Today is World Cancer Day (Stage 4 Cancer Vlog)

February 4th is World Cancer Day, and so I decided to make it about me and share my feelings as I get close to my 6 year cancerversary. I was diagnosed with stage 3c metastatic melanoma in 2018 and had a stage 4 recurrence in 2023, and if I've learned anything, it's that cancer is different for everyone.
Thus, having a World Cancer Day is a great way to share our individual experiences so that people in different situations can see how nuanced cancer is, and that it's a human experience without many prescriptive solutions to the non-treatment portion of it.
Also, excuse the potato footage at the end - we're in a storm and the power went out while I was filming.

Hi Mike My day was great got to see my granddaughter today she turned 2 . I was tired i had an injection Friday of Zometa for my bones , but still managed a great weekend , i needed to rest for a few hours but finished the day strong lol Another 2 point win . You mentioned your support from family and friends , im so lucky to have the same . What is really to watch and digest is people going through this cancer fight alone , during my chemo sessions that really bothered me and the human interaction is so important . Great video , i watch a few of Tom McDonalds music videos to me they are very helpful . Cancer , Ghost ,Stronger version ,Fighter . The song cancer starts off perhaps a little controversial but the message is real . Never thought i would like that kind of music at 61 but im a huge fan Great video Thanks Carmen

Hey Mike-----2/4 was also "Thank your mail carrier Day!" (I was a mailman for 30+ years) Odd that it was on a Sunday, when mail carriers don't work. Luckily, my cancer happened after I retired. For me, the best(?) thing about cancer is the community you become a part of, from your oncology team to concerned family and friends to people like you. I think Groucho Marx said, "I would never join a club that would have me for a member." Cancer gives you no choice.

This makes me smile to see :) I’m not an expert on the science behind cancer treatment, and everyone reacts differently to their own diagnosis/environment, but I’m very sure that talking about it helps.
