Todd Sucherman Mountain Solo in 7/8 filmed for Drumeo

“Mountain Solo in 7/8.” This was filmed by Drumeo on the top of a mountain in British Columbia that we reached via two helicopters back in 2018. I can detect just a touch of panic in my playing as I was soaking wet and truly freezing. I had played two full songs up there already and if I could just play one drum solo bit, we would pack up and head to some warmth! If I didn’t nail something quickly, we would have all ended up like Jack Nicholson at the end of “The Shining.”

Todd's solos are the only drum solos that I listen to and I stay engaged with the whole way through. Lots of folks have chops, but I've never come across a better writer than Todd. Love it!!

I saw STYX on the RETURN TO PARADISE tour in ‘96…….they had this drummer who basically nobody had ever heard of. The came out and within a couple minutes we were like “where did they get this guy, he’s got serious chops….” I knew RIGHT THEN that a new guy was ON THE SCENE!!!

One cool part that may be a bit overlooked is that (if I am not mistaken…and please be kind if I am) It appears that our hero here is using a Pearl Decade kit for this adventure as well as off-the-shelf hardware and cymbals, rather than ultra high-end endorser only gear. And everything sounds superb!

Todd is without a doubt THE best in class. I enjoy these solos but ....yes but....I like it more when he breaks down what he is doing and shows the patterns and sticking. He did this on Drumeo where he used flams and flam taps etc... it was phenomenal. More of that please! ....and thank you sir. BTW...Love the copter in the background.
