More from Todd: There are metallic liners inside the ikbs and metal liners for the stop pin. I would not recommend to people that they try to make scales of their own, it simply will not work like the knife does as it comes from me. All the parts are mated to each other.

Iv taken mine apart several times and its very simple to take down, just be careful of the ikbs balls. I suggest taking it apart on a towel and you wont loose a thing. Iv also found that the Bodega operates most smoothly without lube on the ikbs iv tried many different lubes and running it dry gives the smoothest action.

I love the matte look of this knife, I only wish it still had the cracked ice finish on the pocket clip and back spacer, I think that visually it would look really good having the "bling" up against the greys, and blacks. However, I am guessing that treatment would push the price out of its current range.Great vid as always my friend!, I hope all is well

I actually LOVE the utilitarian look of the FG Bodega. And with it being in the $500 range my wife might actually let me get my grail knife. Sure, it may not be a full custom, but it's STILL a Bodega. Thank you for the great comparison video!

Some important notes I'd like to pass on from some messages that Todd and I shared tonight: Grind on Ti bodega is lower and allows for the logo to fit in that space. The new higher grind necessitates the logo trailing down onto the grind. The logo is placed in house. As for the texture, well it is the first style and I was going for the bolster look. I was trying to give the customer something extra with two textured look to offer more.

Great review Jim as always. I love my FG Bodega and like you said I bought mine as a guilt free user and that is exactly the rule it fills in my day to day carry of the knife. The only reason i never bought a full Ti one is for fear of scratching up that beautiful satin finished blade and bead blasted Ti.

I am thinking about getting my first midtech knife. My highest end knife so far is a Mircotech Socom Elite which I have an extreme amount of pride in owning. You however have turned me on to the higher end midtechs and customs. I have stepped up from like you said in levels and farely soon should be making the next step and get a FG Bodega with a multi grind or maybe a regular Bodega.

The only reason I can come up with for the checkering is to get a firm grip when flipping the knife, but it really isn't necessary. Would look much better with different finish.

I notice that theapostlep pointed out the hollow blade grind on the field grade he looked at was all over the place. Where the custom was spot on. His take seemed to be that the custom was unparalleled quality and implementation, where the field grade was so bad it wasn't worth having at any price. For those comparing these I think it's worth viewing his observations.
@darkstar156m11 жыл бұрын
Jim. It looks like the grind on Ur bodega doesn't go is far back or as far up as the field grade. Yours looks a little lower on the grind or maybe just a slightly longer grind on the field grade. If your blade was identical to the loaner begg, I think the logos would be identical.

As for the handle pattern on the FG, I agree completely with you, its just not very attractive. On mine I took some 2000 grit sand paper and just knocked off the sharp points on the portion of the handle near the pivot, i just found it irritating on the skin but its perfect now and hasnt changed in appearance.
@mikehughes482411 жыл бұрын
As always, another great video. Thanks for the insight. I think that if the line pattern on the butt end ( like you mentioned ) where to carry through the entire length of the handle it would be much better. However I think that the line pattern should be opposite angles coming from each end and converge in the middle with a kind of cross hatched texture in the middle for a better grip. Again thanks for your time. Mike...

This is a strange construction for IKBS. First time i see ikbs on G10 scales. I wonder if bearings run directly on G10 and how it will age. Not my stuff anyway. Faux Bolster looks ugly. Great vids Jim

Note that I did forget to mention that the FG has a different type of grind. It is a mainly machine ground blade with a much higher bevel line that's more down-to-business and easy to get done, while the regular Bodega is a hand ground blade with a bit more flair (with it's "swoopiness" at the top of the bevel), so the differences aren't just in the refined finishing, but the process of the grinding as well.
@JimSkeltonKnives11 жыл бұрын
Exactly. I put this in the description as well as additional notes, and also made a part two to this video talking about that :-) LOL
@experimentjon11 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, the G10 is hideous. I was hoping you'd mention that. I have no idea why they made it with that pattern. (No idea about the functionality.)

I'm going to w8 for the CF Field Grade Bodega, i think it might be a winner bth, hope its not alot more expensive, maybe 600? But i have to blame Jim for addicting me to knives... first i just watch the videos, but then u start to CRAVE them. Just started my collection, only got a Bastinelli BBR2 and a CRKT M16, but already w8ting for a Kwayback Mid-Tech, a Olamic Wayfarer, Poltergeist 3905Flipper, trying to get my hands on a Yuna Hard 1, a Will Moon MK6... does it ever stop? Great video as I look to add the Bodega to my top 5 knives. Did you cut your hand right under your pointer finder at 21:58 as you slid the blade across your hand? It looked like you did right before the blade covered that part.
@benarmstrong647810 жыл бұрын
Bladhq just listed Bodega Field Grade knives starting at $695, with most coming it at $750. That's a lot of cash for a "field grade" knife. Looks like Todd is capitalizing on his fame. $750 seems about right for the regular version with all the bells and whistles, not the stripped down version.
@drumrboy8011 жыл бұрын
Gotta be honest, unless you're a caveman or a complete noob that doesn't know how ikbs works, it's not that complicated to work with. A great majority of my collection has ikbs and I've switched them all out to ceramic bearings.. I've yet to lose a bearing. My only concern with the field grade is if it has a washer in between the bearings and the g10. I had a mikel willumsen custom that ran ikbs straight on the g10 and eventually the bearings wore a groove in the g10...

Jim I'm always chasing my balls all over the place anyways soo....anyways I'm trying to find out some info on my bodega it's kinda like that black one but my scale doesn't have the checkered bolster part, and it has the pivot plate shape cut into the g10 but it has jimping on the spine and no fluted blade. I heard that it may be hand ground but idk. I'm not sure the difference in a field grade and a g10 bodega

Man, I really love this knife, but id love it a lot more at 650. I'm sure it's amazing but i'm just not at a point in my collecting, no customs, where i can justify 700 plus on a midtech.
@JimSkeltonKnives10 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of really awesome choices on midtechs between $450 and $600 right now. Southard Avo, Graham Razel SS3, De Villiers Butcher to name a few. But bear in mind, each are priced accordingly. The Bodega FG has MANY hours of hand work in each one that the others do not, hence the price difference. Just like the full Ti Bodega has about 45 hours of hand work in them, justifying their $850-$1050 original price tags.
@John_BP10 жыл бұрын
Jim Skelton That makes sense, 3 months ago I thought spending 200 on a knife was ridiculous. I've got an ADV Butcher on the way and I'm supper excited as it's my first mid tech. Do you think there's any chance you could get your hands on the new mini for a guest blade episode? I really like the look of the Razel but without the Zircati, it just doesn't do it for me. I'm also looking at BB and Curtiss, I just cant justify the secondary market prices.
