Thanks so much for talking about Delilah's sleep. I remember how much you struggled when she was a baby so it's great you found something that worked for you :-) I would say that boobing to sleep is not something to be ashamed of and is completely natural & what we're designed to do, but you are right that if they can fall asleep on their own in bed they will sleep better! I'd highly recommend "The Beyond Sleep Training Project" Facebook group for anyone looking for gentle techniques to help babies fall asleep without leaving them to cry - hope you don't mind me sharing this (not judging, just sharing an alternative so parents can do their own research and make their own choice). Every baby is different and parents know what's best for their individual child, trust your instincts ☺️❤️

Thank you for sharing your parenting tips Rhiannon, you really are a fountain of knowledge! I'd love to hear more about your experiences and would happily watch dedicated videos on parenting topics if you had the time! I love a good clothes or cleaning haul (who doesn't) but vids on raising a healthy, happy child (whilst also doing your bit to save the planet) are my faves. Love to your little family! x

Love the sleep expert chat - I felt you told my story exactly. My daughter was the same, she would only fall asleep if I breastfed her and would wake every hour or two at night, we also got so desperate that we decided to try controlled crying and it transformed our nights and my daughter was so much happier because she wasn’t exhausted all the time. I was really badly judged for it, a local breastfeeding Facebook group said that I was harming my child but like you said, unless someone has been in your shoes then they really cannot judge. Thank you for sharing! 🙂

We had a very similar experience with my now 2 year old I fundamentally believe teaching them to fall asleep on their own is the best gift to them and to you. To know they’re ok they’re safe to and they can do it means they get essential rest and an important life skill!

I don’t even have children, and I found it interesting. Have lots of Nieces, Nephews, godchildren and have seen the sleep struggles over the years. Everything you discussed made sense and it’s clear to see how much you love Delilah and just wanted her to get the sleep she needed, and you as parents to be at your best.

All i’ve been thinking about today is how my big my son has gotten (about the same age as Delilah) and how I missed him as a baby. But this video made me think back to all those sleepless nights, crying while breastfreeding at 3am because I was so sleepdeprived. I’m really happy with my sleeping toddler right now

My son struggled with severe reflux until 13 months old, although at 10 months it started to subside a bit. But during those 10 months, I slept upright with him on me. Every night, every nap. And I was usually up for 30+ hours in between. Then sleep for a maximum of 4 hours and then up for 30+ again. I actually have no idea how I survived that for so many months :P Personally, I'm not a fan of sleep training, but to each their own :) My husband and I follow Attachment Parenting with our son...and I'm sure that's not everyone's cup of tea either ;) So we still cosleep and such. I think I'll be very sad when our son decides he wants to sleep on his own in his room ;)

I took about ten months to recognise the difference between Charlotte's cries 😳 as soon as I got pregnant again, I made it my mission to learn about the science of baby sleep. Now my second is three months and is either sleeping through or waking up once or twice a night 🙌 unless he's ill of course haha. Such a huge difference. We're breastfeeding and putting him down awake, its incredible. We had to rock Charlotte for about an hour before she'd fall asleep some nights, it was awful. Only changed when we sleep trained at ten months. So glad it worked well for you, we used the same method. She's a lot happier and well rested for it, so it's not done any harm.

Oh my word I so agree about routine. My twins were in a strict routine and I was so anal about it when they were little. Family members used to think I was OTT but now my girls sleep so well even out of routine and other friends/ family kids do no! Also I read about sleep cycles and sometimes babies cry in between sleep cycles so it's good to "pause" for a minute or two and.see if they settle themselves back off

I'll never judge you for what you did because i've lived the sleep deprived situation and it's so SO hard. It lasted 2 years here... The first month, it was 4 hours stretches and the more he grew the more he woke up. By the time he was six months old, he was waking up anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour TOPS. I can't tell you the state i was in... No matter how desperate i was, i couldn't let him cry, it was just too much, even if i just couldn't come in the minute, he could be already so flustered that he had trouble breathing. So I started researching gentle sleeping training methods and i read the "no cry sleep solution" by Elizabeth Pantley and it didn't work as expected but still made things a bit easier. I also began to dive deep in anything that would prevent babies from going from cycles to cycles and learned that it's really natural, especially when breastfeeding like you explained, but also because they need a lot of reassurance. I also learned about Kiss Syndrom, so i encourage anyone going through this to start by reading about this syndrome because it's REALLY common but not well known, and it changed everything here. I started the appointments (just 3) when he was 11 months old and it was over at 14 months and he started to sleep for 4h stretches again the very night after the last appointment. My son's birth was less than ideal and we got seperated for 24h, i've always been certain that it was the problem, that he needed to know that i would never go away again... Around 22 months old, he started to sleep through one night, then another, just from time to time. And just after 2 years old, BOOM he slept through completely, he can even sleep until 10 a.m some mornings!!! I just want to say to anyone that it's really hard, but you're not alone and you can do it. Congratulations Rhiannon for finding the solution that worked for YOUR family

Just now watching this vlog. Went through the sleep deprived phase for basically 2 years. Not working fine I was still a mess but my god at 5 and half months i went back to work part time but at 10 months i went full time at work and I just dragged myself around for the next year and only now does she sleep in her bed and Im lucky if she sleeps throught the night. My daughter also didnt want a dummy or bottle either! Helpful to see this video...i honestly felt so low that i thought there was no light at the end of the tunnel but for every momma that needs to hear this. Something will give and it will get better. Lots of love

Your right every child is different, we tried letting my son cry. But it did not work. He would get so upset that he would throw up. So I sat in the room with him until he fell asleep. Then at 8 months he started sleeping with mom.Can't say why....cause people would never understand. Let's just say there was something in our home and leave it there. So glad it worked for you. As I have said before you are a natural mommy. And your little one is so charming.

Thank you for talking about this subject really! My son is a month old now and usually wakes up once or twice during the night for feeding but I'm terrifyed he will have troubles once he gets older and when we will put him in his own room (maybe because as a baby I never slept myself) did delilah wake up every hour or so even when she was sleeping in your room? Or did she get worse when you moved her to her own room? Like, is it too early to build a routine now? xx
@pennyeliza
@pennyeliza 6 жыл бұрын
It's not too early to have a routine and work in some sleep cues but will be too early to have a schedule. I think most professionals advise 6 months before sleep training. But if you want to introduce some gentle positive sleep associations I'd recommend joining "The Beyond Sleep Training Project" group on Facebook. They're super helpful :)

Never really sleep trained, but our daughter slept better alone from 3months on, in her crib, in her room. I was sad to not have her close, but she just would not sleep with us. Don't think you can compare your baby to another, they are all different and unpredictable. You might not have any issues!

My child slept no longer than 2, sometimes 3 hours until she was a year old. But we co-sleep, so I just had to kind of wake up and let her latch on to my breast and we would both be back to sleep without even waking up properly. I would recommend co-sleeping to everybody as this was the reason why I was not tired although I woke uo several times a night.

I actually feel the same about attending a gym class. But after the class is over I feel proud of myself for even going on my own. I think the more you put yourself in a situation like this, the more confident you feel and get used to the routines. Well, at least in my head this mantra makes sense. Now a random question, do you think it would be worth it to invest in more expensive gym pants? Mostly I buy mine at h&m and never anything more expensive. But they are not always that comfy...

Ohhh Rhiannon I am crying while listening to your sleep training story. I have an adorable 1 year old girl and she’s got really really big problems sleeping. It’s one year I haven’t had a full night sleep so I am getting desperate at this point and just last night she woke up every 30 minutes . I so get your story it’s just that I haven’t been successful finding a sleep consultant here in Spain. I’ve tried to do the sleep training by my self reading a lot about baby’s sleep but hast worked so far. I’ll be giving her time antill she’s 18 month praying she gets better I am a working mum as well so have to be productive and in a good mood at work as well . Hope one day my little girl will fall asleep without rocking her to sleep. Love your videos Linda and littorio Mara

We still have our ups and downs but I wouldn’t change a thing! I got a few little tips in there from you so thank you I will give a couple of them a go for when we are having nights where we are struggling! Sleep training is what we ended up doing with our daughter after 7 months whose 16 months old now, it was the only thing that worked. My mum still judges us for doing it but my sister's son is almost 1 and still sleeps in my sister's bed because he can't self soothe and he wakes every couple of hours to make sure my sister is still there. It was horribly hard to sleep train our daughter but now she sleeps mostly through unless she's teething and we're pregnant again so couldn't do what my sister is doing. It's hard when people judge you but it's so important that they settle themselves x

My sons almost 6. He wasn’t breastfed however he’s never slept. He’s now been referred for an autism and adhd assessment. We’ve tried sleep specialist / therapists. He obviously thrives off routines so that’s always been there. Unfortunately nothing has worked for him and he’s now medicated with a hormone to help him sleep. my little girl who’s turning 3 on New Year’s Eve doesn’t sleep great. Never has. Not as bad as my son however still a nightmare. Again nothing has worked we went with the same therapist again nothing has worked I don’t think she’s got adhd and I’m certain there’s no autism however she’s just difficult 😂

I have a lot of prejudice against sleep training. In my country is totally discouraged and the nurses, pediatricians and everyone will tell you to rush when they cry because it's a sign of suffering and distress. I have coslept with my daughter since day one and at 15 months she wakes up for a feed twice or three times, sometimes more. Cosleeping is the new thing here and we've never used a cot. Cosleeping helped us survive the first months because if not I would have been just like you, tired and miserable... but now it's become a problem. I guess what I want to say is that transitioning a child to be on her own is hard at any age and it has to be done. Some people do it earlier and others later, and no parent would let a child cry in distress for no reason, wether they are sleep training or not. Both extremes are stupid, and I wish somebody had told me about different cries because I've arrived to that conclusion on my own far too late. You do you and if sleep training worked, which it clearly did, don't listen to other people!

Cosleeping and babywearing solved all sleep problems for us even with a "high maintenance" baby. I don't think letting your child cry is ever a good idea because they just learn no one is coming. Motherhood is hard and the first few years your shedule is pretty much ruled by your kids but to me that is just what comes with having kids. I can See why parents want to get their child to finally sleep and are desperate for something that works. But there is a far easier way than "sleep training" in my opinion.
@RhiannonAshleeVlogs
@RhiannonAshleeVlogs 6 жыл бұрын
That’s fine, everyone has their own opinion. Although this is why I felt the need to justify myself as I knew one person would say ‘it just comes with being a parents. Like I said, D was the extreme, waking up in the night (like we sometimes do now), is fine but waking every hour.. that’s not normal nor sustainable or healthy for either of us. For me personally, I couldn’t cosleep, mainly because there’s not enough room in our bed/I wouldn’t be able to ret properly and two, even when I did bring Delilah into bed in the mornings once Doug left for work, she’s still never settled.. wouldn’t even now. Babywearing.. I tried. I really wanted to babywear but after trying LOADS of slings, wraps and goodness knows what else, I just didn’t like it. She was too heavy and Delilah would cry all the time still. I’m glad it worked for you but It doesn’t for everyone x

You don't have to sleep train if it doesn't feel right for you, they will learn to sleep better naturally over time. My daughter is 17 months and only wakes once a night now to breastfeed and I've never left her to cry. Don't feel pressured into doing anything you're not comfortable with. If you'd like to look into gentle tips to help your baby's sleep you could look at the Gentle Sleep book by Sarah Okwell-Smith or The Beyond Sleep Training Project Facebook group. I know it's difficult but your baby waking every two hours is completely normal. Their tummies are tiny so they feed regularly and it protects them against sids. Just do what feels right for you and your family ❤️

I have just started sleep training my 6 month old. I tried doing controlled crying but found checking on her made her worse so I know do something called the extinction method which is basically letting her cry it out and not go in until she was meant to wake up. I have to say she gave up night feeds a while ago and my issue was her naps and settling to sleep. Before doing this she would take 3 hours at night to go down. Now she falls asleep within 10 minutes. As a result she is a much happier baby as she is no longer overtired. It was a scary thought as I was terrified she would scream for hours but it really wasn't that bad and I'd recommend to anyone. Same as Rhiannon though I personally wouldn't do it before 6 months.

I wish it was there when my son was born,he is now 35 and is sleeping very well:) He didn't slept for 9 months,he slept during the day,like 3 hours??? I could have killed him,he screamed bloody murder,and we were living in a flat,and all the other people were waking up? I wish I knew then what I know now. He has 3 sons now all perfect sleepers ofcourse:)

loved hearing about your experience with sleep training! How do you feel about the transition into a big girl bed? Do you think things will change? xx
