Was news to me too, another old fart. Lucky 10k eh? As for keywords. Don't even try to comment on anything political, 50% of your comments just disappear like a fart in the Sahara. I'm just waiting for the day when complaining about it flags your comment for removal...

Don’t feel bad, that’s one of the many recently made-up origin stories for words/phrases that have been popularized by the internet, but it’s not historically accurate. The slang “gun” for biceps originated with early baseball and referred to a strong and accurate throwing arm. Reference Oxford English Dictionary, their online commentary “From battistas to baseball players: the revision of ‘gun’” delves into the ways the word “gun” has been applied over the years. So it was initially a baseball reference (which makes sense, as they are throwing and aiming a projectile), then broadened to mean powerful arms in general.

The earliest quote the OED has is 1973 "Guns, the biceps and triceps part of the arm. (Where potential firepower lies.)" M. Andrews & P. T. Owens, Black Language iii. 79. Andrews and Owens then write "See FIRE ON" which they define as "To swing on somebody with your fists." The example quote is “That cat called me a punk and I FIRED ON him.”
