I was introduced to your channel with the review of this Bother machine. I don't get to say this often, but you are a very gifted teacher. You carried through each step so calmly and never missed a beat. I love how you explained everything as if I was sitting there watching you. Though I have some experience sewing, there is always so much to learn, So. I will be watching more of your videos for sure. I keep thinking you would be an excellent teacher in an actual beginners class (not on YTube), they would learn so much from you.

I had a Brother machine for 40 years and I called it my workhorse. I thought it was time for a change, bought a different brand. Disappointed. Since I sew a great deal of fleece, I took a look at Brother machines again, this time heavy duty. I purchased one from Amazon and then looked for a video to help me understand it. I came across you and instantly saw that I could learn from you. Two things: Are you a Packer fan? And you DO have a thread cutter! :}

Here is my opinion of the Brother ST150HDH: I made 7 button up shirts with this machine. This machine has trouble in tight areas that contain several layers of fabric. For example sewing a hem that goes through a flat felled seem will be a trouble spot. Another area that this machine has trouble is the ends of where a shirt collar attaches to the bodice and the ends where cuffs attach to the sleeves. For fabric below 5oz per yard the machine generally works ok except for the trouble I mentioned above. I also made a heavier chambray shirt. For this the machine also generally worked ok, but it messed up a seem that I had to go over again, but eventually fixed it. I suggest if you are seriously into sewing. Use the Brother ST150HDH primarily for button holes and zig zag stitches. For your straight stitch get an industrial Juki DDL 8700. The Juki 8700 is only $799 and it has servo motor that is larger than the Brother ST150HDH.
@TockCustom3 жыл бұрын
I support this comment for sure. I would recommend switching to a smaller needle for those problem areas, but an entry level Juki can easily fill that gap if people are into having multiple machines 😀
@JohnDoe-bf1fw3 жыл бұрын
@@TockCustom Thanks, I'll try switching to a smaller needle on the problem areas. I have been using 110/18 for everything. I plan on getting the industrial Juki in the near future. I want make things like jean jackets. Happy Sewing, Rob

Great tutorial/review. I haven't sewn anything in a couple of decades and recently out of necessity I needed to make some masks for my family and I. So I busted out the old sewing machine (it is very basic and quite old but a good one to learn on - Kenmore 385). I had to shake off the rust but as soon as I became comfortable it was so much fun and so rewarding. My five year old daughter didn't know her dad could sew and as soon as she saw me at the machine she wanted doll sheet sets, pillows, a cape, etc.. I found your channel, subscribed, and watched a couple of videos and saw this series on the Brother machine. Anyway long story short I ordered a Brother ST150HDH today from the Brother website. I figured it would be a good all around workhorse machine. Hopefully it will get here soon. In the meantime I look forward to binge watching your videos - thanks and keep it up.

Own many machines. The new ones are fantastic: threader, thread cutter, etc. discovered Brother. Did most of my sewing on an Elna Super bought in 70’s, still my favorite. But now you can easily embroider and Brother is bang for buck and easy to learn using. Most machines are now made in the far east.regarding sewing through leather check needle type and thread weight. Thanks. The one that I just purchased is the LX3817. Basically, I just wanted to be able to do my own alterations. And the 83.18 dollar price at Walmart, including tax, was STILL a lot less than the price that tailor shops wanted to charge, for altering a bunch of work uniforms. But the fact that you can sew LEATHER with these, is impressive. Because I am into knife making. And every knife needs a leather sheaf. Keep up the good work!

I've been extremely impressed with this since I got it, like... I couldn't actually believe it did what it did. I did another stress test last week, and it did like 26 layers of canvas the second time :)

Does this machine have a left, right or center position or is a fixed position? What is the amperage of this machine?

Hi. Love your teaching style. Thank you for taking us on a tour of this machine. I am down to two choices, this Brother or a Singer HD 4452. Now that a year plus has passed, is this machine still working well and would you feel confident in recommending it still?
@TockCustom3 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, but yes, I've been using this machine for about a year and a half and it's still running like new. Only oiled it about 3 times too, and it's still super smooth 😀

i really appreciate your videos . i bought a st150hdh because of the videos . i can fumble through what i need to for basic straps but trying to improve , when i do a box stitch on webbing the top looks fine but the other side is a mess . why is that underside bunching up so much ? which setting can i play with to make this more presentable?

How do you properly adjust the tension. I have a heavy duty brother machine that I got for making nylon straps. But no matter how I adjust the tension I tend to always get a birds nest on the bottom. Most of the time I am only doing two layers of strap and occasionally three.
@TockCustom5 жыл бұрын
First let me just say that I've gotten enough comments on this to actually go ahead a make a video for it, so I'll probably do that this week. I just need to find my tiny screwdriver :) Second - There are two tension settings in most machines. The most obvious one is on top, with a wheel that says "Tension" and adjusts the Top-Thread tension only. However, there is a way to adjust the tension of the bobbin thread independently, which is not as obvious. So when you get the 'birds nest' of fabric, that usually means your bobbin tension has become too loose, and will not have enough grip on the backside of your material. You need to remove the seam allowance plate, take out the small harness that the bobbin goes into, and tighten a very small screw until you have your desired tension. It's not difficult, but its also not a commonly known fact about sewing machines. If you absolutely cannot figure it out, please let me know... because I plan on having a very short video up about this soon. Thank you so much for your comment! Have a great weekend :)

I have a Brother 1000 which I have had stored away for awhile and took it out to let a friend use it for her daughter. I have it treaded properly and have the bobbin wound and in properly but I keep getting an E1 every time I start to sew. I have it set for just regular straight sewing. Please help. Thank You.

I'm really sorry, but I'm not familiar with that particular machine at all. E1 might be "Presser foot being up", but not all machines have the same error codes. Hope you can figure it out!

Can this machine also be used as a light duty/regular sewing machine? So, could this replace my basic regular machine and then also just be able to do heavy duty?

I am thinking of getting this machine. Do you have to hold down the backstitch button the whole time or if you press it once will it back stitch a little? Thanks 😁
@TockCustom4 жыл бұрын
You do have to hold it while backstitching, but only for a short moment as you only need to do a couple stitches for a proper backstitch. You'll get the hang of it fast :)
