Tom I am going to tell you something. When I first saw you on Outdoors WTMorgans, I thought c'mon how interesting is pouring concrete going to get? I have to admit, thanks to your personality, and congenial approach to things, I absolutely love your channel. That's the earmark that separates the men from the boys, and that is how friendly, and easy going you are. No hard sell, just down to earth commentary, like a friend. It's a pleasure to see your videos, keep up the great work.

I lend my voice of strong support for what @Bob Feeser has said here. Now, for many more days/months/years, we get to watch boatloads of boards come off of Tom's new WoodMizer. What a terrific "bond" we viewers get to witness when Mike and Tom are working together to provide top-notch viewing! Now, Tom....here's a challenge! Can you get your wife to come out and help with offloading the boards, etc., like Melissa does with Mike?? We are watching!!! 🙂

What a Saturday morning video!! Starting with Mike and Tom setting up a new mill PROPERLY! Then Mr. Wizard showing his blade lubricant secret formula, Paul Bunyan getting rid of Ole Blue cutting lumber and Norm Abram preparing, in his mind, his 1st project already!!😁😁😁. What is it about getting a new toy, yes I said toy😊, that just gets a grown man giddy with anticipation?? These are the times that keep us young, aren't they Tom?? Do you plan on putting some kind of roof or cover over the mill? The NEW lumber storage building of course😁. I'm sure you know and Mike re-iterated that you'll need to do some chain saw work to those behemoth maple logs to get them even close to fitting your mill. Watching this brings back some great memories of when I would have my own logs cut into lumber. I got to admit that I was a real stickler for only the best logs I could get. I usually had my lumber quarter cut a lot of the time for stability plus I just liked the look in cabinets and most furniture I built. When do you plan on getting the new dry kiln installed??😉😉. I could go on all day, but I'll stop. I know I chat too much, but this is going to be so much fun for you in the coming months. Be safe, don't rush and enjoy!!

Congrats with your sawmill Tom! I remember when we got our first one 26 years ago now they are so much more advanced, now we have 3 on the homestead all in perfect working condition to this day! Take care of it and it will last a very long time. We sharpen our own blades and do them during our Alaskan long winters... we cut allot of timber for our family owned and run operation. At the start I did allot of the sawing now my children and grandchildren do most of the "hard labor"! Its good to see them living and giving their utmost to the builds around our many self made shops, greenhouses, our lodge, our MANY houses and many cabins, barns, our mine operations, our lumber drying kilns, our firewood bunker, enclosed pens, (for our livestock and poultry during our long winters) our dock on our lake and the boathouse extension and our moose enclosures for milking and berthing, all on our 5 generational homestead which was first started back in1927! Its good to excel at one thin its more rewarding to branch out to other endeavors that bring goals of a shared experience of self/group independence. We have a VERY LARGE family all living, learning, breathing, growing, populating, building for that goal of independence. There are very few things my 8 children and their spouses, their children and their spouses and now their children! We are just one homestead of many in our neck of the wood and most are just as devoted to our way of life that we call life! Family, Faith, Freedom Always...

Very cool story thank you very much for sharing. I may have to reach out to you for some advice.
@stupiddems9422 Жыл бұрын
@@Concretewiththehauses I am old and sometimes I am even at a loss in what I do...this is the biggest reason we have so many diverse children, and grandchildren! The wife and I gave them the basics and they each have excelled in THEIR own aspects of life here on our shared homestead. it seems crowded when you try to write down every persons name in our huge 4 generational family and their spouses and even some of the spouses parents and brothers and sisters who have joined with us. All bring knowledge and skills that do nothing but add to our collective pool of independence ... If I don't have a clue about something I just holler and get the answer within minutes! So advice is just that shared knowledge by many different sources I am not to much into concrete (most of what I have learned is from shows on the internet like your shows. Almost everything we build on is actual foundational rock. So you are the person I would recommend to others for your expertise and advise. When I served for 24 years in the Navy (Vietnam era) I was a Seabee our moto in the Division I was in was "We build We fight!" My last rank before I retired was CW03. We built bigger and better than ANY other armed force in the world in my day... Family, Faith, Freedom Always... PS sorry bout the rants its how we were ALSO in my day...FFFA

This is gonna go great with Tom's woodworking hobby! Imagine what it would cost to buy (8) 4/4 by 8" by 9' oak boards at the lumber yard. Tom is gonna have as much hardwood as his heart desires! That oak slab wood (cut offs) will be good for a fire pit. Now Mike needs to school him on strickering, stacking and drying his lumber.

Running the mill is just like any other machine. In time, you will not only become mentally expert but also you'll feel every movement, right or wrong, good or bad. Exciting video. I can see you having a lot of fun with that.

Something to think about. I just checked Home Depot. A 1x12x12 what they call white wood, probably some sort of pine, is $40. So every time you make a cut once you have your cant you just saved yourself 20 to 40 depending on the length and width of your board. Now if you get 6 to 10 boards from a cant, the math works out pretty good.
