I love cashew, in Argentina we called "castañas de cajú", they are extremely delicious!
Interestingly in Sri Lanka where this lady is from, cashew is called 'kaju' in their language. Maybe the word was picked up from Portuguese when they had colonised Sri Lanka in the 1500s.

A very informative video on how cashews are collected, cracked open, soaked and used for cooking. I got to know that the fruit can be eaten like unripe mango, with a dash of salt, only after watching this video. The cashew rice and the other two side dishes, all look so appetising. The only disappointment is that you all did not sit together at the table to eat. I love to see you and your children and the elderly member, sit together to enjoy your meal. Hope and pray that the situation in Sri Lanka would eventually improve under the new Prime Minister's leadership. May God bless All Sri Lankan with unity, peace and prosperity. All the best to you and your family dear. Stay safe and blessed. With lots of love to you and your beautiful children.😍💕💕💕🙏

Dining at the table is colonial practice, while eating on benches, floor, mat or outdoors is more authentic to the traditional village lifestyle, and cooler too imo.
@nuraishah11842 жыл бұрын
@@moonlithappinessIt is also Asian culture to sit together and eat. Reasons being firstly in the villages, the people being poor shared their food, so they sat together. Secondly, they were served by the main member, the mother who served every one equally. Thirdly, because they lived in small huts and had to sit together. The Japanese, Chinese, Siamese, Malays, Indians, Africans and even in remote places, all sit together to eat, just to name a few. Usually I watch her videos and had seen her eating with her children at the table. They are sitting outside the main house, so there is no reason for them to feel warm, when there is fresh breeze outside. I merely wrote because I felt, it would be a bit of discomfort for the elderly member to hold the plate with one hand and eat with the other, when she could have sat comfortably at the table. Any way no hard feelings for writing your point of view.
@moonlithappiness2 жыл бұрын
@@nuraishah1184 I think folks eating together is quite universal! That's alright I understand your worry now, let me explain. At many homes here, they typically eat holding the plate in their hand, and don't sit at the table even if there is one lol. My elderly grandma would do this and my parents still do. In social settings like Sinhalese funerals, alms givings and other major family events, it's customary to cook a lot of food and invite everyone you know to lunch/dinner. There aren't tables, just rows of chairs lined up, and everyone eats balancing their plates on their hand. These are pretty heavy ceramic plates, but people are quite used to it. So I think this elderly lady is also used to it or is comfortable with it. If she was uncomfortable or if it was hard for her hand, I'm sure she would have sat at the table, so don't worry. 😊

Dining at a table is both colonial and western practice. As an Indian in Jamaica I don't even own a dining table sitting on the floor or in a chair with legs folded eating with hands is satisfying and awesome. Could eat some of that cashew rice and chicken dish now. Yummy. Love from Jamaica 🇯🇲

Hello Anoma! Wow, you blew me away with these dishes, they look so amazing and delicious...you definitely had my mouth watering. ; ) The devilled cashew chicken looked to be like a sweet and spicy combination with the tamarind....yummy! You know how much I love your fluffy rice anyway and then to make cashew rice...you had my stomach growling too. Lol : ) I really enjoyed seeing the fresh cashew apple and nut right off the tree, that was a first for me. Your "expertise" and "knowledge" of the ingredients you cook with is amazing. People might not know that there's a toxic oil around the cashew shell that can cause rashes etc or be poisonous and that the nut in its "raw" state can be poisonous as well. We'll leave that to the experts like you. : ) It's such a joy to watch you cook! I'm adding these dishes to my all time favorites list. I know your mother enjoyed every delicious bite! Tell the kids "hello" for me and y'all have a wonderful day. Big ((Hugs)) and Love from Texas!! xoxo : )
