American here. We often shop at M & S when in London because we stay for 1-2 weeks at a time and save money by eating from grocery stores or small shops versus restaurants, plus it’s healthier. We enjoy the cultural experience of shopping there too. Food is 10-30% higher here and in the US it’s often taxed 6-10%, varies by state. Items like those bakery goods, cheese trays, etc. are convenient for tourists. Crossing my fingers that your new Labor government will work to lower your energy costs! Thanks for taking us shopping, Hannah!!

Living in the US now, I have found that when you challenge someone to tell you what about British food is not good, they can’t because they have either never been or they went for a few days and ate in crap tourist traps serving “Americanized” food. The reputation Americans have about British food comes from American soldiers who were there during and immediately after WWII. There was severe rationing for TEN YEARS after the war ended. People had nothing to eat and had to make do. Classic British food (roast beef, lamb, cheeses, etc.) is some of the best in the world!

I spent 6 weeks in the the UK last year and M&S was my go to for food!! The variety is insane! We do not have anything like it in Australia. The supermarkets are starting to get more 'on the go' food but nothing like over there. I loved just grabbing a wrap & fruit for lunch, sitting in a park eating them and continuing on with my exploring. I didn't find the prices unreasonable for the quality of the food. I loved the chicken ceaser wraps but I was sick of them after 6 weeks 😂by eating light and doing all the walking around England and Scotland, I lost 6kg! Surprised by the origin of some of the fruit you picked up too! Great video, I miss London 😍 PS: please be careful with your phone on the street! Mine was stolen on Oxford street 😭

I really enjoy your shopping videos. My sister and I were in London last September and visited the places you show in your videos in central London. A difference that I noticed between the food in London compared to where I live in Canada is that the serving sizes are smaller. For instance, for a pack of buns, the buns would be packaged in 8 or 12 buns per package. Also, the meat packages show 4 servings of meat, whereas in Canada it would be at least 8 servings. Honestly, in my opinion, we don't need such big serving sizes. Your cost of 42 pounds would be about 75 Canadian dollars. I absolutely fell in love with London and hope to visit again soon. Thanks for your videos!

Im a Brit over in Massachusetts for one more year and yes the food prices are 40-60% higher and of a far lower quality. When we are shopping we spend most of the time in the supermarket looking at the ingredients and putting it back. High fructose syrup, GMO, dangerous food colouring, hormone injected beef, bleach washed chicken, trans fats and farmed salmon feed with artificial colouring to give the fish a brighter red colour. All banned in UK & EU. As for the bread its full or sugar, why? We mostly buy organic but that puts the price up even more so that basket you brought if you could find it all would be at least $120 and lower quality. Considering the Uk is out of the single market so the costs of bringing in Eu imports is higher now but still much lower than the States and they are self sufficient in most of their produce. It's just a rip off but. Lastly the packaging on most food looks as though it's been designed in the 1950's and never updated. Only one more year!!

Hang in there 💪. The UK and EU have much stringent laws around ingredients in food and farming practices. I'm always thankful that I don't live in the USA.

I'm in Washington state (USA) and the costs of pears per pound at our local grocery store is around $2 (so roughly $1 per pear). So to me that pack of 3 pears for under 2 pounds seems like a great deal! 😊 And I must say your produce looks so good (fresh) ... some of the produce you see in our local stores look so gross! 🤢

Pancakes are ludicrously easy to make. I did them all the time as a child in the '70s. What completely jogged my noggin was packets of "pancake mix" in the shops. It just didn't make any sense - packets of flour labelled as "pancake mix" and costing 1000% more?

@@LeeJohn70 No. I live on my own now - instead of pancake mix I just whisk together 1 egg, 50g flour - a food cupboard staple - and 150ml milk (like I would have to do with the premade mix anyway).

I loved this! We need M&S here in the U.S. What a great store! There are so many things that I would definitely buy. Those chocolate pancakes would be so tempting. I’m super impressed with the quality of the fruit. Those strawberries looked absolutely amazing- like they were ready for a photo shoot. The variety of choices for ready to go meals were really terrific! And yes, I don’t buy raspberries either because they just seem to get “fluffy” too quickly. Thank you so much for this wonderful vlog!

OMG, as I'm prepping tea, peeling potatoes and chopping veg. and as our supermarket here in our rural town in Victoria Australia gets all the end of the run veggies that droop when you pick them up. This vlog made me so envious that I thought how scrumptious and unique and convenient (albeit the excess plastic) that I don't know wether I fancy our tea tonight. So enjoyed this vlog as I do all.

Good Afternoon, Hannah, I enjoyed watching your KZbin video! It is definitely a helpful video to tourists who are not aware of the range of groceries offered at M and S, Many years ago when I visited the UK I would shop at the Food Hall at M and S instead of having a sit-in meal at a restaurant or a pub, Thank-you for the video and I look forward to watching next weeks KZbin videos, Alister Ian Hoult, Carrying Place, Ontario, Canada.

Having been to the Beverly Hills Erewhon many times- It's nothing like M&S Food Hall (which I shop at 4 visits a year). Erewhon has no holiday spirit such as Christmas decor and treats. I shop at this M&S because I find it so inexpensive compared to American food shops. I buy the Erewhon smoothies for 18.00. My friend purchased the ingredients at Erewhon for a pizza. The total was 150.00! I've purchased oxygen infused water at erewhon for 20.00. That being said my utility bill for electricity is typically 60.00 a month even in the winter with heat. Now I'm craving the M&S smoked salmon sandwich. so good and so simple!

I miss Marks & Spencer... it was a real treat when we lived in Ireland to go to Galway (closest to us) and do some shopping at Marks & Sparks. Since moving back to California I have fallen in love with Sprouts - but they don't have the variety of ready made foods that M&S do. Great video Hannah!

Oh I loved this! I have lived in Portugal for 32 years but prior to that I always got my food shop from M&S (working long hours, no time to prepare/cook food). I was very surprised at the prices - they seemed quite affordable in comparison to here. Yes, people do say how expensive food has become in Portugal and I live just outside the main tourist town of Albufeira which doesn’t help. I have been widowed for sometime so am still inclined to go for the ready prepared food such as salads, olives etc. - I really can’t be having washing up a load of dishes just for one person. 🙄 Thank you for the video, I used to have an office just by the Pantheon M&S in Oxford Street. Happy memories. ❤
