a great idea. I normally have some of those stock pots kicking around, beef and chicken mostly, they're great for boosting the flavour of soups, pie fillings etc. - didn't think about whacking it in the gravy though, but I will next time!

I love a magic bag, but the carvery ones have always been a no from me! Just don’t like the thought of left over veg and meat that’s been sat there for hours and touched and prodded by a load of people 😂😂😂 Think that’s my ocd kicking in but NOT for me Greeno! ❤

Yeah, I have a similar thought process to you about that, the hotel breakfast ones too. But as your brave correspondent I push that to the back of my mind and plough on (while making sure that everything is THOROUGHLY reheated!)

I'm torn mate. £3.29 isn't too bad value wise, especially if you live close to a Toby Carvery (I know you don't!), but if I am cooking for more than one person I reckon it is cheaper to cook from scratch. And I make gravy as a matter of course...!!

I got one of these the other day 'meat - roast' for £3.50. Mine contained 2x tiny pieces of pork and 1x tiny slither of chicken, 3x roast potatoes and the rest was standard colliflower (Not with cheese), sweetcorn, runnerbeans and peas and a tiny bit of gravy. I wasnt impressed as it was mostly veg which is pretty cheap, i didnt feel i was getting a bargain just at best the going rate. Flavour wise id say it was about the same as a microwave meal.

That doesn’t sound terribly good. Everyone knows that when you go to Toby you pile up the plate a bit, so the TGTG box should at least be full! Did you not even get a Yorkshire pudding?

I've never had a Toby magic bag (or anyone else's magic bag for that matter). From reading the comments it seems a bit 'hit or miss'. In fairness though that didn't look too bad for the price. The Yorkshire looked a bit the worse for wear but I don't suppose you can expect much as it was left overnight. Also think it's a bit unlikely that they didn't even have enough gravy left to provide a pot. As a new viewer I'd like to say that I really enjoy your posts. I've got a lot to go through 🙂🙂

@@GerwynDavies-vy7gk The TGTG bags can be hit and miss - it's a little bit of trial and error to find the good ones in your area I think. My experiences with Toby haven't been the best, but others like Greggs are always solid !

I never buy the meat ones anymore, not worth the extra £1. I can happily enjoy roast veg on their own. My Toby hasn't done gravy in a separate container for ages. Maybe the extra packaging was too expensive.I have had gravy poured over the veg. I don't get a Toby bag either, they just hand the container to me with the Yorkshire in a paper bag. Not a problem as I always bring an insulated bag. Sometimes I don't get a Yorkshire pudding, it's just luck of the draw. I eat mine on the night but my Toby is 3 miles away so can do a quick reheat and I also usually make some granule gravy. Interesting the top was just cling film. I had a TGTG breakfast the other day and instead of the black plastic it was a round cardboard container like you find at food kiosks.

Yeah I would be tempted with the veggie bag and have that by itself. Or knock up a chicken breast ahead of time and reheat it sliced in the gravy. You probably are right about the gravy and having to pay for the packaging. Interesting how companies are even finding ways to save money on what is essentially their waste!

Yes, that's a very fair assessment Lile. It was filling, if not the tastiest roast dinner ever. Cheaper and healthier than a ready meal of the same kind of price. So it serves its purpose!

Pardon the pun, but it seems these Toby ones can be a real mixed bag… Some people reporting fabulous bags, other saying it’s little better than pig food. I guess it depends on the restaurant, how busy they’ve been, and the staff putting the bag together (I am convinced sometimes they keep the better bits to eat themselves 😂)

I'm sorry but you're judging this food like it's freshly made. It's a day old leftovers. The Yorkshire if you'd sprinkled water on covered with paper towel and microwaved for 30 secs it would have come back to life. You can't criticise food that should have been eaten yesterday. The whole idea of the bags is to stop food waste. If you want spectacular food then cook it yourselves or go to the restaurant and pay the price. It's all leftovers. It's not going to be 100% quality. But 24hrs later it's going to be less than best especially things that have been kept hot for 4hrs. Really do think you didn't get the point of the bag.

That’s fair enough, in some respects. Of course a lot of things will deteriorate overnight. But given the fact I didn’t get home until around 10.30 after picking the bag up (and after a long enough drive that I would have had to reheat it all anyway) I wasn’t ever gonna eat it straight away. Just trying to show people what kind of things are available if they use the app.
