This is the most heartfelt song I’ve ever heard as a songwriter myself. It literally brought tears to my eyes and brought me to my knees. I watched the movie the other night, and as soon as I heard this song, I loved it and knew I had to find out who sang it. I felt it was "Springsteen-esque" in it's writing. I was a little surprised to see it was sung by Toby Keith, but I immediately told myself, "well shit, Toby's done it again".

As my age climbs this song resonates with me. I've lost some good, good friends who let the old man in and he took'em out early. Depression, alcoholism, you name it, Toby's song about Clint could take on so many storylines and that is what makes good lyrics in a song great. My bet is lots of people less colorful than Clint and Toby will play this song at the end of their lives. It's that powerful.
