A few years ago, readers of Prog Magazine voted on the greatest musician of all time. Chris Squire of Yes came in at 11th, Rick Wakeman of Yes is 4th. I expected Jimi Hendrix to come out on top, but he came in 2nd. Voted the greatest musician in the history of all music is Neil Peart of Rush. I thought about that for 5 days and couldn't think of anyone else as the greatest musician of all time. Not even Hendrix.

As has been said a million times in amazing vids Neal peart is in, “he’s ur favorite drummer’s favorite drummer”, which would be the case with Danny Kerry of tool in regards to Neal peart….the day Neal died the saying that went around was “ok…every single drummer in the world just moved up one place in the rankings”, lol…I loved that, it made it easier to bear the horrible news.
@vincentvancraig5 ай бұрын
Also, you have the original greatness & then the greatness that comes after & builds on that greatness which the rush drumming to tool drumming would be an example of, but without standing on the shoulders of giants what would have happened? Would the next, or second generation of greatness even happened?, point is the credit has to be given to the seniority, u have to give OG mf’er his due, lol….anyway, great reaction.

I believe Neil is the fastest, most precise drummer that ever lived. And there are a million of them, and debate can be made. I can’t play. I know how to make noise on a set, nobody would call it music. This guy pulls it strait up into an art form. I don’t know if it’s true, but it was said he had straps so he could belt himself to a revolving chair, to play the entire set.

The Who's drummer, Keith Moon and Zepplin's Jon Bonham were GOAT's in their own perspective but there is something different, special about Pearts dedication and techniques. I mean, don't blink when he starts with a drum roll left to right and finishes with smashing symbols .. you'll miss it. That's how fast his hands are moving .. Crikey! The drums are an extension of Neil as was the guitar to Stevie Ray Vaughan. There will never be another two like them in our lifetime. That was a very interesting comment you made - did three great musicians find each other, or did three good musicians push each other to be great? Probably the latter if we’re being honest? Alex and Geddy were childhood school mates. They formed a band and actually had a different drummer at first. Music was much more basic. Neil joined later as drummer. They were all three music nerds. They all three continually worked at their craft throughout their long careers. They all three loved to experiment with song structures and timing changes. They all three pushed each other and got better and better - disregarding record company demands to make a ‘hit’ song - but rather, just create the best music they wanted to try and make! Integrity intact! They became the best (or at least in conversation with any of the greats) at their individual instruments, because of this process, their natural abilities, and because they were just three guys in the band and had to work hard to create a full intricate sound scape!

Prog Magazine readers voted Neil Peart the greatest musician in all music history. Number 2 is Jimi Hendrix.

Should really check out “Leave That Thing Alone” from their Rush in Rio concert. They really showed their musical talent in that video. You won’t be disappointed.

Amazing live! Great concert. Thankful to have seen!

Their studio is in the middle of the Canadian woods. So erethreal. Mean riffs from Alex, insane drumming from Neil who has the largest drum ensemble in rock history and the enigmatic synthesizer of Geddy, who compliments the instrumental cirque with his ardent palpable vocals. Uh-huh you got the band called Rush, now you'll never forget them.

Yes, Neil had the largest kit that was actually used fully musically rather than as a "look at the size of my kit" s-d-e thing.

Percussionist Neil Peart is definitely one of progs greatest drummers. But he's also one of rocks deepest lyricist too. You got to check out "Xanadu" from their "Exit Stage Left" video concert and you'll know you have truly witnessed greatness! Bring some popcorn and a full bowl to smoke:)🔥🔥🔥🔥

For anyone who hasn’t seen it you need to watch their rock and roll halls of fame acceptance speech. Alex’s part was exceptional
Rock and Roll did not have a place in my life before this song. Fall 1981 it did!!!

Did you ever see the movie Pulp Fiction? There’s a scene where Vincent, John Travolta’s character, opens a very special briefcase to check its contents, and his face is bathed in a golden light. He is momentarily speechless. Transfixed. Jules, Samuel Jackson’s character, asks him, “we good?” Vincent, still dumbfounded, snaps to, and affirms that yes, we are indeed, good. Opening that briefcase is like discovering Rush’s music. To be bathed in the light of that trio’s tapestry of talent, is breathtaking at its core. I look forward to you diving in to the maelstrom of melody and genius that is Rush. To hear this band for the first time again? I ENVY YOUR EARS. 👂 🎶🎼🎵🎸🥁🎹

This is Rush's best song. Good call Polo. Great song to highlight the amazing percussion, bass, lead guitar and vocals, along with the keyboards. Canadian bands are the best: Rush, The Guess Who, Neil Young, The Tragically Hip and so on.

Neil Peart had often been described as “ your favorite drummer’s favorite drummer “. Danny Carey, Mike Portnoy, Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Stewart Copeland of The Police among many others have revered Neil Peart and most attended RUSH’s final concert in L.A. in 2015.

I've been listening to Rush for over 40 years. These 3 guys were the perfect storm. All with the same ambition to perform at the highest level of perfection and without ego or selfishness. Tom Sawyer has always been and always will be a song to be reckoned with from Rush but their catalog is so deep the most scoff at the idea of exploring the depths of their musicianship. Probably one of the most under appreciated bands of all time.

Quick fact: Neil attended Berkeley College of Music and was actually had dual citizenship.

Welcome to the greatest band ever created! Their catalog is vast and varied. I'm sure you'll also love "Subdivisions", "The Camera Eye", "YYZ: Live in Rio", La Via Strangiato", "Limelight" and "Ghost of a Chance". Enjoy!

Polo, Neil Peart never wanted to be in the spotlight, most times he wouldn’t sign autographs at all. Not because he was mean, he was shy. The best drummer ever was💔🇨🇦. Listen to “Limelight” that Neil wrote about the topic, listen to the lyrics🥰🇨🇦
