But I always get strange looks from my race and other races when my phone rings Luke Bryan. Guess they assume since your black stick with your own kind. My husband used to really like this song and he showed it to me and anytime we heard it or watched this video we would get a little teary-eyed that's for sure. This video will really make you feel for that man, and what a lot of men go through probably in a divorce like that... It's gotta be incredibly hard. I can't even imagine. Without your wife, without your precious children, only visiting with them, and your sweet dog or any other animals you had together... And to see that your wife has moved on, It's gotta be such a heartbreaker... So I feel for men across the country going through that for sure... I have an interesting perspective on this song. My wife’s first husband turned into an alcoholic who physically abused her and their two children. Eventually, it went way too far. He was arrested, placed under a restraining order and my wife divorced him. She kept the house and was awarded sole custody of her sons. Two years later, she met me, and we got married a year later. I sold my place and moved in with them. Her ex got help for his issues and the court eventually granted him supervised visitation with his sons. He would come over to the house and see them. I always wondered if he was thinking the same things that the protagonist mentions in this song…

I couldn't listen to this song for a lot of years. I swore it was about me, as every word and phrase in the story actually seemed to be reflecting our break up and divorce. I remember the curiosity that coaxed me into driving past the house in the beginning. After seeing his car in the driveway, that curiosity was forever quenched. 26 years later, we all get along pretty peacefully. Oddly, though, when I occasionally hear this song I still feel that twinge and ache in my gut and in my heart. Thankfully, it's much fainter now. Scars heal in time - but they're still scars forever. Eventually you just have to get up, shake it off, and drive on when life happens, I guess....
