This interviewer is fantastic. Clever and funny, perfect in front of a crowd, and is one of few people to interview a filmmaker that actually talks like he watches films and enjoys filmmaking. Within a couple of minutes, this interview is very comfortable and we're already getting a great read on Charles Melton's performance in the film. I'm so frequently let down by these sorts of interviews, where the rigidity and awkwardness rarely allows for any insight. This interview is such a breath of fresh air, good job to all involved

VELVET GOLDMINE is criminally underrared. My favorite film of all time because no matter how many times I watch it… I can quote it … I am still transported to the world Todd Haynes created and built through his astonishing craft of filmmaking. This is an eternal gift that he has given to those of us that recieve and understand his films. Love you Todd.

Who is The Cackler that has invaded the ambient audio of all Q+As/critic events. A director can’t even make an observation without The Cackler bursting into uproarious lafter, as if they had understood the joke best.

Imagine if the film was made about a 36 year old man having sex with a 13 year old girl. And then director talking about how complex desire is. And the movie getting such good reviews :)

I agree the “complexity of desire” is absolutely irrelevant here. I wouldnt even utter that phrase in these cases. It’s the equivalent of pondering the complexity of desire in pedophiles…. Like who gives a s$&t. From a psychological standpoint, sure, it’s puzzling and leads to all kinds of fascinating studies and whatnot (as well as possible causes, such as child abusers often having been victims of abuse themselves as children); so in that sense, I would refer to this as the complexity of psychology. But yes at the end of the day, complex or not, a pedophile who acts on their special psychological issue commits a crime that deserves all the punishment from the law possible. Having said that, if you do watch the movie, it does NOT shy away from exploring this disturbing real-life case and above all the manipulation/grooming and consequent destruction of the victim. It is truly heart wrenching and well made film. In my opinion it did not posit ANY moral ambivalence on this topic at all, it was quite clear who the victim and victimizer were, respectively.

Nothing complex about her desire, but there is about his.

this is 100% hype. hate this movie. hate the score. hate the acting. hate the characterisations. hate the dialogue. hate the directing. literally the only thing worth witnessing was the wildlife shots of some insects, which were great and lasted all of 20 seconds total.

asking a male film director which are more insecure actresses or moms? how avant garde. now i hate jeremy o harris.

You sure watched a lot of the interview for someone who hates everything about this film including the filmmaker. Are you okay?
