Todd Marinovich interview by ABC Sports after a 1991 NFL Playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Note his final comments to Lynn Swan He was released by the Raiders in 1992. It's been all downhill since then.

Todd is my second cousin. He comes from a wonderful family, and I got to see him not too long ago. He looks healthy, does beautiful art work, and has a lovely wife and new baby boy! Todd you are doing great, and we love you! Your great uncles are watching over you!

I definitely remember him! Sports Illustrated did a story on him. I had a subscription back in those days. No wonder he got so messed up as an adult & his pro career didn't go so well. I hope he's doing better these days, never hear much about him now. He was a great looking guy back then. Hope he's well. God bless.

I remember reading about Tood Marinovich as a cover-story on Sports Illustrated back in 1991. Apparently his father had him on such a strict diet that TM didn't have his first Big Mac until he was in high school. In fact, Marinovich's father had Todd's mother take a strict vitamin supplement while she was pregnant with Todd in order to produce the perfect athlete. Unfortunate story.

Yeah, I remember reading that issue of SI. So sad that he didn't get to experience a regular, early childhood. That's damaging to someone's growth mentally. I hope he's doing well nowadays. 🙏💗🙏

I think Todd's problem is his Dad put him on a one-way trip to becoming the "perfect" quarterback without bothering to see if that's what his son really wanted to do.

You can see his pain in this simple interview, "I will never forget this game." Wishing Marinovich the best.

This performance was the beginning of the end for Marinovich and the end of the Raiders as we used to know them.

Cam Newton stole his look! But, seriously, very sad - especially when they/he mention about him being an NFL QB and how they got a lot to see yet. Drugs played a huge role in his demise... but playing football and intensive training day in and day out took it’s toll. Ironically, he doesn’t make the NFL if his father didn’t “mold” him, but it’s bc of all that work and not having a childhood that worked against his career.

Read Todd's story... If u can find the program he did watch it. You remind me of him, only his is famous. A talented human who fights emotions and can't face his feelings.

Partying hard was such a big part of the beach culture in SOCAL. Probably still is but when I lived out there in the early 90's, everyone was partying all the time. Think TM just got consumed with his buddies, beach sports and partying. he got his $3million and enjoyed himself for the next 20 years. Looks now like he's getting his act together now with a wife and a kid. By all accounts, a really nice guy. Wish him well...

Saw Todd's amazing story on ESPN, "The Todd Marinovich Project," Todd received his Art degree while at USC. Todd said he's happy and doing what he always wanted to do, his art. Todd said he did drugs to escape being who he didn't want to be, "The Football Star." Interestingly the policeman who busted Todd before he was jailed and went into rehab played with him on their high school football team. Further interesting, he met his wife in recovery, has a beautiful child and reconnected with his Dad through painting together.

@mrblujet I remember that article as well. I also saw a piece on ESPN around the same time Marinovich was going downhill real fast. Todd Marinovich's dad had a son who was about 8 or 9 and was pushing him like he did Todd. I felt sorry for that little kid. The only other thought I had was that the elder Marinovich was the most selfish bastard on the face of the planet. The father I mean.

Not his fault for his failures, great kid, but damn, we Raiders were doomed for a long time when we passed on Brett Favre (only QB to throw 500 TD passes and 70,000+ yards and who won a SB) in the draft for this troubled man.
@AllPro77713 жыл бұрын
@LizzyandHeidi Damn, he'd been on drugs all the way up to three years ago? Wow. That's a long time. Good to hear he's turning things around though.

the thing that always stuck out in his documentary is when he kinda got mad and was like "I didn't ask for any of this! " .. and he didn't! .. he was literally the Michael Jackson of football only he fell apart and didn't reach the artificial potential
@GUEROMEXICANO83112 жыл бұрын
He had a very odd childhood and then had the horrible luck of being drafted by the Raiders. That pretty much sealed it for him.

Todd's been tryin' to get clean, nowadays I hear. He's been painting his paintings have appeared on ebay. He's also helping at a drug rehab place to get clean and he is helping QBs at football camps. I just hear he's trying to clean up his act.

The Raiders couldve actually won that game - had some stupid self inflicted penalties in the 4 th quarter though --- As for Todd he had talent they just rushed him

I at least he got to play in the pros, I only got to the JuCo level, lol. : P
