Well after about 56yrs, I've made up my mind on who the best drummer in the world is. Todd Sucherman (Styx)...in my mind is THE one. In a Genre where superstars and gods are made from their solos, I have NEVER for a second thought how great it would be to see a solo from him...it's just not needed and not sure how a solo could be any more impressive than what he does throughout the songs....the man is wicked..a beast....brilliant interpretation and feel....and I really like a lot of great drummers. So after 56yrs of living, breathing and dreamin' music...this piece of the puzzle is complete for me. hehe. Cheers to all that love a great drummer....oh and the rest too.

I sure hope the guys in Styx realize that they have one of the best drummers in the world right now! Todd has so much talent oozing from his body, he leaves a pool of it on the drum riser when he's done. Drummers: I'm taking Todd's Rock Drumming Masterclass on Drumeo currently and if you don't know about this guy, watch every video and read everything anyone says about him, because he is truly a drumming force and an incredible, I mean INCREDIBLE drum teacher. If he has a Drum clinic or Masterclass in your city - go see him, you won't regret it. Just got my tickets to see Styx at Wente Vineyards in Livermore, CA on July 30th and I CAN'T WAIT!

What an absolute badass.....like all drummers, I’ve had my favorite players through various stages of my life- for me (and millions of others) a few of them have been names such as Peart, Bonham, Colaiuta, Smith, Phillips, Copeland, Rich, and so many more...but I’ll tell ya- Todd is RIGHT UP THERE with the best players I’ve ever heard or seen. He’s phenomenal- and what’s even cooler is that he’s obviously a NICE GUY. Freaking hero.

Put him next to Simon Phillips or Dave Weckl and you will see why he is not in the top 10 of the world. I have seen Styx, a month before this show as a matter of fact, three times with Todd including the first year, and many times with John Panozzo since 1977. They are very good, and I love them, but when you look beyond all the Rock hype, you will find guys that are able to transcend time and space that defies logic. The three times I have seen them with Todd never moved me like the greatest shows have. Neal Peart said it many times over the years, I heard him say it the first time in the 80s when I was too young to understand, that he does not hold a candle to the top jazz drummers in the world. Todd is a fantastic guy and drummer extraordinaire, but not in the top ten from what I saw in person.

@@2kosher true but even some of the above don't, Neal traveled all of Africa in search of it and he himself said those jazz greats were better, and now I have seen it over the years many times . Neal was good, but Peter Erskine with Steely Dan, or Vinnie Calliuta with Sting, Chester Thompson, they go there more consistent. John Bonham had it more than the others but he was nowhere near as technically able as someone like Simon Phillip's. Anyway my main reason for this was I saw Styx 3 times since 95 with Todd, and there was never that river flowing through the Grand canyon that I am going for

As an amateur guitar player, what I really enjoy is the cymbal work. Why? It's not splashy, ringy...the crash cymbals decay in time. And the drums are perfectly tuned especially the snare...The entire kit is a complete instrument, not just a 'collection' of drums. Well Done.

Great drummer, Love all his work but...... The Todd Sucherman sticks were recently changed by Promark ! The butt end is no longer rounded and the weight is considerably lighter! I even tried buying from Amazon and musicians friend thinking they were fakes...Nope! The older version feels and plays way better. I hope Todd knows about this as I can sense he cares about his playing and his products with his name on it!

I have seen no change to my sticks in the least, and I just got a new shipment at the house last week. Send two examples to your dealer or to PM directly. I have sensed no change and I can tell if one stick is a gram heavier than another-- I am that sensitive!

I agree Johny. I LOVE Neil Peart's playing, don't get me wrong. He was iconic and someone all of us drummers aspired to play like and a HUGE influence. But Todd is just plain a better drummer overall. Todd can play ANYTHING. Jazz, Reggae, Rock, Fusion, Latin, you name it. And he plays it with precision AND pocket. He is hugely under appreciated as a master drummer and musician.

Todd's ability to navigate odd times and complex parts while maintaining such a deep pocket is uncanny. Vinnie Colaiuta has that quality too. Definitely my kind of "prog" drummer.
