I had no idea that Maria and Oprah were such good friends; I always admired both greatly. For Oprah, I thought there was only Gail.

Beautiful! My best friend and I have reached our 41 year mark of friendship. Seeing this gives me the guts to invite him on a weekend getaway and TALK. We do the typical guy thing. A look, a grunt, a bro hug. But never talk about our friendship. This has inspired me to reach out and say hey let's make space and fill it with conversation, meaning conversation. Thank you Ms. Kotb.

That would be sooo awesome. It's so unfortunate how our society and prescribed gender norms, however unwittingly, construct barriers for straight cis-men to cultivate a sincere, honest and emotionally substantive friendships with one another. This isn't to say we don't see these kinds of deep friendships in men. They do exist, however disparate the rate may be between women and the LGBT community.

I absolutely agree! As a nurse Practitioner, everyone needs an advocate when they are in the hospital. It is vital when someone is not in a position to speak for themself or think clearly to even make the right decision.

Maria, that "bringing a cup of coffee to you in the morning" was something that I learned/received during my time living in the UK, staying with girlfriends (they brought a cup of tea, of course!) and then we would all sit in bed and greet the day and talk! WONDERFUL and so nurturing!

I have never heard anyone else admit what Maria felt about her moms passing . I was always afraid, my entire life, as long as I can remember that my mom would die. It was a fear that became my companion because she was always ill. I only admitted that feeling to her housekeeper after she died. I talked to my mom every single day! I didn't think I would survive her passing, but I did. Gratefully, I can still feel her love guiding me. Thank you Maria for being so transparent and sharing ❤. It made me feel not so alone.

I loved this so much. No matter if we have money or not, we all experience pain. I have always loved Oprah deeply, as I share her pain of growing up with such difficulty. I never knew Maria, growing up as a Kennedy, with so much money, never felt cherished or had someone bring her a cup of coffee, her stories made me cry. This was a beautiful conversation with 3 amazing, powerful, heart felt women.

This algorithm really can read one's mind... and listens to me all day I think..... I needed to watch this interview. I don't do too much Oprah these days, but when I do, it's always profound. I'm turning 60 next June, and I find that I'm changing big time. I'm mellow but firm. I don't argue my point, I simply state it and that's it. Whatever the next person has to say I agree to disagree and move on. I think it's because one is detaching oneself from worldly things and preparing to take a couple of steps closer to God, which is ultimately the purpose of this life.

I was such a people pleaser and helper and did so much for others and burned myself out and still suffering and I wish that I would have had a supportive friendship like this. I was the supportive person for everyone else and then when I needed it I had no one that would help me so although I am struggling in many ways it has also been a huge lesson. Its true what you said about woman deserving a rest because we are raised to be caregivers and put ourselves on the back burner and I can't even work and I use to love working but need to make money. I have many things that I am grateful to God for and it takes time to grow from the pain but I want it over with lol I spent so much money helping family and friends and now have nothing for retirement because we think that we can do it until health issues creep up. Such a blessing to hear this show and also the song.

This is a wonderful conversation. I felt as if I was sitting in the room with all three of you. I feel as a 57 year old woman that it's absolutely time to be grown women and have difficult (and loving) conversations with our friends and family. It's time to make the space and keep it real. I find that every time I have a real conversation with a friend it's well received and they are grateful as am I. Thank you and Dare on.

I love Maria's accent, especially when she says " you ", all drawn out with about 3 syllables. So Cape Cod, she sounds like her uncles that were Kennedys. Such a large family, with high expectations for each other and all the children. The Irish Catholics evidently believe in having large amounts of children. This is a great interview and Hoda does a fabulous job here. Thanks Hoda

Exactly my own sentiments as a retiree myself. “Finally the boss of me. Finally able to spend time with the people I love, nothing else to prove. Anything you do you choose to do it because it pleases you. You have nothing to prove because you have proved it before”. So inspiring. Honestly no person should depart this world without giving him or herself an opportunity to experience the retirement phase of life. It’s such a beautiful phase. All our hard work and success without a phase of retirement to cap it seems to me like a life shortchange. And these women, in this interview, have simply nurtured that feeling in me.
