There have been various guys (this one, Peter Morgan and others) who are outraged that a much younger woman who openly only wanted them for money, does not actually love them, are totally unsupportive of them and seek romantic fulfilment elsewhere. Their ego can't stand it and they snap. If you marry someone much younger,, much poorer, much better looking, with whom you have nothing in common why expect to be more than a sugar daddy? She will not love you, fancy you whatever you do. She justs wants your money, not you.

True. However, in another video about 'good love gone bad,' I remarked that Romantic love is dangerous. We see how this may especially apply to women. From my experience, women are elevated to too great a level. They seem to become unattainable, angel-like, causing the emotions of men to run too high. This extreme reaction in men that women then help to cause is exciting and embraced by women; yet, the price that the women must pay, should things turn sour, is extravagant and too much. By allowing and even insisting on men investing everything in them, bad things can and do happen if the woman does not meet some expectation in a man's eye (perhaps higher than she could imagine or even be capable of over time). And judging by the jury's response and the judge, in this case, it's almost as if, to them, in the end, the woman gets exactly what she deserves. All for the love of Jonathan. On the other hand, Jonathan spends hardly any time in prison for what could be considered premeditated murder. Score? Men 1, women 0, in the game of love.

Michelle was a special type of person. Leaving her would mean nothing because she almost certainly started the relationship with no intention of it being permanent. You have to assume this is the type of person you are meeting when you have to travel to foreign country to get a spouse two decades your junior. (Decent people, of course, are incapable of that type of pretense for any price.) What he should’ve done is divorce her in 1991 after he had had a year to meditate on the obvious. This would’ve likely elicited violence from *her.* it was, after all, the most likely motive for Lorena Bobbitt mutilating her husband.

I think you are correct about the jury's sympathy with the killer. I wonder if the backstory of their meeting was presented in court, and if the notion that she was a "mail order bride" so to speak, came to play in the trial. He lied about his age to get a young wife. He pursued a woman in a country known for traditional values, and one where the wife was subservient. No one corresponds for a year and develops a relationship to get a green card. She was looking for an American husband. And by the way, as a Navy sailor, and then as an officer on merchant ships, I have been to the Philippines many times. The appeal of marrying an American is very high in that country. Americans are perceived to be wealthy, and the wives of Americans tend to have more freedom and opportunity. I've known many couples married between the two countries, and most are long lasting. Many never even move the US. This woman didn't use him to get a green card. She had children with him, and seemed intent on staying together despite the lack of love. And economic power over someone does not give you ownership. His killing of her sounds like he viewed her as a possession that he was losing control over.

Meanwhile, a black woman was sentenced to 5 years for voting after being in jail for a nonviolent crime. All she did was misunderstand the law about voting. This guy murders his wife and gets 8 years and is out in 5. That’s our (in)justice system at work. I think murder done in the “passion” of the moment should get more penalty than that. It wasn’t self defense either. I definitely believe race is a factor in how these criminals are viewed and considered. It’s unfortunate that the judge and jury seemed to view the affair as a mitigating factor as well. Interesting analysis, Dr. Grande.

I'm pretty sure that juries and judges view a woman who has an affair as much worse than a man who does the same thing. It's the old double standard. If a man has an affair it's because the wife "wasn't meeting his needs", "got fat", or he "was tempted" (by another nasty woman, of course!). But if the woman cheats she is a hussy, unfit mother, sexual vixen and the man is a cuckold innocent who supported her and was just doing his best. We see this very often in life and it can't be denied.

It's not unfortunate when you think about it; it's a fact. No one cares to believe that the more money (or real estate, for example) has, the more justice they can receive. Our society is based on placing value on property, or real estate, to be precise. To own the land is also to own that which walks upon it. Let us not forget that those made slaves from Africa were considered property that created the vast amount of wealth, establishing the "Republic," qua Democracy in the first place. Have you ever considered the connection to blacks being slaves and the great number of them disproportionate in number to their time in the country than any other group, being in some form of shackles or another working for hardly little or any pay? You could even consider that a vast number of Americans are not free. They only think that they are, relative to, let us say, black people. Freedom, at the very least, means having enough assets to defend rights. Otherwise, you are having a lucky day. No one has falsely accused you of murder because you "fit the profile." Funny, isn't it? Once I was a murder suspect because some good got himself killed next door to me. I spoke to the police without a lawyer. How stupid was I? To this day, the newspaper refused to even speak to me about the subject. I just can't get it out of my mind how easy it is to lose your life.

Yes, cheating is wrong however, they're BOTH liars. Nyce not only lied about his age but kept lying year after year about it... if he lied about that what else could he be lying about? He robbed her of making an informed decision 10 years is pretty substantial. Who's to say she cheated because she felt betrayed first?

you're making a lot of assumptions there. I think it's less about control and more about the infidelity

@@Herminipper For some reason he went after a 20 years old younger woman and lied about his own age. He also went to a third world country where there's a lot of poverty to pick up a young woman of a family of 7. You don't know how many older men do this, go pick younger poor wives to these eastern asian countries to they can have a submissive woman at home. there's already something odd going on with this behavior and it was also mentioned thr guy had problems with drinks.
